So, international break and 2 weeks without any meaningful football. 14 points from the last 18 available with some brilliant performances and a couple of dodgy ones but picking up points.

Swansea (H) 3-1 W

Chelsea (A) 3-1 W

Leicester (H) 2-2 D

Liverpool (A) 1-1 D

B'mouth (H) 2-0 W

S'land (A) 1-0 W

Next 6:

Stoke (H)

Man City (A)

Villa (H)

Palace (A)

Spurs (H)

Arsenal (H)

4 home games left this side of New Year but some tricky fixtures. I'd take 10 points if offered now, especially if 3 were at the expense of Spurs.

Stoke and Villa at home should be wins (Stoke away is a different prospect). Think we will struggle to get anything out of Arsenal, Spurs or Man city and I's settle for a point away to a decent Palace side.

ermmmm 7 pts out 18 don't sound to good :scared:

This will be a much bigger test. Like it or lump it, we haven't got a result against anyone serious yet (the team in 16th who've won 2 and lost 7, and the team in 10th who've only won 1 in 3 of their 12 games so far, are unfortunately, not nearly as impressive as we'd like them to be.)

If we get a few points or even a win against City, Spurs and (in particular (for personal reasons)) Arsenal, I'd be deliriously happy.

I think it is possible for our team to get something from all those fixtures even City away with a bit of luck. What a time to be a saints supporter. Think we'll win 3/4 at home (Spurs the least likely win IMO) and hopefully pick up 2-3 points away. Gonna be ambitious and predict 14 points.

would take 11-12

Why on earth would we struggle to get anything out of spurs or arsenal? Tough games yes, but we're the home side and we've proven ourselves to be a very hard team to beat for several years now.

ermm because they are both better teams than us. Of course we might get a result but the balance of probability is we won't.

Rubbish. We can bear Spurs or Arsenal at home. We got 4 from these last season. I also think we can finish above West Ham and Leicester but you think they are like Barcelona.

Really don't see why we can't get a draw at least against either of those teams at St Mary's. Arsenal especially are inconsistent, beating Bayern one week, then getting spanked in the reverse fixture. I'm not saying we're as good as Bayern but Arsenal have been beaten by West Ham, Zagreb, Olympiakos and Chelsea this year. That's 4 pretty average sides.

Spurs haven't done anything particularly special other than beating an out of sorts Man City team. They've draw with Stoke, Everton, Leicester and Swansea so hardly ripping the league apart.

Looking at since we got back to the premier league we are actually quite likely to get something at home to Arsenal.

Since Saints returned to the Premier League; at St Mary's vs Arsenal...

2012/13 Southampton 1 Arsenal 1 - DRAW

2013/14 Southampton 2 Arsenal 2 - DRAW

2014/15 Southampton 2 Arsenal 0 - WIN

I think you're underestimating Saints a little if you think we will struggle to get even a point. Arsenal haven't won here in their last 4 attempts. Spurs are definitely a bogey side but records are there to be broken. They lost every game here right up until our relegation.

I'll take a punt at:

Stoke - Win

Man City - Loss

Villa - Win

Palace - Draw

Spurs - Win

Arsenal Draw

Stoke- Win (1-0 scrappy scrappy affair though)

Man City- Loss (2-0 to them- with Aguero back to score a brace)

Villa- Win (2-0 even with new manager should have too much)

Palace- Win (we are a bogey team for Palace, 1-0 win)

Spurs- Loss (3-2 to them, it will be a bs one though i guarantee you- i reckon we will have injuries to hamper us too :( )

Arsenal- Draw (1-1, tense game I reckon, with emotions running high)

That would be 10 points- what I am expecting. Anything more and I'd be very happy.

Football is a funny game as you never know what Saints team is going to turn up on the day.

If Pelle does not get suspended and Mane starts to hit top form then I can't see us losing any of the 6 games coming up.

Something about us these days as we are grinding the results.

I predict 3 wins and 3 draws (12 from 18)

Ten points would be a good return. That's a tricky batch of six fixtures.

Although we are pretty good, this next batch includes two teams who are going to finish above us (Man City and Arsenal), one who will likely finish above us (Spurs), two teams who are around our level, maybe just a tad below (Palace and Stoke) and only one match where we are clearly and unambiguously the better side (Villa)

Football being what it is, we will probably lose to Villa and beat the other 5 clubs!

Normally yes, but Stoke have actually taken more points away than home this year and now boast some good ball players as Hughes attempts to slowly change their style, and Villa took a point off Man C with their new manager, so we need to be at our best for both. I think we are good enough to get points of some if not all of Spurs Manc Arsenal and Palace particularly if we stay clear of injuries and suspensions and play to our strengths.

So we've got 3 weeks really for JRod and Long to get back into fold to help cover for Pelle's impending ban.

I imagine something like this would work ok:

Stek

Cedric, VVD, Fonte, Bertrand

Wanyama, Clasie

Jrod/Long Davis Tadic

Mane

especially against the bigger sides when we would be looking to play on the break.

We might go 352 when Pelle is out. Long and Mane front two could be dangerous.

Anyhoo, this "next 6" is, of course, league only. Our next 6 matches includes the scousers in the league cup, after the Man City game.

That is the game I want to win most in the next six.

Minimum of 10 points for me here. The only game I am bothered about is City away. The rest we are very capable of getting something out of. Not worried about Arsenal. Spurs will be tough and would settle for a point but they are due to lose of few games soon and there is no reason why we cant beat them. More than 10 points and I will be chuffed.

