hypochondriac Posted 24 October, 2015 Share Posted 24 October, 2015 Rockstone burgers.
The Kraken Posted 24 October, 2015 Share Posted 24 October, 2015 What used to be Chambers is now called Sadler's Brew House & Barbeque, I've only eaten there once but it was decent fare. Rockstone Burgers are pretty immense, to be fair. Or if you fancy something a bit different try Mexigo on London Road; you can eat in there and buy a beer to wash it down with. The pulled pork burrito is pretty lovely (and I still need to learn how they wrap the bloody things like they do).
Shroppie Posted 24 October, 2015 Share Posted 24 October, 2015 The Alex does cheap and cheerful burgers etc, with Sky Sports. Or there's a newish Piri Piri chicken place directly opposite the Giddy Bridge. Not expensive but good. Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk

JRM Posted 24 October, 2015 Share Posted 24 October, 2015 There are actually loads of good options for food and a beer within 20 mins walk of St Marys depending on what sort of thing you are looking for and where you will be arriving from that will help people give you advice. Ocean Village - few places to go , Maritmo lounge does nice burgers. Pitcher and Piano, or the Wetherspoons for cheaper food. Oxford Street - lots of choice for food, bit more expensive. Rockstone / Portswood area Town centre / Bedford Place, Tap Room do good burgers, a few above have given some suggestions as well.

Goatboy Posted 24 October, 2015 Share Posted 24 October, 2015 What has this got to do with anything? You suggested the Rockstone in reply to where to go for pre match food and drinks. As there are a few of us meeting up there already (as usual) for pre match drinks I thought I'd see if you were coming. Do try and keep up old chap. As much as you wish it were true, I don't follow you around. Just seems like a bit of a convoluted way to have a dig tbh. the saint in winchester Posted 24 October, 2015 Share Posted 24 October, 2015 Is the OP 'the artist formerly known as Coxford Lou' or is it a Bompey vistor? If the latter, she/he will want an away hostelry.
Coxford_lou Posted 24 October, 2015 Share Posted 24 October, 2015 Coxy isn't me SIW! I suspect their name comes from surname rather than previous location in my case...

That occurred to me, it's probably a Bournemouth supporter so the best pub for them would be Yates.

In my experience pretty well all pubs accept away fans. Can't think of one that doesn't, and IMO, that's healthy. Colinjb Posted 24 October, 2015 Share Posted 24 October, 2015 I'll give my usual recommendation of 'The Strand.' Quiet, good beer and easy striking distance of the stadium. Perfect.

Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk That's true, but Yates is known as the away pub? Near the station, and I think they tend not to serve home supporters iirc? Sadlers and the Rockstone are run by the same people judging by the name of the company on my bank statement - but The Rockstone was MILES better, I went to Sadlers' launch night and the food platter was a huge disappointment. Mexigo is decent too, though I haven't been for a couple of years. There are a load of pub/restaurant chains Above Bar and up to the Guildhall if "not Spoons but some other chain pub" are what you want. Spitfire is an away pub and was our regular stop until a couple of weeks ago when they stopped showing BT Sport.

True it seems to be exclusively away fans so fine for those who want to stick together. Speaking personally, at away games I prefer places with a mix and good real ale. I usually avoid exclusive away pubs. Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
