Jonnyboy Posted 11 September, 2015 Share Posted 11 September, 2015 The taliban are nothing like they were clearly. Not sure why you are trying to compare the IRA and isis. There isn't a comparison imo. Thats true I suppose, the IRA were actually dangerous to the UK and something to worry about.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 11 September, 2015 Share Posted 11 September, 2015 Others would say we've left Afghanistan in the lurch for party political reasons and the Taleban are still a very powerful force outside of Kabul. Regarding the IRA, we're they not a group full of zealots and psychos who would gladly have tortured the enemy blown up thousands of civilians if it meant also destroying British institutions such as Parliament and the Royal family? The ira also took into account public opinion , particularly in the republic and the US . I'm sure the slight change in American public opinion towards terrorism had some influence on Adams and co " settling" . Remember , the IRA used to give " warnings " and used to attempt to minimise civilian vauslities as they knew these would turn decent Catholics against them . Isis are totally different , they're loons pure and simple

sadoldgit Posted 11 September, 2015 Author Share Posted 11 September, 2015 An interesting way for them to 'celebrate' 911 although I thought it was well known those two were at war. I think there was even a beheading video online of ISIS murdering a bunch of Al Q prisoners. Certainly the reason ISIS isn't prominent in Afghanistan is partly due to them all being rounded up and killed... by the Taliban. What a mess. What a mess indeed. 2015 and yet many still behave like savages. You have to despair for human kind.
buctootim Posted 11 September, 2015 Share Posted 11 September, 2015 What a mess indeed. 2015 and yet many still behave like savages. You have to despair for human kind. Not really. Much of the stuff which makes the front pages was so routine 40 years ago people barely commented on it. as the world gradually civilises people get more aware of / sensitive to the atrocities left. Do you think mankind is getting kinder each year?
Lighthouse Posted 11 September, 2015 Share Posted 11 September, 2015 Thats true I suppose, the IRA were actually dangerous to the UK and something to worry about. You would rather wait until some unhinged nutter, indoctrinated and trained by ISIS, traveled to the UK and blew the sh*t out of some shopping centre before we do something about it? The amount of people who live in fear is pretty sad considering 99.99% of us will never come anywhere near being in danger. Taleban, Al qaeda, Saddam, isis, all supposedly so deadly yet not one foreign fighter has hurt anyone else in the UK.

I don't live in fear I just live my life and I realise it's unlikely I'll be caught up in a terrorist attack. At the same time I realise there are people trying to commit terrorism offences and given half a chance they would do so in the UK. It's most probably die to action we take abroad including stuff we don't know about that prevents many of these atrocities from taking place. You only have to hear from the secret service to know how many plots are foiled every year. Clearly what we do stops these things from happening. Good for you but tonnes of people let the media obsession get to them. If we really wanted to wipe out ISIS it would be easy.
