doddisalegend Posted 1 November, 2015 Share Posted 1 November, 2015 Whole load of blue lights (and two horses) heading towards the train station as we walked past the Marlands no idea if it was trouble or they were late for their tea break though. Mattio Posted 1 November, 2015 Share Posted 1 November, 2015 There were a few scuffles and fights throughout town, the OB were pretty fast to deal with it all apart from the one OP mentioned, some lairy **** nearly smacked a kid who looked about 15 for watching what was happening. Yes, I saw the horses, and a guy whose shoe had been destroyed by a hoof and was laughing about it, but it all seemed a bit handbags. One police rider saying someone was involved, and the guy saying he wasn't.. Usual confusing stuff and I had a train to catch, but I didn't feel at risk or worried. Golden Balls Posted 2 November, 2015 Share Posted 2 November, 2015 In the Northam concourse the Bounemouth fans started kicking the metal barrier and threw a few of their pints over. Our fans reacted by kicking it back and it went very quiet. Saw 4-5 Bournemouth fans being prats on the way to the ground when walking alongside the Kingsland. Trying their best to get a reaction but nobody seemed to care and just laughed it off. Much to their frustration.

JRM Posted 2 November, 2015 Share Posted 2 November, 2015 I can't comment on the events above as didn't see those, but walking down to the ground 30 / 40 mins before kick off there were a couple of groups of Bournemouth doing as much as they could to provoke a reaction from Saints fans, many of whom were just quietly making their way down to the ground, a few Bournemouth even started giving it the "Play up Pompey" and "He's only a poor little scummer his face is all battered" song, if any of these were later caught up in trouble and were on the wrong end of it, then good fair play to any Saints fans who put them in their place. SotonCherries Posted 2 November, 2015 Share Posted 2 November, 2015 As a Cherries fan, I thought the day passed off fairly peacefully. Police seemed a little over bearing perhaps, horses and dogs a bit over the top. The only issue I saw all day was the bloke sparked out from a punch after the game, which I gather was a Bournemouth fan who got into some row with a Saints fan and got a smack for his trouble. Batman Posted 2 November, 2015 Share Posted 2 November, 2015 Looking at this game from out of the area, just seemed Bournemouth were very much intent on making this into some sort of Rivalry. When I said Bournemouth, I mean a portion of their fanbase. The media, more so SKY did a good job in pointing out that there is only 1 south coast derby as for as football/fans are concerned and this was not it. Also, Tyler made a point in saying that in many Southampton fans eyes, Bournemouth are basically 'family'. Even their chairmen were on BBC saying they are great pals etc for some reason, cherries (some of) are intent on creating some sort of rivalry that just isnt there. look at this post I found this morning on a Bournemouth site.... I can see the return match getting out of control , I would seriously consider not coming to Bmth if I was a Saints fan just find some of their anger towards us, utterly bizarre

Crazy Diamond Posted 2 November, 2015 Share Posted 2 November, 2015 I lived in Bournemouth for three years, worked for the club for six months, worked in a pub in the centre of Bournemouth, so I feel qualified to say that they are an odd bunch of people down there. One in particular sticks in the memory. He was a freelance journalist that covered the club for some newspaper that's probably dead by now, and a big Weymouth fan. He said he always enjoyed Dorchester v Weymouth as he could give Dorchester fans 'a good kicking' and he enjoyed 'kneeing the b*stards in the face'. Dorchester v Weymouth, that ultimate nawty fixture. I also heard someone say they witnessed Steve Claridge being punched to the ground when he played for Weymouth. sadoldgit Posted 2 November, 2015 Share Posted 2 November, 2015 An old colleague of mine, Crystal Palace supporter and plastic Scouser, once said to me that the Bournemouth fans really hate Southampton fans don't they. As a Londoner myself I was a bit surprised by his statement as I knew several other Southampton fans with a soft spot for Bournemouth and didn't "get" the rivalry. Clearly there are some who have issues but you would never put it in the same category as the Poopey rivalry. Why people get themselves into a tiz about a game of football has always been beyond me. I find it very sad that some people still cant help themselves and have the need to punch someone else just because they support another team. melmacian_saint Posted 2 November, 2015 Share Posted 2 November, 2015 I really wish we hadn't played them in League One, especially when they were beginning to get rich. Not playing us then would've avoided attracting yobs to their fan base who want to make this a rivalry instead of a game between good neighbours. Had we only played them competitively now, I'm sure even these little fights and chants wouldn't have happened.

Highfield Saint Posted 2 November, 2015 Share Posted 2 November, 2015 My wife and I dealt with the injured guy. I walked next to a disturbance and a women giving someone who was clearly in distress CPR. There had been some handbags and this was followed by a few guys being confronted by a single fan saying why don't you pick on someone who will stand up for themselves. The old bill had someone who I assume was involved and the horses then came running down the road. Don't know who was who but hope the guy on the floor is OK. If that was your wife giving CPR then you should be proud. They all need to grow up. If they really want a fight then there are plenty who will oblige. No need to pick on the innocent. northam soul Posted 2 November, 2015 Share Posted 2 November, 2015 They were out looking for it and the bald tattoed neck **** was involved in the minor scuffle in brittania road after the game. I happened to be in the middle of it when it started ( not intentional ) when he and about 15 or so of his hanger ons got a bit more than they bargained for. It then continued on all the way to the train station although they were escorted so not much happened until a load of Saints younger boys appeared from behind the Costa coffee and chased some of their lot, it was only minor as the old bill were there pretty quickly.
