I know we say this every year but....

Today marks another year gone by since THAT 6-3 win over Man Utd. Still remains to this day remains the best saints game i've ever been to and my most joyful day supporting our great team (wasn't born until 1981 so the 76 cup final was before my time). That crazy last 5 minutes will forever live in my memory when we carved utd open and went 4,5,6 against a genuinely world class side, even though they were down to 10 men. Couldn't believe what I was witnessing. We even had a goal disallowed for a 7th if I remember rightly Berkovic walked the ball in but was offside or something.

If there was anything I could change it would be that i'd have been in the Archers Road end for this game, didn't start getting tickets there until i was a bit older.

I'm pretty sure we had 2 disallowed for offside - including a cracker from a tight angle from Le Tiss.

Brilliant day - not going to go through it all again but ended up in New York New York with the players - was superb.

One of Claus's first games wasn't it?

well ..not quite.

It was his EIGHTH actually, as he wasn't playing at the start of the season, and Saints were trying to construct a reliable back four, and had to cope with injuries and poor form but Claus went on to become one of less than a dozen players (and the only non-Brit).... to play over 400 games for the club.

...that great result really was the highpoint of that season. We advanced to a "heady" 14th place (for 2 whole weeks) ....and spent the rest of the season fighting off relegation.

Ah yes the famous day when man Utd changed shirts.

Which was the year before but the media have got it wrong for so many years I've merged the two games in my head.

Chap showing us around on the tour got it wrong as well. That 3-1 in the same year was probably Merrington's best game (and we were playing 11 men and totally deserved it...)

then Souness quit because "there are no Rupert's in Football" shortly followed by Lawrie Mac, and so it began.

Still, did the Stadium Tour today and it's been a great journey!

Just as well he wasn't here under a Nicola then!

Apart from that scoreline the best bit was the wonderful dribble and chip by MLT. Pure class.

I thought we played better in the 3-1 game .

One thing I remember about the 6-3 was a discussion in the pub beforehand , where we all agreed that we couldn't have picked a worse time to play utd as they'd lost by 5 at Newcastle the week before . Never in a million years did we think we'd top that .

Which is why I took a late decision and went to France for the week and had to spend the afternoon driving round trying to get Radio 5 or the World Service on the car radio.

I played football that afternoon, kicked off at 2pm and eventually got to my grandparents' house just before the final whistle at The Dell.

I heard the latest score on the radio in their lounge and jumped around like a maniac, in doing so accidentally smashing a load of cassette boxes I'd just put on the floor next to the stereo. :D
