Please can those who were clamoring to replace him this summer now please shut the **** up. He is the perfect lone striker, big, strong brilliant at holding the ball up. He is no slouch and he is also a decent finisher when he is confident. All he needs is decent runners off him so his deft touches and great awareness can bring those runners into play. There are not many strikers in the premier league I would replace him with as you have to remember he is perfect for the system Koeman wants to play. I think for the 8ish million fee we paid he has proved to be an absolute bargain and this and last week he was just unplayable and long may that continue.

He was a good signing for 8 million and is playing really well at the moment. Won everything in the air yesterday. But he's 31 next summer so I hope the club are looking and thinking about a succession plan, even if you are not

Pelle can play well at times . This performance was against a very very poor Chelsea side . I hardly think this slightly hysterical gushing post is warranted .

If he can sustain this type of performance for an entire season then this type of post is warranted .

Until then its a little premature .

Not at all , just don't rate him . I didn't see this game as I'm overseas atm but have it recorded back in Australia.

He can sometimes be very effective but can frustratingly can also be completely ineffective . So far since signing I would say he is more often ineffective than effective . This is exacerbated by our lack of options in formation and personnel , this season that situation should be improved .

I would be stoked if this last games performance from him would continue for the entire season . Would happily write a gushing eulogy at seasons end but so far , I'm just not sold .

From what I've read he had a fantastic game , long may it continue .

Would anyone honestly say that Chelsea made it hard for him though ?

My last post for the day as the moderators don't reply to emails regarding bank details .

I welcome other opinions and think the best thing about football is the polarizing veiws on certain players .

Up the Saints ?

Haha, you've not even watched the game and you're coming out with this horse ****e. Pelle has been excellent for us overall and was unplayable yesterday. He doesn't do it every week but if he did he'd be the best striker in the world. Is that really a stick to beat him with?

A goal and two assists. Can't argue with that. He even kept pace with Mane before receiving the pass from him for the third (which is something the Chelsea defensive slugs couldn't manage all game).

You'd take that every week. He took his goal beautifully and I'm still not sure which was the better strike, his or Davis's. Davis hadn't scored for ages and I'm sure it must have been preying on his mind but Graziano had enough time to over-think what he was going to do yet with one quick glance struck the ball with perfect confidence.

He's been our best player this season. By a long way.

Agreed, even in thee games we have been rubbish he stood out as still doing well. Originally i was not sure he was much better than rickie (ell worse) but he has proven his qualilty.

Who said I am not? I would be very happy to have a younger understudy waiting on the wings. Maybe we already have in Sam Gallagher who is still young and learning and has a good loan move to MK Dons. Although he is yet to force his way in at MK Dons after all it took Harry Kane several unimpressive loan moves before he made his breakthrough season at Spurs.

In any case in Shane Long and Jay Rod and possibly Juanmi we have decent backup options for now, even though they are a little different in style.

I read until "more often ineffective than effective" and then stopped because I realised the whole post would be absolute rubbish. Made even worse that it's an assessment given by someone who, by their own admission, doesn't watch all our games!

As others have said, he's been our best player this season so far.

Totally Agree he enables us to break by holding up the ball when we are all behind it and he has the deft touches to play others in when they are pushing forward. Pelle is the ideal foil for Mane the two together can take out any premiership defence height, guile, strength and pace combined between the two of them

Might be better if you don't watch it mate. A lot of your 'expert' opinions are blown out of the water, but you seem, like the majority of the media, to have put this result down to Chelsea being poor rather than us playing well.

Strikers need other players around them to feed off of and we haven't always played to Pelle's strengths. It was clear last season that the guy has quality. Not sure what else he needs to do to convince people that he is Premiership quality?

It puts his "miss" against United into context. The margin of success and failure is very slim. This shot was perfection, the one that hit the post slightly out.

Didn't realise until endlessly watching the replays :) that he also made the interception and then legged it up field behind Mane to finish it off.

No slouch he was MOM for me.

I loved how he ran off celebrating like he scored the goal after Davis put it away, he was super stoked.

Yeah! - Was brilliant.

It was so important that in replacing Rickie, we didn't just sign a goalscorer. I can remember that when we were linked with Pelle before we signed him that there was a really good YouTube compilation of him at Feyenoord and it equally showed his goals with his assists.

not enough people take notice of the two ..sometimes three defenders who are harrassing him every time the ball comes in his direction...

Yesterday's assist for Steven Davis (thank goodness he scored at last)....was an example, when surrounded by three Chelsea players - (all within arms reach), he chests the ball down into Davis' path to provide an excellent chance.

Those of us "older in the tooth", can remember back to the days of Ron Davies - who was continually marked (often literally) by defenders trying to knock him off the ball ...and more recently those who were quick to criticise Rickie Lambert's lack of pace, should admit that what RL lacked in speed - he more than made up for in guile with countless lay-offs and assists.

TRUE : Pellé doesn't have a big turn of speed, but his reactions and timing are better than the average Prem. striker and his last season's goal tally might have been doubled had it not been for the woodwork.

Most Prem. strikers reaching 30 realise that their days are numbered, but before his untimely departure - Rickie Lambert could still put in a shift at 32.

I also think that Pellé (like Lambert before him) is grateful to the club for bringing him international honours at such a late stage in his career.

I'd like to think we'd have another season or two with GP - even if we buy / create/ develop a new strike partnership alongside him.

He hadn't been good enough away quite simply. Yesterday he was excellent. It makes a huge different for him having in form tadic and mane around him. He needs that's movement and pace. If it's him with Long or Rodriguez I think we struggle a bit more.

Hope he keeps it up, lot of poor defences around this season, would like to see Pelle getting 15+ and being up there with the best. He has the ability and will get the chances.

He made 2 and scored a beauty yet reading back the match thread some of this forums clueless lot wanted him subbed

Like Lambert he doesn't rely on pace so as long as he can still bully defenders he still has a few good seasons left in him.

To get the best out of him though, those around him need to anticipate the knock down/flick on,many times in the past he has been isolated and left out to dry,we need that CAM close to him,we saw that with Davis yesterday and saw what happened when he played close to him

I Rate him very highly and Koeman has built the team around his strengths.

But I also love the way he always demanding better from those around him, he directs the attack and I think cajoles the best out of Mane and Tadic. He is also first to get in there and protect the younger lads in an incident. This is a real experienced pro we are getting best out of.

You do really have to see a game at the stadium to appreciate a lot of what he does watch him after the ball has gone he never stops for 90 mins. Still wished we had kept Ricky though as I am concerned he plays too many games and stays on to long sometimes for 31 year old

The problem with many of his appearances are not so much his own ability or effort, but that he is often ineffective in the way he is used or supported by others around him . Too often he is isolated without those who should be buzzing around him, Mane should be the perfect foil for him.

As Saint Billy said his chest down yesterday is a perfect example of how he can be used if supported well.

His goal yesterday also was a great strike, but on last season's statistics that would more likely to have rebounded off the post 8 times out of ten.He also need a fraction of luck to keep them the right side of the post, bar. Would love him to have a 20 goal season.

Thought he was poor during the 2nd half of last season and it seemed like he had been found out a little. Can't argue with the way he has started this season though. He's winning a lot more in the air and holding it up much more effectively. Long may it continue.
