LGTL Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Looking forward to this one. They have so many injuries and are, on the whole, pretty terrible. We'd better win because I work in Bournemouth and it'll be hell otherwise. Stek Cedric Van Djik Fonte Bertrand Wanyama Davis Clasie Mane Tadic Pelle
corky morris Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Team picks itself......................................
Sour Mash Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 How much of a strong line up did they play last night?
Saint Charlie Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Team picks itself...................................... Indeed. Key is to stop Ritchie getting good sights of goal on his left foot. Also realising that they will be bang up for it and despite what the belittlers say, it isn't just another game, there is an added spice which the players will need to be expecting. Fast start ideal as they have conceded a lot of late.
Sour Mash Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Plenty of seats left in the Chapel, can't see this one selling out.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 They have the ability to cause any team problems because of the way they play so gung-ho and overload the attack at every chance. They don't play in a very controlled manner and we should be ok as long as we play incisively in the final third as there will be plenty of space for us to exploit presuming they don't change their tactics.
Toadhall Saint Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Plenty of seats left in the Chapel, can't see this one selling out. Tickets available was announced in the stadium last night
Saint_Ash Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Plenty of seats left in the Chapel, can't see this one selling out. It should sell out, it's the closest we have now for a derby. If it doesn't sell out it will be a poor show.
spyinthesky Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Heard last night that the police are taking a bit more interest in this game due to 'intelligence' from the Bournemouth end. Hope this is not the case but an idea to be cautious for those who don't want to be caught up in any disturbance
suewhistle Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 It's also on Sky I think Plus it's on a Sunday which must impact people in different ways. For those who are vital members of their Sunday side they may have to miss it. I'm nowhere near vital and we've got a big enough squad so I'll be at St. Marys..
JRM Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 How much of a strong line up did they play last night? from the BBC report - "Howe made six changes to the team that started Sunday's 5-1 home defeat by Spurs - and admitted only several injuries and the unavailability of loan players stopped him making more." AFC Bournemouth 23 Federici 15 Smith 02 Francis 25 Distin 11 Daniels 08 Arter (King - 71' ) 16 MacDonald Booked 19 Stanislas (Rantie - 82' ) 30 Ritchie 18 Kermorgant (Tomlin - 71' ) 07 Pugh Substitutes 03 Cook 09 Rantie 17 King 21 Allsop 24 Tomlin 32 O'Kane 38 Cargill just had a quick look on the ticket website, there about about 450 / 500 tickets left for this mostly towards the back of the Chapel stand. Reminds me of the Man United game which was also a Cat A sunday televised game on restricted sale to people who have purchased since start of 12/13 season, i am told that season ticket holders cannot buy extra seats, if that is the case it probably slows ticket sales. will be interesting to see if Boruc features for them on Sunday.
Chez Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 It should sell out, it's the closest we have now for a derby. If it doesn't sell out it will be a poor show. maybe the tickets are too expensive? £47 for my seat raised an eyebrow.
doddisalegend Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 It should sell out, it's the closest we have now for a derby. If it doesn't sell out it will be a poor show. To many saints fans desperately trying to play it down as a nothing game to sell out. Personally I'm up for it the games in league 1 were good fun and until Pompey (if they ever) get themselves sorted out this might be the closest thing to a derby we see at SMS in years.
doddisalegend Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Heard last night that the police are taking a bit more interest in this game due to 'intelligence' from the Bournemouth end. Hope this is not the case but an idea to be cautious for those who don't want to be caught up in any disturbance I remember in league 1 Bournemouth coming to town saw the biggest police presence at Southampton central I'd seen in a while. They even marched the Bournemouth fans to and from the station with a police escort ?
SotonCherries Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 From our point of view, it's the worst timing for this game to come around, and so from your view the best timing? Due to a mixture of 5 key injuries, moral sapping defeats to good opposition, and utterly daft errors in the process, we have little idea what our best 11 is or what formation to play. Even as fundamental as which goalkeeper to start? Surprised it's category A for you guys and costing us an arm and a leg, but guess you want to make your money from a sold out away end, can't argue with that. We'll do our best to enjoy and have a laugh around Southampton for the day. But fear Saints will waltz to a comfortable victory in the actual match.

Please tell me you guys are going to start with Boruc being a 4pm kick off should give him plenty of time to get over the night before...which he clearly hadn't against spurs ?
RedWillie Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Must have taken ages with all the Boscombe Zimmer frames?

Saint Garrett Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Think the club have made a bit of a f*ck up calling this one a category A, yes they're geographically pretty close, but there just isn't the spice there from our end - with the addition of it being on TV i'd be surprised if it's a sellout.
The9 Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 It should sell out, it's the closest we have now for a derby. If it doesn't sell out it will be a poor show. It's £42 cheapest ticket to watch a glorified Championship side who most Saints fans aren't particularly bothered by. We just about sold out against Villa last night charging £15 each! Tell the players it's vital, let the rest of us not be any more bothered than we are about beating the likes of Sunderland.
Sour Mash Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 It should sell out, it's the closest we have now for a derby. If it doesn't sell out it will be a poor show. The thing is, for the other category A games that we have there are usually a fair number of football tourists that may have an interest in Saints, but are attracted by watching Arsenal, man City etc. Bournemouth just doesn't have the same draw for these people.

