david in sweden Posted 20 October, 2015 Share Posted 20 October, 2015 Although we try to forget some of our former staff, no-one is likely to forget Nigel Adkins spell at SMS. Now at L1 Sheff.Utd. he has already brought in Billy (Sharp) and now it seems he has borrowed Dean Hammond from a successful Leicester squad. Seems like Nige is tracking down all his former heroes from L1 / Championship days and strengthening his Blades side. So who is next on his wish list, I wonder......Chaplow?....Fox?......Guly?....... .......who knows..... if they get promoted this season, he may even try for SRL.. before he hangs up his boots....(if he doesn't cut it with West Brom?) Lallana's Left Peg Posted 20 October, 2015 Share Posted 20 October, 2015 I would imagine Chaplow would fancy the move given his new gaffer is Darren Ferguson. The two hate each other

ART Posted 20 October, 2015 Share Posted 20 October, 2015 It would be great if Nigel takes one or two of our budding Academy lads on loan. Not only to give them playing time, but teach them what will be required of them in future. Could imagine several of the lads would jump at the chance of playing for Nigel. VectisSaint Posted 20 October, 2015 Share Posted 20 October, 2015 Kelvin? Beat me to it, though even Nige knows that Kelv is not up to it, after all it was Nige who brought in Boruc 3 years ago (debut anniversary today) to replace him.
The Cat Posted 20 October, 2015 Share Posted 20 October, 2015 IS SRL getting any gametime with WBA. If not' date=' he may want to be values and used![/quote'] If his performance against us at the Hawthorns was anything to go by then League 1 is about his level now. I haven't seen anything of him since then so hard to say if that was a one off or not.

I haven't seen anything of him since then so hard to say if that was a one off or not. Controversial opinion, but his legs were gone in the last couple of months of his final season with us. Rotting on the bench at Liverpool did him no good - it'd be in his best interest to take a final stand with Nige at Sheffield Utd and then bow out in glory rather than suffering the ignominy of not making the WBA squad.. Dare anyone contradict you Vectis.. but I thought that Boruc was a " Cortese deal ", and Adkins wasn't that keen on him to start with. I maybe wrong, but I'm sure I heard that from " another source ". IMHO ....one of Adkins (few) mistakes was taking us up to the Prem. without the benefit of an international goalie when (almost) every other club had one or two with international experience. At least two clubs had three ! When our bid for Butland failed ..we took Gazzaniga instead, and he is still to make a positive impression.

Whether he was Cortese deal or not Adkins replaced Kelv with Artur as soon as he was able. I really don't go with this "Cortese deal" or "not Cortese deal", it is put about by a few "friends" on here who have an agenda against Cortese, anything bad, "Cortese", anything good, "not Cortese". In the end most things would have gone through Uncle Les. Bottom line is we were about 5 weeks into our Premier League return when we signed a replacement for Kelvin, then we had to wait about 3 or 4 weeks for that keeper to shed a few pounds beofre he made his debut. Then Artur lost his marbles and so we had to suffer again... Totally agree with you about that being an Adkins mistake, always found it odd with him being a keeper. Part of that great defensive record goes down to the efforts of Jose and Jos who were outstanding that season. 2) unless my stats. are way out ...Boruc (after being signed) played only TWO first team games in the first 22 League and Cup matches. until New Year 2013. He finally took over from KD and Gazzaniga (game 23) in January and Adkins was sacked three weeks later, and following a 2-2 away draw at Chelsea. 3) quite clearly Les (rightly) has the say on transfers nowadays, but I always felt that everything had to get past Cortese's desk before it was approved. Not sure how much sway Les had in those days compared to now. Look at those "loan deals" from Swiss and Italian clubs....reeks of Cortese's hand to me. He finally took over from KD and Gazzaniga (game 23) in January and Adkins was sacked three weeks later, and following a 2-2 away draw at Chelsea. Nothing wrong with your stats. He was suspended by the Club after his second game, after conceding 2nd goal against Spurs, allegedly for throwing a water bottle at fans behind the Chapel goal. He was not selected initially after the investigation was concluded on 8 November, until 8 December (Gazza initially took over in goal for League games (Kelvin played Capital One Cup game against Leeds that we won 3-0), Davis came back in during December with Boruc on the bench. Can't recall whether Gazza lost his place in December due to injury or anything, but he never made another appearance after 1st December despite a record of 5 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats in his 11 starts). Boruc was back on 1 Jan, and played in every game until the end of the season with Kelv on the bench.
david in sweden Posted 21 October, 2015 Author Share Posted 21 October, 2015 well thanks for that Vectis.......maybe we should put the whole " goalie thing " behind us...especially as this is a thread about Nigel and Sheff.Utd. but I don't think that KD will go on loan either. .......unless.....we get Forster back fit and fine....or if the Blades have a goalie crisis and have to borrow someone ASAP.. .........never say never, but stranger things have happened in the football world. The9 Posted 24 October, 2015 Share Posted 24 October, 2015 Not sure Sheff U are big spenders, since the start of last season they've signed 10 free transfers, 7 undisclosed signings of players I wouldn't think were expensive at L1 level (except maybe Billy Sharp), and John Brayford for a hefty £2m from Cardiff. They only signed two players for any kind of fee this summer, and only 3 in total. That doesn't smack of "big spending" to me.

You seem to be confusing facts and opinions. What many think is that he is a manager good enough to be managing in the PL. The fact he got us promoted twice is fact, not an opinion. We all have an opinion on what constitutes a Legend. You have your reasons for calling him a legend, I have my reasons for not classing him as one. How I see it is just 2 posters, who were against his appointment at the start and were quite vocal throughout his campaign with us, just because they didn't like him and it wasn't the mega star manager they both wanted. However, they were proven so badly wrong that any chance now they have to potentially validate their opinions they jump on it.

You have your reasons for calling him a legend, I have my reasons for not classing him as one. I think the vast majority of people on this forum have moved away from discussions about whether or not he is good enough for Premier or not, beyond a general hope that he does one day because people generally like him, admire him for his success here and his treatment when sacked. What this forum really doesn't need is a couple of tedious one-note trolls forever desperate to remind us how poor they think he is. You can repeat your sh it over and over if you like but your classless glee in a Sheffield United defeat does not suddenly mean Adkins didn't promote us twice. He did. We get it. Jolly well done you.
