View From The Top Posted 5 November, 2015 Share Posted 5 November, 2015 If anyone could pick one up for me that would be grand. I'll stick and extra few quid in the poppy appeal pot as well.
sadoldgit Posted 5 November, 2015 Share Posted 5 November, 2015 Nice idea and it looks cool too. Would be really good if someone local kind soul could get a few for those of us who live afar but not sure how that could be arranged?

SNSUN Posted 5 November, 2015 Share Posted 5 November, 2015 There are a few for sale on eBay. Obviously the charity won't be getting the money (I'd assume) but any honest people could always slip some dosh into the poppy pot when they see one anyway. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.Xsouthampton+poppy.TRS0&_nkw=southampton+poppy&_sacat=

VectisSaint Posted 5 November, 2015 Share Posted 5 November, 2015 Nope, they seem to be knock off jobs. Not only are they knock-off jobs but they have no connection with the British Legion. If the people who had knocked these out had any understanding they would know that the poppy leaf should be at "11 o'clock" as were the official Saints/legion ones for sale in the MegaStore. Don't touch these EBay ones with a bargepole.

VectisSaint Posted 5 November, 2015 Share Posted 5 November, 2015 Myth. I nearly always have mine at the 2 o'clock position. It doesn't matter. http://support.britishlegion.org.uk/app/answers/detail/a_id/279/~/poppy-and-remembrance-etiquette Its not a myth that the ones that are designed and made to be associated with and raise money for the British Legion, will always have the leaf at 11 o'clock (if they have a leaf). Therefore it is perfectly clear that these are unofficial knock-off items that provide no support to the Royal British Legion charity. You may like to own one, but it just would prove that you have not supported the charity in any way, and nor has the person selling them. Red Poppy item designs are copyright of the RBL, this one is not to the official design and is therefore a fake (in my opinion). There is also nothing in the link that you provided about the leaf, only the way they are worn, this refers to the often mentioned and discussed opinion of whether they should be worn on the left or right. There are myths that women should wear them on the right, but these are myths.
Hatch Posted 5 November, 2015 Share Posted 5 November, 2015 Talking about the right way to wear them at least 20 of my female FB friends met a friendly old military man yesterday who explained to them how to wear it. He certainly gets around a lot for an old man.

Pancake Posted 8 November, 2015 Share Posted 8 November, 2015 Disgusting to see so many heads of state, high ranking politicians, military leaders, war veterans and other wearing their Poppies wrong according to Vectis. I hope he has called the BBC to complain.
VectisSaint Posted 8 November, 2015 Share Posted 8 November, 2015 Disgusting to see so many heads of state, high ranking politicians, military leaders, war veterans and other wearing their Poppies wrong according to Vectis. I hope he has called the BBC to complain. No-one is wearing it wrong. There is no wrong way. You seem incapable of understanding that the issue is with the badges that are on EBay. I guess as I have explained already that you are just dense, no other explanation that I can think of for your being so incapable of understanding something quite simple. So, for your sake again, here is an explanation in as simple terms as possible. Poppy Badges are made in association with the Royal British Legion, and money raised by their sale or from donations goes to this excellent charity which helps our war veterans. The Poppy badges sold by Southampton Football Club were made in association with the RBL (as most other clubs did as well). They are to the copyright design of the RBL, and will always have the poppy on the left (looking at it) with the leaf at 11 o'clock, and the other badge (football crest) on the right. The badges on EBay are not official RBL badges, and therefore any money made by them does not benefit the RBL in any way. Therefore they are a con in that people may think they are donating to the charity, when they probably are not (give credit to the EBay sellers, maybe they are donating). Hopefully that was an explanation at a low enough level for you to understand and stop making yourself look a complete ****.