Exactly that - plus Sunday, tv, weather, and a bunch of other part-timer excuses. The Cat A thing is a bit silly, frankly.
lickierambert Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Mane vs Distin should be worth the entrance fee alone. Let's be honest, they are a very average side, severely weakened and low on confidence. Anything but a win would be a really poor result
Batman Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 good to know that Fonte Bertrand Cedric Clasie Davis Tadic Mane will all be nice and fresh for this one. be amazed if we do not win. they are finding it very hard and we are pretty good now. 3-1 to saints IMO

Toadhall Saint Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Mane vs Distin should be worth the entrance fee alone. Let's be honest, they are a very average side, severely weakened and low on confidence. Anything but a win would be a really poor result I expect a home win whenever we play at home but I get your meaning. As to Mane v's Distin, that will be entertaining. Mind you I think Pelle will keep Distin "busy" as well.
Saint Garrett Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Stek Cedric Fonte VVD Bertrand Wanyama JWP Davis Tadic Pelle Mane Expect Clasie to start though. Is there any chance of Long/JRod making the bench ?
Pamplemousse Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 This could end up 6, 7 or 8-0 if we're bang on form.
Saint Garrett Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 This could end up 6, 7 or 8-0 if we're bang on form. Will be a tough game I think, a lot harder than people are saying on here - wouldn't be surprised if they have lots of possession. Would be a different game if Wilson was fit IMO, really good player.
simondo Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 it would be quite funny to have collection buckets for AFC Bournemouth around the place at the game just to remind them of their debt to SFC... i for one,put a fair few quid into saving them back in the day
Dalek2003 Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Don't underestimate Bournemouth, they gave Liverpool a good game. Play high tempo and nothing to lose.
bjk Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Judging by a lot of the comments on this thread this all points to an away win.
Toomer Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 I'm surprised the OB did not want to make this a bubble match.
The Cat Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Massive game for those who live in the crossover catchment areas of New Milton and nearby, less so for everyone else. This could be a lot closer than many think. I'm going for 10-0 Saints.
The9 Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 This could be a lot closer than many think. I'm going for 10-0 Saints. Nicely played.
iansums Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Huge game for me, living in Highcliffe and working in Poole, can't bear the thought of a defeat.
The9 Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Same for Birmingham based Saints against Villa, Cardiff Saints when we played Cardiff - etc. That's no different to anywhere else, apart from Bournemouth being a bit closer.
Saint Charlie Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 I'm sure as this is the modern day Boruc will get lots of booing towards him, but for me he should get a decent reception. Was a good keeper in some of our best PL years ever. No hard feeling at him wanting to leave when we so clearly labelled Forster as the no1 no matter what.

More chance of getting boo'd by his own supporters I think!
Leicestersaint Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Could be closer than many seem to think.
Roger Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Stek Cedric Fonte VVD Bertrand Wanyama JWP Davis Tadic Pelle Mane Expect Clasie to start though. Is there any chance of Long/JRod making the bench ? Why jwp he's just not up to it.

Was a good keeper in some of our best PL years ever. No hard feeling at him wanting to leave when we so clearly labelled Forster as the no1 no matter what. Boruc being the keeper you wanted to keep because he was so good but that now makes Kelvin Davies look like a top PL keeper with his almost weekly goal keeping errors. No need for saints fans to boo him. He will probably get cheered by us for trying to nutmeg Mane and ...................failing badly leading to a comedy goal for us
simo Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Huge game for me, living in Highcliffe and working in Poole, can't bear the thought of a defeat. I'm in Highcliffe too now but still have the pleasure of working in Pompy
fish fingers Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Massive game for those who live in the crossover catchment areas of New Milton and nearby, less so for everyone else. . Indeed it is, I'm surrounded by their new fans in Christchurch and work with a load of them in Bournemouth. All United and Chelsea fans until last season.
positivepete Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 I remember watching Boruc playing for Poland against Northern Ireland during his Celtic days. He got huge amounts of abuse and had a complete meltdown. Couldn't happen again could it?
The9 Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Why jwp he's just not up to it. He's looked pretty decent playing (theoretically) alongside Wanyama and doing a lot of the shuttling and ball-carrying between defence and midfield, probably the first time he seems to have found his role for Saints. We certainly shouldn't need Wanyama/Romeu double-DM lockdown against a side in the bottom 4 - though it did work even in front of a much weaker back 4 last night and we still scored. I think I'd probably pick Clasie though, he has to get as much game time as possible in matches we should win anyway*. *learned that one from Jamie Carragher.
Appy Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Would be weird for us to boo Boruc, why would they?
Dark Munster Posted 29 October, 2015 Posted 29 October, 2015 Boruc being the keeper you wanted to keep because he was so good but that now makes Kelvin Davies look like a top PL keeper with his almost weekly goal keeping errors. We all know of his capabilities (good and bad). I'm sure he'll be pumped up for this game. 8-0 would be nice, but I'll be happy with a 1-0.
