So.... who replaces Ron?

As his Saints contract runs until July 2017 he may as well sign an extension to 2018 at least because the next Dutch National Team manager will surely get a deal until the World Cup in 2018. Mind you the way they are just now they probably won't qualify so perhaps 2017 is about right for Ronald to take over!! Probably all depends on our progress too.

Assuming he does go in 17 or 18 I would like to see us go for Eddie Howe if he has kept Bournemouth up in that time.

I'd like to see him sign a contract with an agreement in place that we will let him leave for the national team job. That may suit both parties.

I've never been opposed to the idea of Kevin Keegan becoming Saints manager. Former Saints player, still speaks highly of us, good record at every club he's been at. It's probably a bit too late for him now though.

No one mentioned Yakin?

As previously said, we have plenty of time to think about it.

TBF, Dalek does it better.

Continuity works for me...... How about Dave Watson our goalkeeping coach also seems to be England tactics relay man. Coached along by Ron in next few years?

I think that's making quite a jump. Adkins was a keeper, but spent years managing before he got a look in at a Prem side. No idea about Watson's all-round outfield coaching ability or suitability for managing a whole squad as opposed to specialist relationships with a smaller group, but I don't think "he's there at the moment" is as important as "he's definitely got the skillset and profile".

Keegan is about 15 years too late, and even that's being polite to his ability to get Fulham to the Prem with Fayed's money. Great motivator at one point, but "the bloom is off the rose" and more on that one. Would be an absolutely awful appointment, we may as well get Ron Atkinson... or Alan Shearer... in. :o

Philip Cocu. Doing a bang-up job at PSV.

Cue the "Why would he leave a big club like PSV with Champions League football, and all, to come and manage Saints?" brigade.

For the same reason Koeman left a big former European Cup winning club to come and manage a club in the Premier League.

A chance to manage in the most-moneyed league in football (I'm not saying the best league in the world, best leave that to Sky who believe it their own publicity).

That should be Frank de Boer from Ajax but it would'nt surprise me if Liverpool gets to him first...

Only if we can have Ronald as his assistant. New trend of brothers working as a team.

[Didn't actually realise that Ronald is currently the assistant manager of Ajax Youth Academy. OK, so this is perfect as a succession policy]

Not dismissing the suggestion, but why is Frank De Boer so highly sought after ?

Great player like RK, and has done well at Ajax, and appears to excell at bringing players through, but this is in a bit of a one horse race, and probably has the best - or at least most tried and trusted - Academy in Netherlands to select from.

Not looking the challenge the suggestion, but interested in the reasons for peoples choice.

I mentioned Frank de Boer in reply to Saint-IQ's remark about a "high profile Dutchy". When it has to be a Dutch manager (and for me that isn't necessary) Frank de Boer is the only other dutchman at the moment who's able to bring in something "extra" to SMS. de Boer knows how to deal with English football as he has proven with a 'not so good' Ajax against the likes of ManU and ManCity for example and he likes to play an attractive game whenever possible (keeping the opponent under pressure on their own half with high paced ball circulation). Off course this depends on the skills of the players available but I believe that the Saints do have better players than Ajax had for the last years... It would take some time to change the way the Saints play now but at least it will be more attractive. Though he says he's more than happy to stay at Ajax after more than 5 years it's expected that he will make a move for a bigger competition, probably to a bigger club than Southampton but I believe it would be better for him to start at a club with lesser expectations than Liverpool for example.

Does anyone know exactly how the managerial and coaching duties are split between Ronald, Erwin and Sammy? I'd be interested to know and would be grateful to anyone who can take the trouble to explain it. Thanks

It's as their job titles state really - Ron is Manager, Erwin is Assistant Manager, and Sammy Lee is a Coach. All take part in putting on sessions.

Wouldn't mind bielsa if he was available thought we played some great stuff under pochetinos pressing style and this guy is the master at it.

De boer like others mentioned is also a great shout

Bielsa's ideas are already a bit passe, it's been repeatedly seen that the physical toll his pressing game takes on his sides usually leads to a rapid drop off in results in the second half of the season. It's got to be managed either with smart rotation or a big squad with plenty of depth, neither of which are our strengths.
