Itchen North letter.

Surely the fact a smoke bomb was able to be thrown onto the pitch at the Bournemouth game suggests the club's search and security procedures need improving as well as sending a written lecture to fans, most of whom won't have been involved.

I'd like to know what incitement to commit disorder means as well. That sounds worryingly vague. Are we talking about ****** signs aimed in the direction of the opposition?

Just received a letter from the club about disorder in the Itchen North. Has anyone else received something similar?

Typical over-the-top reaction from the club. Apart from the smoke bomb at the Bournemouth game, the only problems I can think of have been as a result of Corporate boxes full of celebrating away fans, which the club seem happy enough to sell tickets to in the home sections.

No blocks are going to be closed at St Marys, ridiculous suggestion.

I assume it's intentionally vague under a fairly catch-all banner of (in their opinion) "being a ****".

There are a couple of things the club needs to do themselves, in addition to fans helping them out - firstly, they need to stop allowing away fans in the corporate boxes at the Northam end of the Itchen stand, as this is only likely to exacerbate any tension in that part of the ground; secondly, as mentioned above, while people shouldn't be bringing banned items into the ground, the club employs staff to prevent people doing so, and they're clearly failing.

After Paris, security in stadiums have a new dimension, and it has to start with fan responsibility. Expect the club to take flares lit in the crowd seriously. And I hope they do.

Received same letter despite only going to 4 games so far this season, so it's not just ST holders getting them. My guess is "Outraged of The Northam" has contacted the club complaining that no matter how hard they try the away fans still ignore them, with blocks 1 to 4 receiving all of the visitors "friendly banter".

They tend to send one of these out to different parts of the ground from time to time. I remember getting one when we were at the Dell for god sake. Empty threats.

was that the one for Junior Saints after things were thrown at Beckham at the Man United home game in the lower East? and in the following game there was a police camera directed at the Junior Saints blocks from the corner of the Milton where the programme sellers used to stand:mcinnes:

These sort of notices make me laugh, they can use it to produce to the FA that they have addressed any issues that have been raised by them and that was probably required to avoid a fine.

The smoke bomb from block 4 is a funny one, the whole of block 4 is sat down and quite sedate so i'd have thought it would be easy for them to spot that if it did come from there.

Those of you who hope they catch people with them really should go to some games on the continent to see how widely used they are there, not that i am a fan of them myself particularly but anything that helps get the atmosphere going in the sterile world of Premier League football 2015 is a positive.

Sure was! Apparently a load of 10-15 year olds were abusing the players and linesman! Still makes me laugh to this day.

Thing is,I go in Block 1/2 regularly, and it takes an age to get through the turnstiles as it is, and a large proportion of people in these blocks usually miss kick-off as it is.

This is undeniably partly due to a lot of people leaving the pubs too late (guilty as charged myself on this), but also the scanning system regularly doesn't recognise the tickets / membership cards.

I guess that increased searches were inevitable anyway after Paris, but people are going to have to start getting to the ground at 2.30pm to guarantee seeing kick-off, what with the problems with the scanners.

I suspect it's more a case of the users of the scanners being simpletons rather than the scanners themselves being faulty - literally the only problems I've ever seen getting into the Northam is people who have print-at-home tickets who haven't folded their bit of paper so the barcode fits in the slot. Nobody else seems to have any problem at all.

Yep, just checked the post and received it. What a load of ****, they can put a stop to 90% of the incidents that have happened in blocks 1-3 this season simply by not selling boxes to absolute weapons that are there to support United/ Liverpool etc.

Wasn't at the Bournemouth game but find it quite funny that pyro was launched from block 4 when most of that block (certainly at the back) is given to weirdo club employees/ contacts that sit on their hands the entire game. Only other incident of note I've seen was a random fight between some matey and his brother in law with the doris in between giving digs to both sides. Good little roll around that. All 3 back next game good as gold.

Yep got the letter. Just sounds like backside covering to me. Important part of the ground as away fans can't hear the Northam and Kingsland North. So the main impression they get of our vocal support is from us. It needs a bit of needle in there.

I love standing in the Itchen Corner. On a good day against a half-decent set of away fans, it's absolutely brilliant in there, we could do with just a few more singers in there though.

Need to cut out the constant singing of unfunny 'banter' songs at the away fans and start singing more Saints stuff. On its day it's very good in there though.

No problem with the club selling corporate tickets to away fans but it should be made clear that they are in s home area of the ground (like every other club does) and therefore they should be respectful of that and will be escorted out the ground if they are not. End of

Well if the Man U game is anything to go by I don't think that will happen

Mmmm:rolleyes:.....next stop " body searches " ......ala Heathrow style? Come early in future .....

Quite a difference between "the one idiot who threw the flare" and the Continental tradition where fireworks, flares and smoke bombs are part of " the football culture".

More commonplace in Southern Europe perhaps, but in Stockholm - where there are three "top-tier clubs", their derby games are often marred by pyrotechnic displays, One match last season was held up by the ref. after smoke obscured the pitch like a fog.....and it seemed strange it's allowed in the Swedish "safety-first" society.

You what? Don't think so somehow.

Only sat there once - Chelsea in the league cup a few seasons back - and it was absolutely dreadful. Maybe a poor game to judge as it wouldn't have had the usual lot in there. Might consider moving for a game this season to try it out.

Tbf on cup games it is awful. It used to be a lot better a few seasons back but then they closed the blocks near to the away fans and they lost all the regulars who sat there and the atmosphere has never recovered. I remember a season in the championship when we sang oh when the saints for the entirety of the second half.

What a load of garbage. Block 4 used to be excellent after the corner was closed. Many of the regulars there then migrated to Blocks 1-3 after they reopened. Quite a few look back to block 4 with nostalgia.

Well it's not garbage. I've sat there every season when I've been allowed to and it's never hit the heights of our seasons in the championship. Your experience may well be different but I can't see how you can call my opinion utter garbage unless you are sat next to me?

As have I - and while I remember some good atmospheres in the (pre-lowe) championship (Bristol City under Pearson sticks out in particular), Block 4 became very good, especially after we were relegated. The top half of block 4 was consistently excellent. Did you sit in Block 4 after 1-3 were closed?

If, as mentioned above, the club lets corporate boxes to away fans, why not move the away fans round into the Itchen North and let the home support take over more of the Northam ?

At many grounds we, as away fans, are put into corners of the ground (Spurs / Arsenal) or way up in the sky ( Newcastle)

If I was sent a similar letter and I was completely innocent of any untoward activity, then I would respond with a very strongly worded letter to the Chairman protesting that such a letter without any evidence is tantamount to defamation of character and demand a written apology.

The letter does not imply guilt of all or any of those in receipt. It is actually asking in paragraph 5 for help from anyone in the Itchen North to let Saints know of any untoward behaviour or to provide information. Nothing more, nothing less.

I just threw it in the bin so I didn't have to worry about it.
