That elusive 3rd goal..

3 home games on the trot now, 2-0 up, seemingly totally in control, step up a gear and win 4,5-0, no bother…

But wait, Leicester 2 changes, 2 goals; Villa even later change, soft penalty, (thank god it was last minute), Bournemouth two changes, WTF?!

We should have gone on yesterday and put 6 or 7 past them - had we got the killer 3rd goal!

Why, what is the problem? half time talk, fear, sitting too deep, over confidence in defence, lack of composure in final third?

In the second half we had 3 stupid shots from outside the area, which in the first half, the ball would have been retained, moved around, better chance created. If I recall, same with the other two games. several players guilty, just don't understand it!

There is no pleasing footy fans! We can't win by 6 or 7 every week or even every season! Sometimes we will be best for the first half sometimes the second, sometimes we will loose when we deserve to win other times we will get a 90th minute winner when we should be thrashed! Football is a great lottery and that's why we all follow it.

Perhaps we are missing the point its not just our changes.... Bournemouth certainly changed things up from their perspective, which affected us 2nd half IMO.

So you are saying that we are no good when teams change their players. Really don't buy this, its been clear from several games, that something changes when we have a lead, whether its at half-time or not. We start to sit back and invite the opposition on. Ronald alluded to it, but claimed it was because we can't keep the tempo up for 90 minutes, though this does not explain Villa. It really is frustrating, it does not need us to win 4, 5, 6 nil, but at least we should try to carry on playing, are we unable to cope with changes to the way our opposition play. Better teams will beat us with second half performances lie we are putting in.

Some really stupid comments from a few to the original perfectly reasonable question, if you can't see the problem then I don't know what you are thinking. We don't moan when we win, we didn't win against Leiceter, very lucky not to have lost, very lucky not to have at least conceded yesterday, our fortune was that Boscombe have no-one at the moment capable of scoring.

I think we struggle to keep the ball and control the game when teams really press us - In the recent games the opposition sat back a bit in the early parts of the game not to get caught out - once they had not choice but to all out attack we struggled as we dont have the mentality or confidence to continue to attack or keep hold of the ball under pressure. I think this is why we dont do well against Spurs. I would say its a confidence and mental issue not one of quality

I hate to criticise players for having a shot from the edge of the box. Players not having the balls to shoot has driven me crazy over the last three years. The only one that was probably not worth it IMO was Wanyama's first-time effort from 30-odd yards. I'd far rather players had a go than didn't. That being said, I agree with your point. To me it seems like a lack of killer instinct; there were more goals to be had in the last 5-10 mins of the first half, but we were far too happy just to keep the ball and knock it round while the crowd were chanting 'ole' instead of actually being more ruthless and trying to create chances.

I'm inclined to agree although Liverpool pressed and we did ok against them. Maybe the players are feeling a bit of pressure when at home.
