Saint Charlie Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 Think his contract is up at the end of this season. Would be suprised if they offered him another one, but then again they offered him a decent deal before at a suprising point after he has been dropped a few times, so not beyond the realms of possibility as a third keeper. Surely though, this season is the last of his playing days, but would be stupid not to try and retain him in some capacity, probably within the Academy at this stage to develop experience. Thoughts on what would be a good next step for the veteran stopperlad?

Thoughts on what would be a good next step for the veteran stopperlad? Playing for Eastleigh to link up with Dan Harding.... Wouldn't be surprised to see him end up in some capacity in the academy HTBH or maybe he is looking forward to long (long) comfortable retirement that many of us could only dream of?
Saint Charlie Posted 13 October, 2015 Author Posted 13 October, 2015 Playing for Eastleigh to link up with Dan Harding.... Wouldn't be surprised to see him end up in some capacity in the academy HTBH or maybe he is looking forward to long (long) comfortable retirement that many of us could only dream of? Harding said on Solent the other day that he is best pals with Kelv so he may possibly want to play another year at a lower level. Although would be a shock after the PL lifestyle.
WealdSaint Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 Depends if he wants to play any more. If he retires I'm pretty certain the club will offer some sort of coaching or PR role. He may fancy a couple of years in the lower leagues before hanging his gloves up
Pastor Patrón Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 He'll retire, we've no reason whatsoever to offer him a coaching role.
SuperSAINT Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 Coaching role, is this his testimonial year? Signed in July 2006.
Toadhall Saint Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 He'll retire, we've no reason whatsoever to offer him a coaching role. That you know of? Have you ever seen or spoken to him? How do you know what he has or hasn't got to offer??? Plank
ozzmeister Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 He's be great hosting the clubs corporate guests!
The Cat Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 Make him an ambassador for the club. Has he done any coaching badges?
farawaysaint Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 Kelvin is smart, funny and well liked. I hope he is kept around in an ambassadorial role.
Convict Colony Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 Kelvin is smart, funny and well liked. I hope he is kept around in an ambassadorial role. Kelvin is rich and secure for life and whilst a commendable servant in no way do we owe him a role for the next 20yrs.
Beckenham Saint Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 Kelvin is smart, funny and well liked. I hope he is kept around in an ambassadorial role. Well he's smart and well liked, at least...
The Cat Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 Kelvin is rich and secure for life and whilst a commendable servant in no way do we owe him a role for the next 20yrs. We don't owe it to him, but why shouldn't he have a role like that? I'm sure he'd do a great job promoting the club and working in the community.
farawaysaint Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 Kelvin is rich and secure for life and whilst a commendable servant in no way do we owe him a role for the next 20yrs. I said nothing about owing him a role I just hope we give him one
Batman Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 What sort of kudos and fame could he bring to a ambassador role in such a global league? Very little I would suggest
The Cat Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 What sort of kudos and fame could he bring to a ambassador role in such a global league? Very little I would suggest Christ, you just don't give it a rest do you?
Pastor Patrón Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 That you know of? Have you ever seen or spoken to him? How do you know what he has or hasn't got to offer??? Plank Don't cry about it dude, players retire all the time, maybe you could buy a house near to him or something?
Whitey Grandad Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 Don't cry about it dude, players retire all the time, maybe you could buy a house near to him or something? Or hang around outside it after school, after all Kelvis lives opposite on Winchester Road? (Only joking, PP, we all love you really )
Ohio Saint Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 They made him club captain presumably because he has something to offer the club aside from his GK duties. It would be ridiculous to assume that after his retirement there would be no further role for him. Maybe there is, maybe not. This is simply not a matter that any of us here have enough insight to really comment on.
Toadhall Saint Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 Don't cry about it dude, players retire all the time, maybe you could buy a house near to him or something? You really are a plank
Saint_clark Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 In an age where we complain about player loyalty, Kelvin is being dismissed by some on here. Unbelievable.
STEVEADAMS Posted 14 October, 2015 Posted 14 October, 2015 Been a great servant to SFC , an all round great guy and would be good to see him kept at the club. Didn't he say before he wanted to coach?.
Toomer Posted 14 October, 2015 Posted 14 October, 2015 I would like to think that there could be a coaching position with the yougsters for him.
Hatch Posted 14 October, 2015 Posted 14 October, 2015 Although he is clearly a great guy we don't owe him anything, we have paid him millions of pounds to be here so he has hardly had a tough life. We should give him a coaching role if he is a good enough coach, not for any other reason.
Batman Posted 14 October, 2015 Posted 14 October, 2015 In an age where we complain about player loyalty, Kelvin is being dismissed by some on here. Unbelievable. dismissed by who? saints have made hima multi millionaire. I do wonder how much he has earned in the last couple of years for hardly playing? how many millions of £££££ he got vastly rewarded for his loyalty and now some want to pay him more thousands per week because he is a good guy to have around? pay him if he skills are worth it IMO. not because he is a 'laugh'
STEVEADAMS Posted 14 October, 2015 Posted 14 October, 2015 No people are not saying keep him because he is a good guy. It has been said many times that Kelvin is great with the younger players and is an important figure in the dressing room amongst other good traits. Of course we don't owe him anything but you don't cast aside good people that can benefit the organisation either.
The9 Posted 14 October, 2015 Posted 14 October, 2015 dismissed by who? saints have made hima multi millionaire. I do wonder how much he has earned in the last couple of years for hardly playing? how many millions of £££££ he got vastly rewarded for his loyalty and now some want to pay him more thousands per week because he is a good guy to have around? pay him if he skills are worth it IMO. not because he is a 'laugh' When the margins between success and failure are so slim, and player moods are the most significant element of performance that can't be controlled, a few thousand a week to potentially raise the spirits before a match of a group who cost millions could be the shrewdest investment going. Not to mention the message it sends about rewarding loyalty if the club don't treat him with respect. Cortese saw some of this loyalty picture and built up his cult with promises of Champions League to a small core of players, but their loyalty seems to have been to him not Saints. At the same time his treatment of the likes of MLT and Benali and the failure to appreciate how their presence could benefit the club said all you needed to know about how well others were treated when they didn't have an immediate tangible benefit to the goals in mind.
Saint86 Posted 14 October, 2015 Posted 14 October, 2015 Kelvin is rich and secure for life and whilst a commendable servant in no way do we owe him a role for the next 20yrs. With the note worthy exception that he stuck with a club going out of business in the 3rd tier of english football and set to start on -10points rather than jump up 3 divisions (and a similar hike in annual wage and career earnings)... No, we don't owe the man any loyalty at all. Lets not even mention Leed's away or a crucial penalty save vs Brighton.

