Saint_clark Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Surprised but very happy to see JWP in his best position! Probably going to mean Davis is shunted back to the holding position he isn't as good in so JWP can mess about thinking he is an attacking midfielder. Weird selection. The Saints twitter lists JWP as CM.
Saint_clark Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Horrible line-up that? Seems weird. It's only two different to the last game?
Wrensup Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Can only think without Wanyama that Ron is worried on defending set plays. But you lose so much when a CB plays instead of a proper RB. With that logic surely Romeo should play not exactly small is he :s
James Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 This Cedric thing is just bizarre. Plays really well for a couple of games and then is dropped for Yoshida who is just awful at right back. Really don't understand what Ron sees in him. Did he not watch the back pass against United? We will lose this. I thought we would before the line up and now I'm convinced.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Let the scapegoating begin.... Pick on a player to slag off before a ball is kicked..... Pathetic
Saint Charlie Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 With that logic surely Romeo should play not exactly small is he :s Yep. But injury aside there can be no other reason to play Yoshida over Cedric? Not even sure how Yoshida has suddenly been seen as RB cover. He is the sort you play in an injury crisis out there but I don't see any attributes he has to play there which Fonte or VVD don't have yet Fonte has never played full back in his many years with us. Also shows how **** Martina (an actual RB) is.
5string Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Line up: Stek Yoshida Fonte VVD Bertrand Clasie JWP Davis Mane Tadic Pelle Yoshida at RB and a ligfhtweight CM 3 doesn't really bode well. That's an attacking line up to me: Yoshi & Bertrand overlapping as wingbacks Clasie sitting in front of Fonte/VvD in a central defensive triangle, while JWP & Davis look forward with their passes (not the too-frequent backwards of early season). Mane/Tadic/Pelle running rings around their dreadful defence. Just, no enforcer. Hmm. Mind you, I was nearly right with my 6-3-1 Sunderland formation! 4-5-1 innit?
Saint_clark Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Let the scapegoating begin.... Pick on a player to slag off before a ball is kicked..... Pathetic Yep, ridiculous. This places opinion on Yoshida seems to change every month. And JWP put in one of his best performances for us in DM.

Saint Charlie Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Let the scapegoating begin.... Pick on a player to slag off before a ball is kicked..... Pathetic Barely anyone is doing that. Its the manager decision which is being questioned.
Mowgli Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Happy with that line up. Prefer Cedric but it's not about who is the better player - it's about how we keep our shape without Wanyama in the side.
Highfield Saint Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 That's an attacking line up to me: Yoshi & Bertrand overlapping as wingbacks Clasie sitting in front of Fonte/VvD in a central defensive triangle, while JWP & Davis look forward with their passes (not the too-frequent backwards of early season). Yoshida - Fonte - VVD JWP - Davis - Clasie - Tadic - Bertrand Mane - Pelle
5string Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 More like 3-5-2? Yoshida - Fonte - VVD JWP - Davis - Clasie - Tadic - Bertrand Mane - Pelle I meant Sunderland's formation was 4-5-1. Very defensive. Yeah, ours is quite flexible - no bad thing.
Saint Pete Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Yoshida selection possibly to compensate for how small we are in midfield to help with defending set pieces?
svetigpung Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 most importantly we have Fonte and VVd at CB's. Yoshida at RB doesn't worry me (too) much. Why no Romeo at CM though? Could be a proper battle in central midfield. Hope we pass it around quickly and dont let them in the game. Pellé to net a couple.
Matthew Le God Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Ronald explains Yoshida plays as it allows for flexibility of formation in the first half depending on how Sunderland line-up...
Saint Charlie Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Koeman says Maya plays because they normally play 4-4-2 and he gives us the chance to switch to a back 3. However today they are clearly set up in a 4-5-1 and from Allardyce's comments that was always going to be the case. Pick our best side and let them deal with us.

Polaroid Saint Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Yeah, Yoshida was utter sh!t at RB versus Villa too. FFS. Whilst Cedric is definitely first choice RB, we've seen RK deploy a slightly 'lopsided' defence effectively before. Anyone watching can see Yoshida is a clearly capable player who's gradually reducing the number of errors each time he plays. Players can get better you know? UTS
5string Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Subs bench: K Davis Cedric Romeu Martina Juanmi Caulker Seager Quite defensive, that. Where are the attacking options, apart from Juanmi? Is Seager attacking? I get the impression he scores goals in the U21, but correct me if I'm wrong.

5string Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Injured. Of course. Doh! When's that January window...?
Bobbyboy Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Gaston back out of favour then. That bench really does look lean from an attacking point of view.
JackFrost Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Yoshida to get another left foot screamer. That was all Yoshida's fault
BILLY Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Yeah, Yoshida was utter sh!t at RB versus Villa too. FFS. Hodgey Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 This us where Ron can show how good he is - to me this makes zero sense, Sunderlands best attacking threat has been their quick left back so I would assume cedrics pace would be better. Equally big SAM midfielders will be putting it about so a massive test for our 3 small midfielders. All that said there must be a plan (and I don't buy the revert to 3 at the back as who would play right back if not making a sub, and if you are why not just bring maya on?), and I'm hoping we are pushing our quality passing and fitness of those 3 who in that respect are better. Time to show we can cope without big Vic.
InvictaSaint Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Clean sweep for an away win on the Sky Sports Soccer Saturday panel. More confidence on there than on here.....[emoji15]
Polaroid Saint Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 I have had the 'pleasure' of being at the last four abysmal away games at Sunderland (the league loss last seaaon was the worst game ever in the history of all football, at any level, ever, in the world, ever). Because of this, today, I am as far away from the North East as possible. As all of Saints results are all about me, obviously, I predict a Saints away win. Score? A one-nil thumping.
Saint Charlie Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Clean sweep for an away win on the Sky Sports Soccer Saturday panel. More confidence on there than on here.....[emoji15] They just pick whichever team is higher in the league.
Goatboy Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 The genius move of dropping Cedric again, always works well. If he's not injured, that is a moronic decision. Yoshida is a ok CB and a poor RB at this level, offering nothing going forward. Cedric has been excellent. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3bdzur
Saint Charlie Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Jonno Forte scored sometimes. You wouldn't drop Lambert for him. Cedric is clearly a superior full back. Hopefully it works well but seems unnecessary tinkering.
Mouldy Coat Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Yoshida is totally sh1t at full back and less than average at cb. Oh dear

ALWAYS_SFC Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 I'm sure there's a football forum of no opinions or analysis around somewhere, it'd be great.
St Marco Posted 7 November, 2015 Posted 7 November, 2015 Was confident until I saw James does nothing Prowse in the line up..
