Will do nicely, upwards and onwards! Quite pleased with the strength in squad depth on show tonight, despite certain posters saying we had a weaker squad than when we lost to sunderland under poch... :mcinnes:

that was one poster tbf lol

job done. gonna give stekelenburg motm for consistency and confidence he gave the back 4. now to watch the draw :D

Very happy to get through to the next round, but annoyed that we seemed to switch off to allow them the chance to get a goal back.

Thought the goals were beauties. Great to see Juanmi putting so much effort into his game, enjoyed watching Romeu as well. Tadic was class when he came on, but thought Victor was half asleep and didn't have a great game tonight. Now for a beer :D

Yoshida is my MOTM. Was brilliant start to finish. Not just his goal, he was just outstanding all evening and it's even more amazing when you consider how sh1te he is at RB usually.

Stek, Targett, Pelle and JWP also good.

Ramirez showed promise but I think it's too little too late for him.

Wanyama was cack.

Juanmi looked quite lively at first but then faded away.

What's happened to Martina? Is he not even our second choice RB now?

Thought we were pretty poor first half. Villa were too but we looked like we would let them in on the break, we weren't using the ball well. Played some lovely stuff second half though. Yoshida getting into nosebleed territory then slamming it in the bottom corner, and Pelle's goal was a beauty. Great assist from Tadic.

Decent win but Villa at home was probably the easiest draw going. The championship sides left in at least have some form and a bit of a buzz going on around them. Got to play better next round. Boro at home please.

Overall I thought Targett had a decent game tonight, right up until stoppage time when he got brushed aside far too easily by the Villa player to burst into the box and win the penalty (whch looked pretty harsh on VVD to me anyway).

Decent enough performance to see off a dreadful team. Good to see Ramirez get another assist. Regardless of what his motivations are, I think he could make a decent contribution this season.

Two lovely goals as well.

First half dire.

Second better.

From now to progress we need to pick our strongest team, Villa luckily were ****e.

Tadic and Davis made a massive difference when they came on.

Ramirez was decent, Juanmi looks like an off the shoulder striker rather than creative player.

JWP extremely ineffective and surely the experiment of him being a no10 should be over by now?!

Saints were shocking in the first half. Second to every ball, with Villa running the midfield.

Targett is useless, yes he made a few good blocks but he offers nothing going forward. He is never interested in looking for the overlap, although it wasn't helped by Juanmi being terrible too.

Gaston offered very little, although improved in the first 15 minutes of the second half.

Didn't think Wanyama was that bad, thought he was neat on the ball, as well as JWP. Overall, Saints lacked any energy going forward in the first half, but slightly improved in the second half which was just enough to get past a poor Villa side.

Players who aren't good enough at the moment are Targett, Juanmi & Ramirez. We need better backups than these if we are looking for improved squad depth.

That's rubbish, we weren't shocking. Both teams were poor but it was pretty even (and dull!)

Ward prowse was just pure rubbish IMO.

Slow first half but despite a few half chances they never caused us problems. Koeman obviously had a word at half time and second half was much better. Our class showed in the end and the subs made us much stronger.

One thing I noted is that Agbonlahor looks like he's been on the balti pies, he was struggling to outrun Caulker.

Couldn't agree more.

Also agree.

Definitely in no way a no10, especially when supporting a striker with no pace.

Same issue as always with JWP, good technique but fills a space rather than ever really adding to the performance.

Will he ever kick on? Is quite an experienced player for his age, but his obvious limitations, mostly physical, hold him back a lot.

Targett also lacks that yard which will sustain him as a PL player, offers next to nothing going forward and susceptible to anyone with pace going forward.

Agree that he shouldn't be playing behind Pelle. Either out wide, crossing for Pelle or behind a quick striker. He's been fairly good on the whole this season though.

Fairly good at what? Keeping possession (mostly passing back to the person who passed to him) and putting in good set plays.

But in his position as the more advanced player you need more than that to stay in the side IMO.

As he offers little defensively, if he also offers little going forward despite playing in an advanced position then his role is what exactly?

????? I'll be happy if he's that rubbish in our next game.

Can't recall a single creative pass, good run, shot, tackle, interception myself.

He has good technique but just never influences games from open play.

Game of opinions. Davis miles better suited to that more advanced role. Noticeable we were miles better when he came on.

Was okay against Norwich and second half vs Chelsea but other than that I've seen no sign of any improvement at all.

Why doesn't RK play Tadic on the left all the time? Proves every time he plays there that this is most effective position.

JWP is poor in central midfield and particular behind the striker.... He was ok out on the right but hasn't been there since?

Ramirez on the other hand is best behind the striker but gets put out on the right????? Wtf? Little surprise that both were ineffective .....

We gave away the pen because we stand off wingers and do not engage them. This is glaring Tadic is the worst offender but the others repeat this and just allow the player to either cross or run with the ball at our pen area. We gave away the goal at Liverpool by giving the wide player acres to cross the ball in with no closing......

ENGAGE the player don't watch them....

First half we we pretty dire, Pelle was on holiday for God's sake.... Second was slightly better. Villa were very poor mind....

Who was our new right back tonight? He looked decent!!!! ;-)

You cant recall it cos it didnt happen. The only time he didnt give it away was when he passed 5yards backwards. Lost for words on how bad he actually was.

Crap game, crap atmosphere, job done.

Why play Wanyama and Romeu against Villa at home?

And did Pellè and Wanyama really need to play the full 90?

It was kids and new people who don't usually go which was why it was quiet but don't we need to grow our fanbase?