I'd be disappointed with any less than 9, happy enough with 9-11, pleased with 12 and delighted with any more than that.

Palace away will be as difficult as Arsenal or Spurs home in its own way, they're all better than they were last season. But I'd be disappointed if we didn't manage at least one win in that lot. As usual I expect nothing from Man City away, and to misquote Jamie Carragher for a moment, with the greatest respect to them, we should be beating the likes of Stoke and Villa at home... :D

I can see us winning 5 of them, but I can also see us losing 4 of them!

I think go for the 9 at Palace, Stoke and Villa - everything else is a bonus in my opinion. Though knowing us, we'll lose at Villa, but beat Man City or something along those lines.

Saints scores first:

Stoke (H) W - 2-1

Man City (A) L - 0-2

Villa (H) W - 3-0

Palace (A) - D 1-1

Spurs (H) - W 2-1

Arsenal (H) - L 0-1

I make that 10.

and ....of course it's not a Prem.fixture, but we have Liverpool (H) in Capital One Cup in the middle of that lot ...somewhere?.

The most important thing will be to retain form and fitness within the squad. Recent results show we have the capability, all we need now ...is the luck.

It always puzzles me when people refer to particular teams as a bogey team for us. I get that sometimes a team has a bad run against another team. But is there any evidence at all that that run has predictive power over a future result (beyond the actual relative strengths of the team)? I suspect it's overwhelmingly just statistical noise, and that the only thing you should focus on for an actual prediction is the current quality and form of the two teams. If being a bogey team is actually an actionable thing, could someone please explain their theory about what is the cause of it. Does one changing room somehow put strange chemicals into the blood of the opposition players? Is the journey to that ground somehow destructive to playing ability? That they always have incompatible weather? That one manager always outthinks the other? Or perhaps there's an actual bogey monster that decides to adopt certain teams and make sure we can't beat them or vice versa?!

Random fluctuation makes it almost inevitable that when you have just say a dozen games to look at between two clubs (compared with hundreds played over several years) there will inevitably be pairs of clubs that have unbalanced results against each other. I'm pretty sure that's all that being a bogey club is. Don't rely on it for betting or predicting!

And on that basis, given that most of these fixtures are against top half clubs about equally spread above and below us, I predict two wins, two draws, two losses for 8 points.

I think we can win all the games upto new year tbh, we are starting to come into form, players have settled should be a good couple of months for us i think

Stoke (H) 2-0

Man City (A) 1-2 Think we will win this, City are not playing to well atm, plus before us they have got juve which will be a hard game for them which i think they will also lose so will be down on moral and may be a little tired, plus we seem to turn up against the big teams.

Liverpool (H) 2-0 think Klopp might be to focused on the league, and again same as city they have lots of games coming up with only 3 days rest between games.

Villa (H) 2-0 just a poor side tbh.

Palace (A) 1-2 playing well but i think are back line is good enough to stop them and i think we are good enough in attack to cause them lots of problems.

Spurs (H) 2-1 playing ok, not good but not bad either, been lucky with a few results this season and with games coming up fast for them i think we can win this, plus Pochys tactics means they might be tired during this period and we get an extra days rest over them after a long trip up to newcastle and back i think they might struggle a bit for fitness.

Arsenal (H) 2-0 lots of injurys and normally go off pace just before xmass so i think we can win this too, plus have City 5 days before us so we get an extra 2 days time to prep for the game.

West Ham (A) 1-2 this will be a tough game i think.

My opinion is always biased though as i always expect us to win :D but i really do think we can win the next 8 games.

 Not a chance in hell we'll win the next 8 games. Not a single side in the league is capable of that sort of form this season.

And every one said Vardy would never score 9 times in a row and be the top goalscorer on the league............... Football in unpredictable any thing can happen, i just believe in the team i support.

You also would not pictured Chelsea sitting in 16th either........ 3 points off relegation zone........... good thing football is not predictable really......

Thanks for the reminder "9", you will doubtless be attending the games, whilst I hope to find a suitable " stream" on my computer - here in Stockholm.

I am actually going to Man City and I've got an ST so yeah, Villa too.

Haven't been to an away since Chelsea and not going to one after that until Norwich, so about 1/3 over the course of the season. Didn't do Sunderland or Liverpool as we went to both those last season, not going to Palace due to a re-arranged gig (due to League Cup game) and not going to West Ham as I'm in my birthplace watching a League 2 game instead.

Nine points would be an excellent and feasible return. 8 would be acceptable, anything less not, anything 10 or above would be excellent.

Spurs will play a very high pressing game and Mane, Tadic and Pelle are very good at scoring on breakaway, so a point or a win isn't too optimistic.

I'm sure we will be working on soaking up pressure and breakaways before we meet the three top teams.

As long as you're not the one screaming abuse at everyone and anything if we don't because they haven't met your expectations, there's nothing wrong with that. :)

Nope ofc not, win or lose im proud of my team, i wouldnt do the 365 mile round trip for every home game if i didnt :D ( if im not working ofc ).

I don't think anyone thought it was likely enough to consider talking about until he'd already scored in 8 in a row!

no they spoke about him hitting 8 then when he hit 8 they spoke about 9, but they doubted him from 4 goals in a row and on wards....... They do every player that is not playing in a top 6 club........ this is my point, we are coming into form, against teams in the league which are hardly on top form, who have more games to play than us with less rest than us, these are all teams we can on are day beat. so why not think its possible?.

i think its possible, and to say it isnt is silly, as we all know any thing is possible in Football.
