Legod Third Coming Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 not got a great deal to do with it... of course it has refs know the stage, know the age of the players holloway and motson are stunned!
Gorgiesaint Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Ian Holloway on 5 live - "Its like being in Rome, they're baying for blood, probably the referee's" no probably Lowe's....
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 it deserved a red.. Just seen it. Let me put it this way: If that was a Man U player, I would have been screaming for a red card.
RobM Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Oh dear, Rooney warming up as a possible replacement (edit - for Welbeck, I should add)
Thedelldays Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 of course it has refs know the stage, know the age of the players holloway and motson are stunned! oh dear... for wreckless challenges it makes not odds if he is 50 or 15...
Legod Third Coming Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 How can you say he took the ball!! He landed on the guys shin. he kicked the ball frist feck me, you lot want to go off and watch netball poofs
Thedelldays Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Just seen it. Let me put it this way: If that was a Man U player, I would have been screaming for a red card. i think that is the crux of it..... and we all know it..
trousers Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 http://www.atdhe.net/live-tv-2015.html Further behind and in French, but works. Cheers!
JustMike Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Just seen it. Let me put it this way: If that was a Man U player, I would have been screaming for a red card. which would not have come
trousers Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Get Le Tissier out of the stands for the second half
Thedelldays Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 which would not have come but you would have said riley favored utd if it had..and you would have wanted a red...
Arizona Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 of course it has refs know the stage, know the age of the players holloway and motson are stunned! If Saints chose to play a team of kindergarteners, they've got to accept the consequences and can't expect any special treatment. There is no reason why a 17 year old should get away with murder, whilst a 35 year gets a red card. That was a dangerous tackle and deserved a red. Bit harder and he could have broken Vidic's leg. P.S. Good to here "we're the Itchen" again.
John B Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 And another excellent tackle from Skacel on Nani. Perry, Davis and Skacel keeping us in the game. I'm sure those three have something in common, but I'm not sure what... :-k I think they are in the defence
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 which would not have come I agree with you there. No doubt Riley would have told the player to calm down and have given him a booking.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Anyone up for going to the ground and assaulting the ref?
JustMike Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 but you would have said riley favored utd if it had..and you would have wanted a red... no, because i dont think it justified a straight red
Flyer Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 it deserved a red.. In todays climate where every foul and even non foul is a yellow. But really that is a classic example of what should really be a yellow as he didnt mean to get him.
Thedelldays Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 no, because i dont think it justified a straight red lol im sure you would have said that...
JustMike Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 In todays climate where every foul and even non foul is a yellow. But really that is a classic example of what should really be a yellow as he didnt mean to get him. exactly
Kadeem Hardison Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Definitely a red card. What annoys me is that it wouldn't have been given if it had been the othe way around.
Thedelldays Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 well...we are about to see how dangerours it is or is not in a mo....
Steel City Saint Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 I agree with you there. No doubt Riley would have told the player to calm down and have given him a booking. I suspect you are right but would you have felt hard done by, I know I would have.
Ponty Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 1-0 down to an offside goal at half-time... Better than expected, it's fair to say.
John B Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 oh dear... for wreckless challenges it makes not odds if he is 50 or 15... Yes it was a bad tackle but probably the ref was right
Edmonton Saint Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 I didnt think it was a red, he got the ball first, then momentum carried him through onto Vidic
Leicestersaint Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 That certainly did not warrant a straight red card - he kicked the ball first. Motson clearly doesn't think it should have been a red.
Arizona Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Anyone up for going to the ground and assaulting the ref? Why, should he have been marking Nani for the goal?
Micky Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Red or Yellow - you have to also take into account that somebody is also assessing Mike Rileys performance as well. It looked a rash, poorly timed tackle - a red for me.
Leicestersaint Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 I must say that Riley has always been against Saints - a truly dreadful referee who basically wants to be the centre of attention..
Legod Third Coming Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Anyone up for going to the ground and assaulting the ref? I'm with you. Give me ten minutes and we'll have his registration number
trousers Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 1-0 down to an offside goal at half-time... Better than expected, it's fair to say. Indeed. Everyone's too busy debating the borderline red card when we're only 1 nil down to the world club champions. I can be one of the biggest sceptics but we're not out of this yet!
JustMike Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Did well for quite a while, but needed luck with 11 men. Game over now which is a shame. Seems the days of referees showing some leniency and appreciating a "strikers challenge" are over. Understand they'll get punished if they don't produce the red, but it never used to be like that. Not only more physical, but there was a bit of common sense when it came to an over-zealous kid, especially a striker. Recall Rooney making many such challenges in his early career and getting warnings or yellows. Now it's just red. Oh well. No shame in losing any amount to the best team in the world with 10 men. Just wish we'd been able to put out our best team. No Holmes, Lallana or Morgan. That's pretty much our attack gone. yes and is Lallana not there for any other reason other than "injured"? im dreading the next few weeks, we could well find ourselves even more in the ****e
badgerx16 Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 That certainly did not warrant a straight red card - he kicked the ball first. If you make a reckless challenge, taking the ball first, ( by a fraction of a second ), but knowing that momentum will take your studs straight into the opponents shin, then the intent is clear and should be punished. What it he'd caught the players leg side on and broke it, what then ?

Yate Saint Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 We need to get some wing action. Neville has no pace. Also we need to clobber Berbatov as he will cry. COME ON YOU SAINTS. Lets hope for a better second half.
Wildgoose Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Alan Mullery just said on Sky sports that the crowd were booing the team and he couldn't understand it.........flip, how unaware can you get!!!!!!! No understanding that they're booing the ref......
Legod Third Coming Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 conclusive. my mate doing the commentary here just said C'nest pas un carte rouge. La referee et un mastabatuer magnifique... the defence rests
Mr X Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 The referee could have used common sense and just issued a yellow and a severe warning. Ruined a young lads big day and for the rest of the fans
Thedelldays Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 jesus christ lunging down the shin of the player...how is that NOT a red.. bith feet well off the groung....!!!!
Window Cleaner Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 If you make a reckless challenge, taking the ball first, ( by a fraction of a second ), but knowing that momentum will take your studs straight into the opponents shin, then the intent is clear and should be punished. What it he'd caught the players leg side on and broke it, what then ? Looked like a definite red, but so did the foul by Evans on McGoldrick, McG was past him and away on goal. Pity we can't defend on corners. Gillett is garbage.
Wes Tender Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Old Mother Riley strikes again. The biggest girl's blouse on the refereeing circuit. I saw several replays and Paterson clearly got to the ball. But still, we're not doing badly with 10 men
Arizona Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 I'd put Molyneux on for Smith and go for something like. Davis James Perry Lancashire Molyneux Gillett Surman Gobern Skacel DMG
Legod Third Coming Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 jesus christ lunging down the shin of the player...how is that NOT a red.. his foot was up aiming for the ball ffs, are you a ballerina?
badgerx16 Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Pity we can't defend on corners. /quote] Pity the lino didn't spot the offside player stood in front of KD
Thedelldays Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 his foot was up aiming for the ball ffs, are you a ballerina? lol :yawinkle:
badgerx16 Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 his foot was up aiming for the ball Which one ?
