Sherwood Sacked

He's an absolute joke - 10 minutes at Spurs inheriting someone else's team, refuses all kinds of offers that were all above his level thanks to a ridiculous sense of self-importance, inherits a side which Paul Lambert had made absolutely awfully negative and which literally ANYONE could have improved just by letting them not defend every second of every match with 11 men, and took him 6 months to make them actually worse at winning matches.

We'd have stuffed them with Sherwood in charge, and assuming they don't appoint someone before Wednesday we'll beat them comfortably without him. Even if they get someone in we should still have enough for them.

The 6-1 last season was almost entirely down to Sherwood tactics. Pressing a high line with Mane and Long on the pitch. Mental.

Not to mention Vlaar for them... to resolve that he signed Richards, who no-one in the Prem has touched with a bargepole because they all know he can't take instruction.

Absolutely. Me and my lad spotted it almost immediately and so did everyone else in the ground except him I imagine.

I would think that QPR, Norwich and WBA all feel they've dodged a bullet after his high-handed and public rejections of them - Tim is a Tottenham Legend, don't ya know and above your quaint little clubs - although not entirely sure all those clubs even wanted him before his people started going to the press to rule him out.

One good thing about Sunderland winning today is that it locks Sherwood's Villa as dead, dead bottom after 10 games. A total, utter failure. Couldn't have happened to a bigger ****.

Won't be getting a Prem job for a while now.

....probably won't look to be getting any job for a while. I've just read that his pay-off is around £2 million :p. Good pay-off for such a short time at Villa.

A couple of months in the Med. should get him back on track - and he'll be ready to step up for the next batch of sackings - around New Year.

interesting tell me more

Just something I'd heard from a couple of sources, he's terrible at actually doing what he's told tactically. That's why, despite his obvious physical attributes, he doesn't get called up for England any more (when taking basic instruction in a short space of time and executing it is particularly important) and couldn't get near the City team after they signed Zabaleta. A loan to Fiorentina rather than somewhere domestic last season suggests it's a well-known thing in English coaching circles, and he only got 10 starts for Fiorentina as well as Montella changed to a 3-5-2 - of course this could all be based on hearsay and speculation.

They're in a mess, and it's not like they were massively under performing, they're just a really poor side. Score early and I think they'll fall apart again

This. It isn't merely a case of what's been happening at Newcastle where a big club with a squad full of internationals have massively underachieved thanks to awful management, disastrous tactics and a dreadful atmosphere in the club from the top-down.

Whilst these factors do indeed apply to Villa, their main problem that dwarfs all of the above is that they really do have the weakest squad in the league.

Replace the word "Sherwood" with the word "Redknapp" here, it's hardly a surprise given one of his later managers:

"When Sherwood won, he was lauded for simplifying tactics and rejuvenating under-performing players, but when he lost or was out-thought, he portrayed himself as purely a victim of inherited difficulties."
