Naa there were plenty of covering players all around him. A red would've 100% been rescinded anyway.

Fair enough, like I said, haven't seen it back, was just aware that he was near the penalty spot and (theoretically) about to shoot.

Mmm...maybe we saw the game from another perspective. You were lucky enough to go to the game I expect, whereas I watched a streamed link with 6 following replays.

I have noticed that we don't always share the same opinion " 9 " - you and CB Fry are my favourite critics. Would be a boring world if we all thought the same though.

Fight fight fight. Oh hang on... Erm, ok then. :)

Can everyone in the Itchen North not keep singing 'you're f*cking sh*t' every 30 seconds or 'you're going down'. Would be much appreciated. Pathetic support last night.

It's obvious why isn't it? It was different people to who usually go to league games as it was cheap prices. But bad support is the downside of the sell out and letting kids in but the pros massively outweigh cons and we are growing fan base.

Agree Tadic made a big impact when he came on (as did Davis) but are there really many on here who think he's awful? He one of our most creative players.

The game itself was tedious first half with a flat atmosphere but two decent goals in the second half made up for it. I thought the team selection was a bit of a risk but lucky Villa are woeful.

You're entirely fair to pull me up on this - I don't normally rise to the bait from individual posters but after the Liverpool game I saw someone describe him as perpetually awful and have noticed posts (maybe the same person) being overtly negative when he either hasn't been bad or hasn't been the only one. He was one of our weaker performers at Anfield, but still carried a threat, and for someone to make out he hasn't played well at all recently really irked me!

But somehow, bizarrely, those songs have become our most popular, the only ones that got going last night, that's nothing to do with lots of kids in.

Are you sure? I was only listening last night but my understanding was that Davis and Ramirez were never on the pitch together. It was a great pass from Davis to Tadic for our second though.

My goals app on my phone said our first was a JWP assist, clearly it wasn't from the highlights on Sky.

Think it was actually Romeu for the first. But certainly not a Villa misplaced pass.

Thought the game was dull and slow in the first half. The atmosphere was poor even the PA was quiet.

We were better 2nd half with some very nice goals.

Targett was good, both CBs were good. Tadic and Davis were a level above when they came on.

Looked like a very dodgy decision for their penalty. Would like to see that again.

Lots of changes and the obvious lack of pace up top was painful to see.

Hey ho. We won

I thought Target looked poor, especially in the first half. There was a 30 second period early on when he failed to clear properly and gave the ball straight back to Villa about three times in a row. Better opposition would have punished us. The Bacuna chance came from him getting the run around. His crossing, certainly in the first half was terrible. Like the side as a whole there was some improvement in the second half (keeping the ball better and slightly better crossing), but overall I was far from impressed. I certainly wouldn't say he was good. In his defence its not easy coming into a side for the odd game. You need to get into a rhythm and get your confidence up. Personally I think the first team action has come a little early for him. I don't think he is quite ready yet. Having said that, it's nice to have another youngster coming through.

Doesn't explain singing it to Leicester all game the other week? A team who are above us. It's a shame but as a fanbase we don't deserve the relative success we're getting. We are w*nk at supporting the team.

At home we aren't great unless there's a game ie Spurs that is big time I agree. However, at Chelsea our support was amazing. But st marys has got quieter over the years God knows why.

I put the ever worsening atmospheres down to the fact many (not all of course) beer drinking lads that are happy to shout and sing all game have been replaced by less intoxicated fans that are more reserved.

Targett played a lot of games early season and I would say he steadily improved as he played more regularly and he looked much more comfortable in the team just before Bertrand returned. Of course since Ryan came back he hasn't really played and it showed last night.

All game? more like a couple of times when we were two goals up and we got it back in spades when we threw the lead away.

Pretty much all fans of all PL clubs are the same these days everyone has the same songs/chants ( with subtle changes for each club) there is little or no originality. Almost every team has better away support than home support to due to the PL tourist effect.

I think its lots of reasons but mainly

1. People have got less tribal. They travel and move around more and are less sure their home city is the mightiest in the world.

2. Its less of a special occasion so less exciting. At one time going to see Saints was the best and only football you'd see all week. Now you can watch games from around the world 24/7.

The main problem with Targett isn't that he's not good enough, IMO - he showed in the handful of games he played last season that he can do it. The issue is that pretty much every game he's played this season has been in a game where we've either gone with a really weird formation (Newcastle, Everton) or where he's in a lineup that is rusty (last night). The common theme with all of those games is that he has been left completely exposed against the opposition wide players because either there was nobody in front of him to offer protection or because the player who actually is in front of him isn't used to offering that sort of support. If he's got 2 players running at him, he can't win - he either goes to the ball and leaves the easy pass to the other player open, or he backs off and allows a cross into the box. There's no right option to pick there, half-decent players will get past him either way.

