They signed Maynard on loan a few weeks ago which means Sam has been on the bench recently but he has scored one for England U20s v Holland last week and came on yesterday v Turkey and helped turn a 1-0 deficit to a 2-1 victory.

We've had people on here saying that Mane was shocking (when he first joined)

 

I don't remember it being when he first joined so much as that run up to Christmas when we were losing games and TBH Mané was awful; in that period he really did look like a more expensive Mayuka. Against Burnley and Sheff Utd I think he was especially bad, getting dragged off having made no impact at all.

 

Then on that Boxing day trip to Palace he suddenly turned it around and looked a decent player again.

Funny that Arsenal fans took one look at him in the 2-1 cup game (one of his first matches for us) and said he was class and really dangerous.

 

A lot of numpties like you on here that write players off far to early.

 

JWP is another one that people will look like utter mugs over.

Yes because Arsenal fans opinions on our players are certainly more valid and informed then our own. I was unaware JWP has captained the England senior side as well, or even got a call up, pretty sure that makes him the only English player under the age of 25 in the top two flights who hasn't at least got a cap.

Mane in his first game Vs Arsenal was superb. Really exciting and unpredictable.

 

Some criticised him as said above just before Xmas but frustration is just part of the package with unpredictable wingers, especially in there first season.

He was still shockingly awful in some games early on. Players can be shockingly awful and still turn out to be very good. Some can be shockingly awful and stay that way, some can be brilliant and turn out to be shockingly awful. Unfortunately there are a few rather dim posters on here who don't seem to be able to grasp such a concept and spout rubbish about a player being brilliant even when he was at some times shockingly awful.

It was obvious he was a decent buy IMO. Even in his poorer games he showed that he was a good player who would scare defenders.

Getting back on point about Gallagher, he hasn't scored for them yet. Seems to be struggling a little according to the MK fan I know - thinks he may be carrying an injury. As others have pointed out, they've bought in another forward player which has dropped SG further down the pecking order. Will be interesting to see how he does between now and xmas.

A bit frustrating when we send players out on loan to get games and experience and they end up sitting on the bench - but you cant blame the managers for not playing them if they aren't providing the goods.

I think Les Reed said we structure the deals in such a way that the more the player on loan plays the less the club he is at pay for him. Stephens is at a good club and will have a tough time getting in that Middlesbrough team unless there are injuries. Gallagher needs to refine his craft - he is a big lad with a lot of upside but his general touch isn't great and that will really impact the degree he can influence a game. Turnbull plays all the time at Swindon but they appear to be crap this season.

 

I'd expect several more from the U21's to go out on loan soon as well as they aren't getting too much from U21 football even if they are playing all the time.

Saints charge a club a sum of money when they loan a player out and then the club doing the loaning get a bit back from Saints every time the player makes an appearance.

I certainly feel Jack would have been better off playing every game for Swindon in league 1 rather than just playing 26 mins in the championship.

......it has to be said that many players who are fouled (or who do dive) make a better job of " falling " that Mane does. Chelsea game was a prime example

 

Even though he is (genuinely) fouled quite a lot - every time he goes down.... it looks a bit theatrical......

Mane's problem is that he IS pretty lightweight and tends to fall like he's been hit by a ton of bricks as a result. It's also easy to be made to fall over and go sprawling when you're flat out running too.

whatever else happens...

....if the MK Dons manager doesn't rate him - they shouldn't keep him, (although looking at their league position he could do worse than give Sam a run of games)

 

We should get him back (if poss.) and organise another loan out...(if legal). The lad needs games and really should be out of the U21 squad now - if he is to succeed.

He played for England U20s yesterday in France.

There is a call back option in January

 

We should take him back FF. They really rated him and should nurture him. Maybe cherry pick the right place for hi to go.

If he's on a "season long" loan (i.e. more than the 93 days you're allowed for a "month by month" loan) we can't recall him until Jan 1st even if we wanted to.

Nothing about "mutual agreement to cancel" season long loans ("Temporary Transfers") in the Prem Handbook [page 200], in fact it specifies a minimum term for it:

 

A “Temporary Transfer” shall mean the transfer of a contract registration effected in

accordance with Rules V.6 to V.10.

V.6. Subject to the conditions set out below, a Temporary Transfer shall be permitted:

V.6.1. between Clubs; and

V.6.2. between a Club and a club in membership of the Football League, the Football

Conference, the Northern Premier League, the Isthmian League and the Southern

League.

V.7. The conditions referred to in Rule V.6 are:

V.7.1. a Temporary Transfer to a Club may not take place in the Transfer Window in

which the Transferor Club acquired the Player’s registration;

V.7.3. if during the period of a Temporary Transfer the Player’s registration is transferred

FWIW Rule 4.2 doesn't pertain to cancelling a loan either, only additional restrictions on an initial loan.

 

V.4. Outside a Transfer Window the Board in its absolute discretion may:

V.4.1. refuse an application; or

V.4.2. grant an application and, if thought fit, impose conditions by which the Club

making the application and the player shall be bound

An L2 club OK ..Po???? NO !...just as long as it's not THAT one....it would blight his Saints career for ever.
