Vaping, Good or Bad.

After 30 years of smoking and endless failed attempts to give up I have managed to give up for one week so far, not a long time but in my case a record. I have spent near on £100 on one of these Vapouriser thingys where you can control the strength of inhale etc.

I got diagnosed with prostate cancer a few months ago and had to have the damn thing removed and am now due some radiotherapy treatment in a month or so once or if the side effect of incontinence get any better. Decided to attempt to give up as I know if I continue to smoke I deserve to peg it in any case.

Back to the title, there are mixed viewpoints on Vaping but in my case it has at least provided a light at the end of the tunnel......excuse the pun, and after trying numerous other methods this one seems to be the most successful and I am already feeling healthier as a result, plus the incontinence is already inproving because I am losing the smokers cough already and not putting so much strain on my damaged pee control nerves and muscles.

I vape and smoke. I was so impressed by vaping that I set up a sideline business selling premium e-liquids (http://www.justvapore.co.uk/). Although I haven't given up just quite yet, I have gone from 40 a day down to 10 a day with relatively little effort.

I have just come back from the dentist, who regularly ******** me for still smoking and he said that although dentists would never recommend taking up vaping, they endorse e-cigarettes over and above smoking. There was a recent report by public health England, that suggests that e-cigarettes should be prescribed by the NHS as a cessation device. Their research shows that e-cigarettes are 95% less harmful than tobacco cigarettes.

Vaping machines, which are more akin to portable shishas, give a much better hit than the small e-cigarettes. I would recommend them to anyone trying to quit.

What device are you using??

Better than smoking, worse than not. E-cigarettes are not currently licensed as medical products and so aren't regulated in the way the other nicotine products (gum, lozenges, patches etc.) are - manufacturers can currently chuck pretty much whatever they like in so long as it's not going to kill a person. This means they can put as much or as little nicotine in as they like in and don't legally have to tell the consumer how much, just whether it's there or not, like saying there is cocoa butter in your bar of chocolate but not saying how much.

This will change in 2016, as after the 20th May e-cigs/vaporisers/whatever you want to call them will be licensed as medicines, and so the whole business in this country will change, making them much safer, more effective as a way of losing nicotine dependency, and probably less profitable.

I vape. Was never a heavy smoker but needed something to help me quit and it has worked.

My advice is to get a 50w istick and pair it with an Aspire Atlantis. Some of the liquids you can get taste gorgeous, no way would I ever go back to cigarettes now.

Even having only being a social smoker using a vape has made me feel physically better. It's also a damn sight cheaper and doesn't make your clothes stink.

The only chemical to get addicted to in vape juice is the nicotine, and then you can lower the dosage depending on how much you feel you need to feed that, whereas in tobacco there are thousands of nasty chemicals entering the body.

I personally do not see any downside to vaping. A lot of people I know have switched to it now and barely any of them have felt the need to smoke a normal fag since. Many of the scare stories surrounding the use if vapes come from tobacco industry financed studies because they are running scared.

I gave up with patches with relatively little willpower by ignoring the instructions. Give your self double the time they suggest to wean yourself and make the reduction shallower by cutting the patches in half so the drop in nicotine isnt as steep. Once you deal with the addiction the habit part of smoking isnt so hard to deal with.

Not sure tax payers money should be being wasted on your grubby little business. As a staunch right-whinger, I believe in taking responsibility for your own actions, especially ones own health. Where's your self discipline man?

Maybe it got outsourced to India so it could be exercised by kids for a fraction of the cost?

Thanks CB and SOG, I'm doing ok atm, slow and gradual but all in the right direction.

Johnny Bognor, I am using a Socialites Tornado Impact 30w and you can change wattage and voltage. I originally tried 3 different branded ecigs but didn't get on with any of them as they did not come close to giving the same hit as a normal cig. After a bit of research I found that I had to step up to these Vapouriser's to give me the hit of a cig and also the vapour.

To a none smoker this must all sound a bit desperate, but to find something that closely mimics the effects of a cigarette without the equivalent harm of a cigarette is a god send to me. I eventually want to come of the vapour as well but small steps and all that.

I'm not saying the NHS should prescribe. In fact, if they did, it would wipe my grubby little business out. I was merely highlighting that if you are a smoker, vaping is a great way to get yourself off the cigarettes. Hey and if I can make a few quid out of it, why not.

But doesn't vaping have nicotine in it...

You can buy liquids in various grades of nicotine strength from 0 to maybe 30mg although why anyone needs that much is beyond me.

There's pretty much only 4 main ingredients in vape juice. Vegetable glycerin, propylene glycerin, flavours and nicotine.
