I'm sure you're right, along with the Major in Fawlty Towers. Surely the point of such characters is to be able to bring their attitudes into the open and demonstrate how out of date they are?

 

Warren was a great character actor who made his parts his own.

Sadly the people and attitudes that the show targeted often missed the point. Excellent actor. RIP "Alf."
