yellow&blue Posted 14 October, 2015 Share Posted 14 October, 2015 Just found this on YouTube, the video also includes his debut hat-trick against Arsenal. I thought that footage from that game didn't exist......... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Nt9WCbDp70&feature=youtu.be
Wallington Saint Posted 14 October, 2015 Share Posted 14 October, 2015 Amazing...I was at that Arsenal game, and it's burnt into my memory, but I've never seen footage ..remember Colin Clarke playing a blinder to support young Shearer!
suewhistle Posted 14 October, 2015 Share Posted 14 October, 2015 Thanks! Just about to watch it, but my memory is of Colin Clarke setting up Shearer and think I was under the West Stand.
norwaysaint Posted 14 October, 2015 Share Posted 14 October, 2015 Always thought that hat trick was famously not caught on film. Definitely the first time I've seen the footage.
Kenilworthy Posted 15 October, 2015 Share Posted 15 October, 2015 That Arsenal footage is a real find
Yorkshire Saint Posted 15 October, 2015 Share Posted 15 October, 2015 Ha, thanks for Sharing that. It's easy to forget how many goals he did score for us especially 91/92. That era, pre Branfoot, was quality and I genuinely think some of those players would have been even better in the modern game...Rod Wallace especially. Shearer a goal against Spurs was top class. ericb Posted 15 October, 2015 Share Posted 15 October, 2015 Was lucky enough to see all of his career at saints. Great player and like the poster before said, that Nicholl side was a thing of beauty, basically four up front and ripping some damn good sides to pieces (Liverpool 4-1 anyone?). Outside of the promotion years I'd say it was my favourite trike supporting saints. Shearer, le tiss, Wallace, Wallace, Timmy, Jimmy case, Armstrong etc. Plus the dell was still terraced (and cheap). ericofarabia Posted 15 October, 2015 Share Posted 15 October, 2015 Quite a few assists from MLT in there as well. Shame it didn't work against Italy in the qualifiers way back when!!
Hatch Posted 15 October, 2015 Share Posted 15 October, 2015 Looked a decent player, should never have left Southampton. His career really never took off after us.

mrfahaji Posted 15 October, 2015 Share Posted 15 October, 2015 Started watching Saints when we had Shearer, Wallace & Le Tiss up front but unfortunately I was too young to really remember them. One of my earliest memories is the Pink (think it might have just been the 'Football Echo' then) running through the candidates to replace Chris Nicholl. My Dad wanted Ivan Golac who was his favourite player, but we ended up with someone called Branfoot...
