Saint Martini Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 Dutch newspaper de Telegraaf are reporting Saints will pay a behind closed doors friendly against Ajax on Thursday. It's behind closed doors so there's no (football related) excuse to travel to Amsterdam.
Whitey Grandad Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 Sounds like a team-building exercise for those not on international calls. A mini break with a change of scenery.
a1ex2001 Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 Sounds like a team-building exercise for those not on international calls. A mini break with a change of scenery. Sounds about right and a kick about against Ajax's non international players just to keep things football related!
SuperSAINT Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 Good opportunity for game time for the likes of Jordy & Caulker.
SuperSAINT Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 Game time for Jay Rod and Juanmi too. Very true. Pretty much everyone else is away aren't they? (Excluding Clasie & Caulker). Good experience for some of the U21 lads.
nta786 Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 Surely Gaston will be available for this too? Or was he called up by Uruguay
SuperSAINT Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 Surely Gaston will be available for this too? Or was he called up by Uruguay Good point. He surely can't still be getting called up can he?
Saint Charlie Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 Yes Matt Targett needs a game too He is with the Eng U21s.
Matthew Le God Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 Perhaps something like... Gazzaniga/K.Davis Mugabi McCarthy Caulker Debayo Clasie Romeu Ramirez Juanmi Rodriguez Long Subs: K.Davis/Gazzaniga Wood Isgrove McQueen Gape Hesketh Seager Sims Little
SuperSAINT Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 Perhaps something like... Gazzaniga/K.Davis Mugabi McCarthy Caulker Debayo Clasie Romeu Ramirez Juanmi Rodriguez Long Subs: K.Davis/Gazzaniga Wood Isgrove McQueen Gape Hesketh Seager Sims Little Decent team, MLG.
egg Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 Perhaps something like... Gazzaniga/K.Davis Mugabi McCarthy Caulker Debayo Clasie Romeu Ramirez Juanmi Rodriguez Long Subs: K.Davis/Gazzaniga Wood Isgrove McQueen Gape Hesketh Seager Sims Little Long will be with the Ireland squad, otherwise I think you're about right.
SuperSAINT Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 Long will be with the Ireland squad, otherwise I think you're about right. Replace him with Seager. He's been on fire for the U21's.
VectisSaint Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 Good point. He surely can't still be getting called up can he? Ramirez has not been called by Uruguay for a year or so.
WealdSaint Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 He is with the Eng U21s. O yes forgot..............sorry
WealdSaint Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 He is with the Eng U21s. O yes forgot..............sorry
Whitey Grandad Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 Ramirez has not been called by Uruguay for a year or so. I still don't think he'll get a game.
VectisSaint Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 Long will be with the Ireland squad, otherwise I think you're about right. I think Martina is also available. Curacao were knocked out of the WC and don't seem to have any fixtures this week. Stek is also not on international duty AFAIK.
VectisSaint Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 I still don't think he'll get a game. Might not last 90 minutes...
Whitey Grandad Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 I think Martina is also available. Curacao were knocked out of the WC and don't seem to have any fixtures this week. Stek is also not on international duty AFAIK. Okay, now I understand. Tax-allowable break for the players and management it is then. How about Clasie?
JRM Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 Koeman loves any excuse to get a little trip back to Holland in his schedule, it's a good idea to help build the fitness levels of some of the players who haven't featured regularly and gives the management a chance to have a closer look at them.
Andy Durman Posted 5 October, 2015 Posted 5 October, 2015 (edited) Replace him with Seager. He's been on fire for the U21's. Yup hell of a penalty last week. Oops!! The boys on fire. Although he's been out injured most of season start. I can't see any of our current U21's (those out on loan excluded) making the first team. I hope I'm wrong Edited 5 October, 2015 by Andy Durman
Saint-Armstrong Posted 8 October, 2015 Posted 8 October, 2015 (edited) Saints winning 2-1 at current. Ryan Seager and Juanmi with the goals. Saints were two up, but conceded from a penalty after a foul from Cuco Martina. Paulo Gazzaniga, Oriol Romeu, Jordy Clasie, Gastón Ramírez and Jay Rodriguez all playing. Edited 8 October, 2015 by Saint-Armstrong
tisspahars Posted 8 October, 2015 Posted 8 October, 2015 Or possibly it was NEARLY 2-2 - my dutch isn't the best! Koeman MAYBE back in....
Saint-Armstrong Posted 8 October, 2015 Posted 8 October, 2015 FT: Ajax 1-2 Southampton Clasie played 60 mins, no issues. Oriol got booked.
doddisalegend Posted 8 October, 2015 Posted 8 October, 2015 Hope someone from the club is tapping up Frank de Boer as Koeman's replacement in 2 seasons time.....
SuperSAINT Posted 8 October, 2015 Posted 8 October, 2015 FT: Ajax 1-2 Southampton Clasie played 60 mins, no issues. Oriol got booked. Cheers for the update S-A. Pleased to see Clasie get through 60mins.
doddisalegend Posted 8 October, 2015 Posted 8 October, 2015 See Ronald found time to attend a Dutch coaches association meeting yesterday while he was in the Netherlands http://www.tribalfootball.com/articles/southampton-boss-koeman-drops-dutch-bombshell-our-coaching-is-failing-4099055
Andy Durman Posted 8 October, 2015 Posted 8 October, 2015 I think Koeman has had his eyes opened by the 'Southampton Way'.

Toadhall Saint Posted 8 October, 2015 Posted 8 October, 2015 https://www.clubcall.com/southampton/clasie-proves-fitness-in-ajax-clash-1784573.html Good news indeed . On at least 3 fronts.
the saint in winchester Posted 8 October, 2015 Posted 8 October, 2015 "injudicious sliding challenge" from Martina. Vardy doesn't need much to go down and get given a penalty. Note to Fonte and Martina - "NO injudicious sliding challenges" please.

100%Red&White Posted 8 October, 2015 Posted 8 October, 2015 Highlights http://www.ajax.nl/Ajax-TV/203514/Highlights-Ajax-Southampton.htm
benjii Posted 8 October, 2015 Posted 8 October, 2015 Looks like team was: ---------------------Gazarrniggarr-------------------------- Mugabi---------Martina-----Caulker--------------Debayo -----------------Romeu-----Classie----------------------- Gaston-----------------Juanmi---------------Rodriguez -------------------------Seager------------------------- And the pen was a good tackle by Martina. I found it judicious.
ErwinK1961 Posted 8 October, 2015 Posted 8 October, 2015 Cracking tackle by Martina, ref's had one there. Nice header from Seager too
Panda Posted 8 October, 2015 Posted 8 October, 2015 "Juanmi scored the winner and Jordy Clasie lasted an hour in a 2-1 behind-closed-doors friendly win over Ajax at Staplewood on Thursday." I thought this was in Holland?

Whitey Grandad Posted 8 October, 2015 Posted 8 October, 2015 Thanks for these. I see that Gazza spilled a couple of shots, perhaps he needs more practics.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 8 October, 2015 Posted 8 October, 2015 1min 8secs in: "Ryan Seager with the anal for Southampton" Bit rude but they are in Amsterdam I suppose.
Matthew Le God Posted 8 October, 2015 Posted 8 October, 2015 Why didn't Reed play? Reed and Gallagher are with England under 20s. Ward-Prowse, Stephens and Targett are with England under 21s.
scotty Posted 8 October, 2015 Posted 8 October, 2015 Good watch, I enjoyed that. Couple of decent saves from gazza, and jayrod is looking really good, terrific cross for seager plus another lovely pass in the box towards the end.
