Ian Holloway just said we tried to sign him for £5million when Holloway managed him. He said he wished, for Phillips I think, they had let him go but the chairman wasn't interested in selling.

Not sure if a concrete bid has been reported before.

This is 100% true. I shared some info via PM with a couple of posters about this at the time. It was towards the end of the transfer window the year we came up to the premier league. Phillips was desperate to join us, he'd told his family and friends he was coming and everything was agreed. The Blackpool chairman was an absolute **** about it though and refused to sell to us. We'd made them a decent offer and offered him a lot more than the £7k a week he was on at Blackpool at the time but it all fell through thanks to their chairman.

Careful Turkish I think Karl Oyston has sued Blackpool fans for less than that.....

weren't we linked with him this summer, or was that just the papers linking everyone with everyone in the hope of something actually coming true?

We were, and probably the previous 3 or 4 summers before it.

A bit like Nathan Redmond.

I haven't seen Matt Phillips play as often as many of you...but he seemed a bit " in-and-out " in those games I've watched him.

Certainly he was MoM in a couple, but looked completely out of it in others. Don't know opinion of others who've seen him regularly?.
