yellow&blue Posted 28 October, 2015 Share Posted 28 October, 2015 No sympathy whatsoever. He says that he preferred City because of their youth system and he quoted Micah Richards and Shaun Wright-Phillips as an example. Such a long prestigious list of players there compared to our youth system. Just goes to show that teams like City will never bring through youth players from their academy, they may as well ditch it completely. All they will do now is buy players till they are no good to them, sell them on and replace them with the next star player. And also leave the likes of us to produce our own and try and steal them when they are good enough. To me, City are like "Chsmpionship Manager on Cheat Mode" and will always be. david in sweden Posted 28 October, 2015 Share Posted 28 October, 2015 I'm sure there are a few other " rising stars " in other Prem. clubs who might have made the same comment. I watched Devante Cole play in an U16? / U17 ? game for England some years ago and he looked a good prospect, the most he can hope for at Citeh, is a place on the bench - when there are half-a-dozen regulars out injured. He sounds as though he is regretting the move, but there may yet be a twist in the tail on this story.
Patrick Bateman Posted 28 October, 2015 Share Posted 28 October, 2015 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3292432/Devante-Cole-joined-Southampton-Manchester-City-don-t-care-English-kids.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490 He comes across as a bitter and twisted individual and I'm glad he didn't come to us at 16 with his billy big b*llocks attitude. He "chose" Man City rather than Man Utd because they'd brought through Micah Richards and Shaun Wright-Phillips. While Man Utd have brought absolutely no players through their youth system have they? More likely they didn't want him then.
scotty Posted 28 October, 2015 Share Posted 28 October, 2015 It's no bad thing to hear that type of player expressing such a sentiment. (That said, to be honest, I'd never heard of him until two minutes ago.)
Batman Posted 28 October, 2015 Share Posted 28 October, 2015 never heard of him until now. guess he thought he would succeed at city. Must have thought he was the business. but to use Richards and SWP as an example is quite laughable

Can only echo Scotty otherwise, good that we are being mentioned in this regard, whether we could now be the right platform for that kind of development is now another issue. I have my doubts. Daft Kerplunk Posted 28 October, 2015 Share Posted 28 October, 2015 This statement is no bad thing when it comes to other young players looking at their development pathway
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 28 October, 2015 Share Posted 28 October, 2015 Good PR for Saints but I'm not so sure Man City fans will be bothered about losing a player who now plays in League 1. Although it is crunch time for Man City and their Academy - it's had a lot of lip service the past few years and now they need to show the bottle to give these players games and a pathway to the first team. Saint Charlie Posted 28 October, 2015 Share Posted 28 October, 2015 http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2015/oct/24/manchester-city-united-youth-policy This I thought was very interesting on the City Academy. Obviously gathering a lot of good players, and many from the area. Whether they are good enough City is a different issue, but some of those results are eye-catching. eelpie Posted 28 October, 2015 Share Posted 28 October, 2015 Youngsters in all clubs' academies are finding it more difficult to get playing opportunities, even here. Tonight we want to win and progress in the cup, so it will be revealing how many of our academy stars can be part of that when we need to give game time to our fringe players. the_emu Posted 28 October, 2015 Share Posted 28 October, 2015 He regularly clashed with Patrick Vieira... He may or may not be talented on the pitch but his character profile wouldn't have fit.
corky morris Posted 28 October, 2015 Share Posted 28 October, 2015 Ive got a bit of experience with both academies & their sole purpose is to get one player a year from there at best. They want another Messi & sell it to parents as always getting another chance once if you've been at Utd or City & let go. I would rather my kids at Saints & I don't live anywhere near. Mind you, the arrogance of some of these kids is beyond belief. Some coaches even look for it & encourage it. Actually worse I have seen is at Crewe!! I have seen this lad play a couple of times & wouldn't be at all surprised if he follows the same path as his father.

Saint Fan CaM Posted 28 October, 2015 Share Posted 28 October, 2015 A come and get me plea? Given our Academy is not exactly prolific in bringing through strikers (who would have guessed Bale would be one?!), giving this guy another chance to show his worth might not be a bad idea and he could learn a lot from our current front-line players like Mane, JRod and Long. Verbal Kint Posted 28 October, 2015 Share Posted 28 October, 2015 What really is the point of Man City's academy? To produce decent players who, although not good enough for City as the majority will not be, they can sell on for decent money and put the profits towards their next big money purchase, ensuring they have a better chance of keeping within FFP rules. If they bring one through who ends up being good enough for them then brilliant, if not then it doesn't really matter The same as Chelsea basically

The9 Posted 28 October, 2015 Share Posted 28 October, 2015 What really is the point of Man City's academy? Partially to allow them to spend money on their infrastructure so they can have higher FFP expenditure on wages, and partially to prevent other big clubs recruiting and developing players with potential - if they manage to get one into the first team I'm fairly sure that's an unexpected bonus. When their U21s took ours apart at the end of last season they had one DM whose name escapes me who was FAR better than JWP or Reed, yet he's not even made a first team squad as far as I'm aware. Iheanacho seems to be getting a look in though.
