Got talking to someone about the best penalty saver at our club and it seems to him that Kelvin Davis has the best record.

Anyone else agree or have I missed someone who could normally stop them hitting our own net.

Statistically, I would assume Davis has made the most penalty saves as a Saints keeper, but part of that will naturally be down to the number of games he's played for us. It would be interesting to see if the "penalties saved vs penalties faced" ratio is available somewhere.

He's also played more games against worse players... don't make me post those stat links about penalties not being a lottery again. :)

Shilton?

Not sure that he ever saved one. There was a goalie (Eric Martin?) who saved two in one game (might have been a retaken one - I can't trust my memory) against QPR many moons ago.

QPR. 19/1/74. 2-2 draw.

The twice taken penalty was missed by our old friend, Terry Venables.

Bart saved one in the 6-0 at Molly, which might be the only pen he faced for us but I'm not sure on that.

Don't forget the epic JPT shootout against Norwich! He saved 2 or 3 that night - sublime

Good shout, I'd forgotten that until you reminded me, pulled off a proper Banks/Pele for one of them.

You are good! Was it Eric Martin?

Terry Genoe saved one at Everton 1978, between then and the LC Final we thought Lawrie had unearthed a gem , but it all crashed pretty quickly after that.

Shilts was crap at penalties as I seem to remember

He was probably ok at them before Italia '90 when he was knocking 40, but he was diabolical at them there.

Kelvins penalty saving record during our rise back up the leagues was unbelievable. There was a period when he seemed to save almost every one. Less talented takers than in the top flight of course, but still outstanding.

Remember Campbell Forsyth saving one against Liverpool in 1967, almost exactly a year after breaking his leg in the same fixture.

Might have been his only one, but hey, quality not quantity, right?

Neil Moss made a cracking penalty save away to Sunderland against a certain Kevin Philips I believe?!

was it Neil Moss who saved the penalty against 'Boro and Ravenelli? If I recall this game was also notable for the injury to Robbie Slater and the introduction of Matt Oakley who had a stuuning match