No, we don't owe the man any loyalty at all. Lets not even mention Leed's away or a crucial penalty save vs Brighton. and got paid millions of £££ for doing it.. MILLIONS. I am sure he will stay in some capacity and earn even more large sums of money. I highly doubt it will be because he is a 'laugh' and a 'good lad'...im sure he will have to at least look like earning his money
Pilchards Posted 14 October, 2015 Posted 14 October, 2015 They found a role for Jiadi as he was a popular member of the club and I expect the same will happen to Davis.
Saint Charlie Posted 14 October, 2015 Author Posted 14 October, 2015 (edited) Who changed the title of this thread from Kelvis to Kelvin? It wasn't a typo FFS. They are at opposite ends of the keyboard. Over-officious wazzery. Edited 14 October, 2015 by Saint Charlie

igsey Posted 14 October, 2015 Posted 14 October, 2015 I'd personally give him a year extension. Stek is going back at the end of the season (so far as we know) and I can't see Gazza staying past this year unless he really improves. Kelvin is obviously content with his role as emergency reserve keeper and I think we could do a lot worse than him.
SammyJ Posted 14 October, 2015 Posted 14 October, 2015 I bumped into kelvin in sainsburys the other day, what a lovely bloke. He told me he was getting a two year extension to his contract with a promise to be promoted to second choice. He was great with the kids, photos etc.

Saint Charlie Posted 14 October, 2015 Author Posted 14 October, 2015 Let's hope not Obviously not. Not sure which is more ridiculous, that he would be offered a two year extension, or that he would tell a random shopper in Sainsburys. Plus he already is second choice.

doddisalegend Posted 17 October, 2015 Posted 17 October, 2015 The future of KD seems to be taking all the flack for a shocking team performance something the rest of the team will no doubt be very happy about:p
LostBoys Posted 17 October, 2015 Posted 17 October, 2015 He was s**te. My knee is shot and I can still kick a football further than his pathetic efforts today. Time to go Kelv and thanks for everything

david in sweden Posted 17 October, 2015 Posted 17 October, 2015 In an age where we complain about player loyalty, Kelvin is being dismissed by some on here. Unbelievable. .....player loyalty ......I thought that concept went out when MLT retired?
Saint_clark Posted 17 October, 2015 Posted 17 October, 2015 .....player loyalty ......I thought that concept went out when MLT retired? Except it clearly didn't, Kelvin is proof of that, and yet people are quite happy to boot him out the door at the end of his contract and have nothing more to do with him.
