Ken Tone Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Joking apart, is there any chance that the game will be off? The lake near my house is frozen over, the car thermometer shows -2 still and the garden is absolutely solid. Given we don't have undersoil heating ,and what is more that I remember one game at the Dell being called off becasue the toilets were frozen even though the pitch was playable ... there has to be some doubt surely? K.
Spades Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 the ice on my car this morning wasnt too thick, not as bad as yesterday anyway. I would imagine that the game will go ahead without any concerns.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 I played 9 holes this morning - bloody freezing! Suggest you all wear gloves. If you live near a maplin pop in and buy the self heating gloves - were £19.99 now £9.99 need 3 x AAA batteries but they are brilliant. Mention original bournemouth saint at the checkout to qualify for a 2.5% vat cut!
Saint Mikey Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 These days the undersoil heating would have been on for at least the last 24 hours - not even a slender chance the game will be called off.
70's Mike Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 These days the undersoil heating would have been on for at least the last 24 hours - not even a slender chance the game will be called off. we do not have any ???????????
Saint Mikey Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 we do not have any ??????????? Errr. I would think you'll find that we do... I will happily be corrected, but can't believe we don't.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Errr. I would think you'll find that we do... I will happily be corrected, but can't believe we don't. we dont
Spades Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Errr. I would think you'll find that we do... I will happily be corrected, but can't believe we don't. i dont think we do, we had theopportunity but good old rupes thought it would be too much cost running it In hindsight i suppose if we did have it we probably wouldnt use it for electrical costs over night!!!!!!!
70's Mike Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Errr. I would think you'll find that we do... I will happily be corrected, but can't believe we don't. stand corrected , that is why the big black tarpulins will be around the outside running track today because we have no under soil heating
lordswoodsaints Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 the pitch has been covered for days so i doubt they will call it off......too much money involved.
Nexstar Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 I think after the amount of games that were called of yesterday the groundsman would have taken the necessary action (whatever that may be) to make sure it goes ahead, especially with all the build-up to it.

In fairness how many games have been called off due to frozen pitch over past few years? I cant remember any
St. Jason Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 These days the undersoil heating would have been on for at least the last 24 hours - not even a slender chance the game will be called off. Mr. Lowe only had the pipes to take the heating/suction laid when the stadium was built, didn't see the point in spending the extra to have it connected!
Griffo Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 I am pretty sure we do have undersoil heating at SMS.. and there was a game called off against Crystal Palace midweek a few seasons ago.
Master Bates Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 I am pretty sure we do have undersoil heating at SMS.. and there was a game called off against Crystal Palace midweek a few seasons ago. Might be wrong but was that not waterlogged?
70's Mike Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 I am pretty sure we do have undersoil heating at SMS.. and there was a game called off against Crystal Palace midweek a few seasons ago. we have the pipes BUT IT IS NOT CONNECTED to any heat source as posted by some above
Saint_clark Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 we have the pipes BUT IT IS NOT CONNECTED to any heat source as posted by some above Well that's just f*cking stupid.
70's Mike Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Well that's just f*cking stupid. a decision was taken on the construction of sms
thefuriousb Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Its to do with geology... due to its proximity to the river the ground temperature should mean the pitch is not frozen. Wind chill has no bearing on how hard the ground is
sandwichsaint Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Def no undersoil heating; apparantly with the pitch being virtually at sea level (river Itchen) it was thought unlikely ever to need it. Have to say that's been borne out over the years. We had the cancelation v Palace (for water-logged pitch) mid-week a couple of years ago, I was on the way and turned round on the M3at 6.00 for that one. Also a game v Spurs (?) that kicked off late for forking flood water off the playing surface. Other than that I can't recall a postponement at SMS so possibly this could be one thing that RL got right?

I thought the pipes that were laid was a air system, blow hot air to defrost the suck air to drain??? If that was indeed the case we'd not of lost the games you mention due to waterlogging!!

St.Patrik Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 In Sweden its -17 at the mo - so dont come here crying over -2 wimps ; )
miserableoldgit Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 The pipes are in but the pumps haven't been fitted. When SMS was being built I went on a tour there and I asked about undersoil heating and I was told that there would be none as the number of games called off through frozen pitches is minimal so it wasn`t worth spending the extra money.
Yate Saint Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Might be wrong but was that not waterlogged? Yeah it was waterlogged. I got half way there from Bristol to find out the news. Bit annoying to say the least!!
instinct Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Yesterday went to see brighton cobblers in brighton, they called the match off when we got there :-(
alpine_saint Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Well that's just f*cking stupid. Welcome to Loweworld.......
