Saints Vs Stoke Reaction

Telling that no-one took up my bet that we wouldn't finish as high, or with as many points as the last couple of seasons.

Meh, never mind. No danger of relegation I guess.

Well the last 2 seasons have been our record breaking total seasons and we have sold a large part of the team that got us there so it is telling you are a risk averse fool

Very poor.

The absolute worst of Shane Long, not tracking back and diving all the time. Both fullbacks never got going at all. Midfield non existent after Claise went off

Stoke were good on the break though.

Special mention for Mason though. Never gave us any free kicks, booked JWP for his first tackle, and the Pelle penalty was unbelievable.

Had a feeling that today would be a frustrating game and unfortunately it was extremely frustrating! 2 clear penalties not given but we played poorly. In particular, I thought that Fonte was unusually shaky, Cedric didn't have a good game and Tadic was doing my head in at times - too selfish and kept hitting the first man (or Butland) with his crosses and set-pieces. All in all, grrr!

Clasie the only player we've got who doesn't need 20 minutes and a lie down before deciding whether to run with the ball or pass it. At the moment it feels like the coaching staff have been replaced by a tape recording of a red-faced Sunday league manager yelling 'get it wide!'...

Long was abject, Fonte's passing was awful, Davis was back to his toiling, tedious self... Such a depressing game to watch, no movement, no zip in the passing, no vision.

Look at me, look at me, look at me!!!

If people had politely disagreed with me, rather than berated me for questioning the God-like nature of our team I might have been slightly more forgiving. As it is I'm not in the ****ing mood.

Like I say, put your money on the table or shut the **** up.

As I said in the build-up. We lost and we, especially Tadic, don't play well in the wind and the cold.

Very lethargic. Their goal was good, but the cross should have been closed down. After that, too many attempts at lazy clever touches, not enough running and commitment.

Dreadful allround.

A few observations:

1. We are the easiest team to counter attack as fullbacks play high and midfield is quite immobile and doesn't flood back quickly. Makes you realise how much ground Schneiderlin covered.

2. Subs were odd I thought. Clasie was playing well and looking sharp. Mane obviously needed to come on, but should have been for Long so we kept our shape.

Just because you need a goal, bringing loads of attackers on doesn't do much if there is no space for them to play in. Mane barely got on the ball in dangerous areas because Long/Pelle were already there.

The JWP sub made sense for set plays but not in the sense we were setting up to be countered and he has no pace/ball winning ability.

3. The crowd were as poor as the team. Truely awful atmosphere which definitely makes a difference to the players.

4. Whenever we start Long out wide we never seem to play overly well. His technique is dreadful, and he has no clue how to combine with the fullback which meant Cedric did none of the underlaps he has used to good effect when partnered with Tadic or Mane who have more awareness.

If he plays, it has to be as a striker because his touch isn't up to it out wide. IMO he was a panic buy last summer and doesnt fit our style, but thats another topic.

5. Pelle should be fined for his costly booking. I bet if someone looks at all 5 at least 3 are stupid and petty. If he was getting booked for clobbering centre backs then fair enough, but they are mostly soft.

6. Only slight positive was some delightful Clasie passing first half, he is improving game by game but IMO should now be trusted to play 90mins.

Classes the only player to come out with any credit.

Our passing was poor, set pieces were poor, full-backs were poor. Worst performance by Long in a Saints shirt, and why Tadic has to take an extra touch all the time is beyond me.

Bloody international breaks are a pain in the arse. Pelle looked like he wanted a yellow at the end, a deliberate handball and then kicking the ball away.

Heading home, poor all round. Mason is a terrible ref but our didn't put him under enough pressure. If he hadn't have given the first one and Stoke were at home, he'd have been intimidated by their fans into giving the second one. Saints fans aren't savvy enough in that department.

Silly booking from Pelle but felt sorry for him, dreadful service. Long needs to go in Jan, loan out Juanmi and Martina and use the money to bring a decent partner Pelle can work with. Clasie the only player trying to get his head up and make something happen. Brief flickers from Mane when came out but Stoke's midfield tracked back well.

Got beaten by the better, more organised side, hopefully Saints take the learning from it.

Agree that Long was poor, but he was played out of position.

Quality of the passing was poor it was a lazy pass by Tadic that started the build up to Stokes goal , the crossing into the box was pretty poor as well. Overall it was a frustrating afternoon and if we were out there till midnight I don't think we would have scored.

He was bought to be back up to Pelle and flexible to play out wide. Which is great apart from he is ****e out wide.

Waste of money on a player with an average past, no improvement potential, no resale potential, sizeable wages and who doesn't suit our systems/style.

Why? Because *you* say so?! We are all entitled to an opinion. You have yours, I have mine. And I have no intention of acceding to an ultimatum from you or anybody else just because you think you know what will happen in 6 months time. I'll keep enjoying the season and you can wallow in the misery of apparently knowing we are going to do worse at the end of this season than last season. Have fun.
