Sorry but the second half performance (as it was vs Leics) wasnt good enough - we totally lost midfield, Clasie was a passenger and Wanyama is a bulldozer but he needs people around him to hold the ball - we also sat far far too deep

A better team would have scored at least two second half there

Very good first 40 mins, got complacent and the inevitable happened. Kudos to Eddie Howe for pouncing on it.

Why Clasie went off instead of Wanyama is a mystery but Koeman was seriously ****ed at the players in the second half.

That said Bournemouth were excellent in the 2nd half, we just had the better cutting edge.

As poor as we were in that second half, I thought the back 4 were still pretty solid. They held things together and were resilient despite the midfield not protecting them as much as they should have. Cedric was excellent in particular. Wanyama is a shadow of his former self. Not at all imposing anymore and getting more and more clumsy.

At the end of the day - it is a win. We were strong in the first half and took our chances. Bournemouth were strong in the second half but still didn't really create anything clear cut. That is the difference and is why we are sitting 7th tonight.

Bring on next week and PLEASE can we break the feckin Stadium of Light curse.

Fantastic first half. Overall performance second half was shocking but we did at least do well in terms of 'last line of defence' - even though we were almost constantly under the cosh, Bournemouth didn't create many clear cut chances.

It always seemed likely that Bournemouth would improve second half but don't think anyone expected the game to turn on its head quite so much! Our inability just to control the ball and make simple passes when we got the ball back was frustrating and worrying - is it just a symptom of being out of the game so much, or are we (as I say pretty much every week...) not fit enough to sustain our first half levels?

Bizarre How we are jackal and Hyde. Second half vs MU, Leicester, and now today, just awful.... No passing , no closing down and no goal threat.... Weird. Also Vic missing the trip up north next weekend.... Fonte? Injury, anyone know ?

Happy with the points, but just why are we making life so difficult for ourselves when we are leading at home like this? I can only assume it is because of instruction from the manager, but the way we just sit back and invite pressure on our defence like that is going to cost us when playing against a better team than Bournemouth (like it did against Leicester).

For the whole second half we had everybody sat back defending the lead, meaning every time we won the ball in defence, we didn't have an outlet up front and the ball just comes back at us every time. It's not rocket science Ron - leave some players up front and then the opposition can't commit as many players forward.

Cedric my MOTM today. Played really well and seemed to be the only player in the 2nd half capable of keeping his composure and finding a team-mate with a pass.

As for Wanyama - I'm fast starting to think we actually would have been better off if he had gone to Spurs. When he can't be ar$ed to put in the effort, like today, it's like playing with ten men. As somebody else noted - after he was sent off we didn't even miss him; that's how ineffective he was. Should have been subbed on 55-60 mins for Romeu when it was obvious what was going to happen. He's just a liability. I find it incredible that the only person incapable of seeing this is the one man who makes the decisions.

So a bitter-sweet afternoon really. A win, a clean sheet, and up to 7th in the table, but my god that 2nd half was just painful to watch.

FFS where did that 2nd half come from!!? Was sitting back waiting for us to roll at least another 2 in. Fair play to Bournemouth but I have seriously never seen any side so totally dominate a half and then get owned like we did in the 2nd. Amazing really but we got 3 points so, ulimately, who gives a f#ck. :smug:

I am a fan of RK but it was blindingly obvious Victor was going to be sent off. Bournemouth had nothing to lose and went for it, and the local derby meant more to them.

I don't think we are very fit and as soon as we have a spell when we have to chase we just look knackered,

Overall 3 points and we don't have the Cherries giving it a big one

They couldn't let us enjoy that win could they!

Cedric my man of the match for sure. Put in some very important challenges and didn't put a foot wrong.

Have to mention Clasie as well, his pinpoint pass to start the movements for the first goal was excellent.

Give credit to Bournemouth for a superb 2nd half response. They gambled on speed, out ran us and out-thought us. Without knowing all the facts, certainly looked like Koeman shd have subbed Wanyama at half-time. But more than that, he's got to find a way of getting the team fired up for when we come back out. It certainly happened at Chelsea, but on a lot of other games our early 2nd half performance has lacked energy. That seems very fixable.

Tied for 6th place. Not too bad.

Agree Cedric MOM. Looking like a brilliant cut-price Clyne replacement. Clasie good 1st half ****e 2nd. Hopefully just a fitness thing.

As good a second half they had they didn't really trouble our keeper. They were so poor the first half that it was always going to be noticeable if they improved.

We took our foot off the gas and made some mistakes but their second half display was not as good as the pundits imply. They did what a team is supposed to do and actually play football. First half they didn't play at all. Just parked the bus.

Great first half, and lovely goals but I don't know where that second half performance came from. Just bizarre! I wonder if we came out thinking it was already won and had our complacency hats on. Thought we'd come out and get at least another 2 goals to improve our GD.

Vic, I thought, was poor. Seems to be at half battery power and hasn't looked great for a while imo. Down to 10 and I'd forgotten he'd gone off.

I felt proud in the first half, embarrassed in the second. Three points and I should be cracking open a beer, instead it feels like we lost. Weird game.

Can we have a 6-0 rout next game please?

Strange game.

Excellent first half, Pelle, Tadic, Cedric and Davis all excellent, two great goals.

Second half so poor. Started slowly and didnt ever get back into it.

Midfield poor and seemed to be very easy to run through. Wanyama needs to stop getting booked early on as it restricts his game so much from then on. Clasie good first half, struggled physically second.

Despite being so poor we didnt really give them any good chances which is positive.

Saints MOTM: Cedric easily. Quality performance in defence and made telling runs forward.

It's got nothing to do with fitness, it's the passing and nerve that goes. No composure, suddenly no one wanting to step up and take control, hesitance, poor decision making and everyone getting nervous and sitting back. Still fcked off about the Leicester mess and that was just as bad as a performance second half.

Agree that losing the nerve and composure plays a large part, but we have become sloppy in quite a few games this year. Again, it could just be that in every case it's because we are panicking. So frustrating when the ball goes to someone up the field, in space, and they just play a lazy pass that immediately puts us back under pressure!

A win is a win, BUT...

That 2nd half performance was terrible, much worse than the Leicester game in my opinion. Difference was Bournemouth didn't have Mahrez and Vardy to take advantage of it. Koeman should be tearing them a new one after that, because if we keep producing that, we will lose a lot of points against better opposition. It's hard to understand how a team can be as dominant as we were in the 1st half and then not be able to string 3 passes together in the 2nd. You have to put it down to complacency, which is not good enough given what happened against Leicester.

Some will be critical of Wanyama for his 2nd yellow, but a number of other players were just as at fault for allowing their player to run so far without any sort of challenge - which was typical of us throughout the half.
