Southampton to review striker’s Championship loan

if there was such a huge demand for Sam G. to go out on loan, then the MK Dons manager needs a reality check.

...surely the whole idea is for him to get substantial game time, and not just become another a*se sitting on the Dons bench.

They also signed Maynard who will no doubt be on bigger wages and therefore gets the first chance off the bench imo

Is there any real substance to this story? Apparently it came from the Sun, though there is no evidence of it online.

Sounds like ****-stirring to me. As others have said, the Stephens loan at Middlesbro should be more of a concern, and Turnbull is having a torrid time at Swindon without his old mate (and now no manager).

...and currently sitting out a 3 match ban after being red-carded, I think

Hope I am wrong but think Sam G will struggle to make it at the top level but there is no reason why he can't make a decent living out of football especially as he is still young and should mature and, hopefully, put injury and family tragedy behind him.

Not quite sure why he was played out wide for the U21's but from that position he scored one of the best goals seen at St Mary's against Blackburn last season

Played out wide because we played Seager through the middle - given that Seager is a goal poacher and more of a finisher in the box it's natural that the others get shunted out wide to play as AMs. Personally I think Seager's got no chance at Saints because he doesn't suit the system - though I think he's a good striker, he's not the kind of striker we want. Gallagher is more of an all-rounder but probably not as good a finisher. Then again Seager isn't scoring many from 25 yards into the top corner. FWIW I think McQueen is the one who shows the most "Pelle-style" skills, even playing wide on the left - so maybe we should try him through the middle for a while and see how he does.

If you're not playing, does it matter what level you're not playing at ?

I suppose it depends on how much you are financially accumulating for not playing. Winston Bogarde, Gaston and Tommy Forecast spring to mind.

It matters because the players ahead of you are a measure of your manager's assessment of your ability. If you're sat on the bench at a L2 club you're likely to be worse than if you're sat on the bench at a Premier League club. If they want him to play, I know a L2 club in south Wales who'd have him, guarantee he'd play every match. :D

I'm sure we do want him to play more, but if he isn't cutting it there they're under no obligation to play him are they. They would probably say that they expected more from him and if he'd shown that, he'd be in the side.

If he's not playing and isn't going to, so essentially just training with their first team, he may as well come back and do it with us
