Danbert Posted 11 November, 2015 Posted 11 November, 2015 http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2015/nov/11/premier-league-team-season-so-far Both Pelle and Van Diyk are in there
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 11 November, 2015 Posted 11 November, 2015 Glad to see Pelle getting his plaudits - the guy is an excellent striker.
buctootim Posted 11 November, 2015 Posted 11 November, 2015 (edited) Interesting that half the team spent years being relatively unsuccessful, playing for fairly lowly clubs before hitting the heights later in their careers. Edited 11 November, 2015 by buctootim
DuncanRG Posted 11 November, 2015 Posted 11 November, 2015 Can't argue with that team, though I'd maybe swap Butland in for De Gea.
The9 Posted 11 November, 2015 Posted 11 November, 2015 Good to see the old 4-4-2 being used for the team so they can ram in a load more attacking players than any team uses any more because it's easier to be lazy picking strikers.
Faz Posted 11 November, 2015 Posted 11 November, 2015 Can't argue with that team, though I'd maybe swap Butland in for De Gea. Take care not to confuse a busy keeper with a good keeper. Although, in fact, both are kept pretty busy by poor defenders.
The9 Posted 11 November, 2015 Posted 11 November, 2015 Monreal at left back seems to be a bit of a reach, doesn't it? Then again Cresswell had one of the worst games I've ever seen from a professional footballer against Bournemouth, so that undoes his claim. Shaw's injured, Man City leaked 4 to Spurs, Liverpool's left back is risible, Bertrand has been injured until recently, Davies at Spurs hasn't pulled up any trees and nor has Rose, I can sort of see why Monreal's got the nod now.
DuncanRG Posted 11 November, 2015 Posted 11 November, 2015 Take care not to confuse a busy keeper with a good keeper. Although, in fact, both are kept pretty busy by poor defenders. United have the best defensive record in the league, and Stoke have conceded fewer goals than us. You're either wrong that the defenders are poor (in Utd's case) or wrong that a busy keeper who stops goals going in isn't playing well (in Butland's).

I'm still putting United's defensive improvement down to Schneiderlin's general awesomeness.
a1ex2001 Posted 11 November, 2015 Posted 11 November, 2015 interesting to note the positive comment about Steven Davis as well as the article says a much underrated player I'm still surprised we managed to snap him up from Rangers without any real competition.
Maggie May Posted 11 November, 2015 Posted 11 November, 2015 Can't argue with that team - well written, too. I notice the Mirror did theirs today but split it into each football reporter. Not one chose a Saints player. Fair enough but seems strange how they've seemingly overlooked a team who has looked on par with the top four since September.
Batman Posted 11 November, 2015 Posted 11 November, 2015 Take care not to confuse a busy keeper with a good keeper. Although, in fact, both are kept pretty busy by poor defenders. butland has been excellent. our defensive record is not as good as it was/could be/should be Lukaku would have been in with a shout for this side.
Dark Munster Posted 12 November, 2015 Posted 12 November, 2015 I'm still putting United's defensive improvement down to Schneiderlin's general awesomeness. Their defense was also pretty good last season (not as good as ours, of course). Agreed though about Morgan's awesomeness.
whelk Posted 12 November, 2015 Posted 12 November, 2015 'Widely underrated Steve Davis' Paul Doyle is always complimentary about Saints and watches us play plenty. Spurs fans must be fuming on their forum although Toby did get mentioned
whelk Posted 12 November, 2015 Posted 12 November, 2015 butland has been excellent. our defensive record is not as good as it was/could be/should be Lukaku would have been in with a shout for this side. Everton fans I know get hugely frustrated with Lukaku. Plays in fits and starts but when good is bloody brilliant

Monreal being the best left back in the league so far is probably the main reason he's been chosen.
DuncanRG Posted 12 November, 2015 Posted 12 November, 2015 I'm still putting United's defensive improvement down to Schneiderlin's general awesomeness. It helps, as does Van Gaal's cautious style, but Smalling and (before he was injured) Shaw have been very good. Can't argue with that team - well written, too. I notice the Mirror did theirs today but split it into each football reporter. Not one chose a Saints player. Fair enough but seems strange how they've seemingly overlooked a team who has looked on par with the top four since September. Here it is, if anyone wants it. Wanyama does get picked by one writer, but then he also chooses Jonathan Walters... Most picked a lone striker (Vardy) which may explain why Pelle wasn't pickedby anyone.
SuperSAINT Posted 12 November, 2015 Posted 12 November, 2015 It helps, as does Van Gaal's cautious style, but Smalling and (before he was injured) Shaw have been very good. I don't think it's a coincidence that Mike Smalling has improved since the name change.
The9 Posted 12 November, 2015 Posted 12 November, 2015 Monreal has been great so far this season imo. Monreal being the best left back in the league so far is probably the main reason he's been chosen. Fair enough, I haven't really been paying much attention to Arsenal for some reason.
sadoldgit Posted 12 November, 2015 Posted 12 November, 2015 butland has been excellent. our defensive record is not as good as it was/could be/should be Lukaku would have been in with a shout for this side. How good could/should it be? Surely it is as good (or bad) as it is?
Deano6 Posted 12 November, 2015 Posted 12 November, 2015 How good could/should it be? Surely it is as good (or bad) as it is? It should be perfect. But they messed it up.
buctootim Posted 12 November, 2015 Posted 12 November, 2015 It should be perfect. But they messed it up. Probably Maya's fault
