  1. 1. Man of the match v Bournemouth

Bournemouth changed the game at half time injecting energy and raising their tempo pressing the ball and penning us in. Losing Fonte didn't help as nobody was leading. Again like the Leicester game the forwards and midfielders were lethargic. We needed some aggression, not stupid late tackles and got in their faces. I also felt that playing the ball up to a pressed Pelle unable to hold the ball up didn't work. Mane and Tadic just faded out of the game. The midfielders, Clasie and Davis playing passive covering with Wanyama only a tackle from a red card giving Bournemouth too much space. Romeu is more combative but we needed Tadic and Mane to up their work rate defensively and help out. The two full backs also mostly waited for the game to come to them. The whole team were just trying to compact and hold on.

The first half was great, all the ingredients missing in the second half. We need to scrap when we are under the cosh. The first half was easy but when teams up their tempo and press us back like Leicester and Bournemouth we need to change tack and hit on the break, put the ball in behind them and get runners behind them very much like the Davis goal but in different circumstances. If we can't keep the ball like the first half we have to exploit the space behind their back four and quickly expose their frailties putting them back under pressure and change the game again.

Not that it matters but out of interest who got the captain's armband when Fonte went off?

I thought it was Davis but it looked like Wanyama pulled something off his arm after being sent off, although I didn't see him hand it to someone else. Wanyama was captain v Villa.

During the second half I noticed Mane looking irritated that none of the other foward players were making runs or looking for space and afterwards started to look like he couldn't be bothered to try either because no one else was making the effort.

Well we did go to pieces a bit in the second half, some seemed to give the impression that the job was done and dusted and no further effort was required. Probably those that had played Wednesday and Sunday...whereas Mané...well he had an enforced rest on Wednesday didn't he.

Fair point, I hadn't accounted for that for two reasons. The DVR cut off the end of the Liverpool game and I missed the sending off, secondly I couldn't watch the Villa game, I was only able to follow it on here and the team hadn't lodged in my brain.

Then what did Wanyama hand over when sent off?

Don't know, whatever he was smoking maybe? Davis had the armband from the start of the half. Seem to recall it was even announced, or maybe that was on MOTD2 or SNF or something.

Just checked on MOTD2 on iPlayer, around 27.53, skippers armband clearly seen on Davis left arm (just after Stanislav's shot deflects off Yoshida)