Before the game had even started we were singing it to them. People jumping up and down clapping like seals singing it too. Most of our support are 'LADbible' and soccer AM banter types. We have no songs and don't get behind the team when the going gets tough. We don't deserve a top half team fighting for cups and Europe.

Better than a group at the top of the Kingsland/Northam corner who want to sing about Pompey every 2 minutes. So boring.

Hmmm......seem to be more people upset about the team selection than there were about celebrating the win.

Mhmm, I was going to comment on this, but it's the usual suspects, so whatever.

Personally, I can't see what there is to gripe about. Had we lost, fair enough, fill your boots, but as it transpired, Koeman's faith in his squad players (a number of whom he's personally signed - well, he's authorised their transfers) was completely justified in the context of last night's game. It's almost as if you have to remind people that we won, fairly comfortably too.

I watched that earlier and surely Pelle was onside when he broke clear through onto the pass by Juanmi?

Looked level to me, so yes he was onside. Tight call though. I don't really mind calls that close going either way tbh but the pen shout was laughable imo. Villa player was about to shoot so it was an excellent tackle by VVD.

has anyone seen a replay of the penalty.

It looked like a cracking tackle from where I was.

Yeah, looked a perfect tackle from where I was as well. The only footage I've seen is from the normal TV angle in real-time - could do with a different angle and slow-motion, which I suppose shows that decisions like that aren't always obvious from every angle.

The problem with that Pelle offside was that Pelle went flat out when he was in enough space that he didn't have to. Left no room for even a slightly delayed pass or a linesman misjudgement. If he'd just dropped to 3/4 pace to stay onside and then gone flat out when the ball was played he'd have been ok. Usually I'd say "curve the run" but that wasn't possible in this situation as he was a couple of yards onside to begin with and wouldn't have got to the ball if he'd gone sideways. Impressive acceleration for a big man though (cos, y'know, Linford Christie wasn't tall or anything :D).

I thought Villa's away support was very good all things considered.

It was, well until we scored, although by the sound of a few songs it may have been a first away trip since the 80s for some.

We were sat in the Itchen corp seats for a change last night, STs in the Kingsland-North normally, and you get to see how poor the home support is from there. From where we were sat you can't hear the Itchen North at all and the Northam just sounds like a bunch of quiet schoolboys compared to similar numbers in the away bit. Villa were loud, belting songs out at the top of their lungs, ours don't seem to actually raise their voices. I can also confirm anything south of the halfway line barely stir, a few clap along when OWTS gets going (and drowned out by Villa doing their version) but little or no singing. It's all very polite.

Which set of fans are deserving? Arsenal? Liverpool? Spurs? West Ham? Swansea? People jumping up and down and clapping? oh no! Jeez. Get over yourself Griffo.

So, so much this. It's been rare for him to slot into a side where the other 10 players are settled picks.

I'd quite like to see him have the confidence to take on an opposition full back - he never seems to. Though having said that, Clyne mostly stopped doing so at least a year before he left, leaving me to wonder whether our full backs are instructed to take fewer risks now.

Thought Taregtt was alright defensively.

but as others pont out, his crossing was pretty poor.

decent back up is about it at the mo.

One thing is fure sure, how much better did davis and tadic look compared to the fringe players when they came on.

it was like "cheers lads, we've got this"

I don't have a problem with 'jumping down and clapping' but doing so when singing 'you're f*cking sh*t' is a weird thing to get excited about. BANTER ain't it. So small time.

It happens at most clubs.

Don't get me wrong, it's not my cup of tea either but to claim that because some fans sing moronic songs:"We don't deserve a top half team fighting for cups and Europe"? Come on! Uber ultra fan alert!

When Yoshida scored and our fans started singing his name to 7 Nation Army (yawn) I turned to my son and remarked that it was ridiculous that we now sing the same song for 3 players.

The old couple in front turned around and grumpily asked me why it matters. I thought about engaging them in a long dialogue about fan culture but decided the easiest way to sort it was just to punch them instead.

Anyone notice the programme was smaller last night but still cost £4.

Liebherr out.

More pages and compact format it was spun as on the OS. I actually asked if it was still £4, not that I ever buy one. Fairly sure a lot of people are not buying one just because of the ridiculous size of the thing, it's a pain in the backside to carry around.

Better than singing the "f**king s**t" song at him.
