SaintLondon Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Apparently we're in for their England U18 GK.. Anyone know anything about him??
VectisSaint Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 See the other thread http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?54425-Summer-Transfer-Window-2015#.VeRyEvlVhBc
Dazza82 Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Hate the fact we have to look through loads of post on that transfer thread!! Shrewsbury are good at finding young keepers that where Hart started Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
The Cat Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 I'm going to make the obligatory "my mate is a Shrewsbury fan" post here. My mate is a Shrewsbury fan and his Dad, who is a season ticket holder, thinks Lewis is just as good as Hart was at the same age. So, taking the word of one person, I'm going to state he'll be a future England star and we should snap him up given the chance.

"I've got a friend who is mates with their chairman, says it's a done deal and they're really chuffed with the fee we're paying" (Obviously not true before anyone doesn't get the obvious sarcasm)
Matthew Le God Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 His grandfather is Ken Mulhearn, who was the Man City keeper when they won the league in 1968. Shrewsbury also being the club Man City got Joe Hart from.

Appy Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Done deal, had heard all summer we were after a young goalkeeper, good to see a young English keeper, Shrewsbury's last young goalkeeper was alright.
SuperSAINT Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Done deal, had heard all summer we were after a young goalkeeper, good to see a young English keeper, Shrewsbury's last young goalkeeper was alright. Nice one. Cheers Appy.
CB Fry Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Three year deal only. Yet another deferred meltdown. Club utterly clueless etc.
SuperSAINT Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Can any of the skilled twitter peeps get a Shrewsbury verdict on him?
St Chalet Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Three year deal only. Yet another deferred meltdown. Club utterly clueless etc. Should have tied him down like we did Forecast.
SaintTex Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 I figure any English GK prospect worth his salt would salivate going to a club in which the goalkeeping coach is also the goalkeeping coach for England. On the face, this is a good speculative signing. I figure Watson knows plenty about the kid.
SuperSAINT Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/20150831-announcement-harry-lewis-southampton-shrewsbury-town-2659086.aspx
Crazy Diamond Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Always nice to hear that we're looking at promising young, homegrown players. Welcome Harry. Sorry about the mongs on social media.
Saint86 Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Three year deal only. Yet another deferred meltdown. Club utterly clueless etc. No.... stop being a tedious and insulting bell end. Can't sign a longer contract because of his age. **** me but you are a ***** at times.
david in sweden Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Should have tied him down like we did Forecast. please don't mention that name again .......
Matthew Le God Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 So this is 'The News' is it? What point are you trying to make? Would you rather Saints didn't sign promising young players for the academy?
david in sweden Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 good young keepers who can develop into a Prem. level custodian are VERY few. It takes many years - and a lot of patience - to get someone who can stay the course. The vast majority of goalies we've signed in the last 30+ years have been established keepers with a career background . If this lad is as good as is rumoured - it'll be interesting to see him develop, but with Dave Watson as goalie coach ....just maybe ....this time. Only 17.... but we can see how quickly he makes it to the U21's. In the past 10 years we've tried Bart, Chris Johns, Cody Cropper, and of course the notorious Tommy Fourpast. Gazzaniga has never been convincing and is on the last year of his contract....and we may see him going out on loan for the remainder of that.
davefizzy14 Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Sounds like a top young prospect. Welcome Harry.
Saint Charlie Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Good move. Our GK depth is awful so good to add a decent prospect into the ranks.
Matthew Le God Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Gazza on his way out? Harry Lewis is 17 years old and Gazzaniga is 23, Lewis isn't going to be close to the first team at the moment.
Whitey Grandad Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Three year deal only. Yet another deferred meltdown. Club utterly clueless etc. If he's under 18 then the maximum length is three years.
Appy Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Harry Lewis is 17 years old and Gazzaniga is 23, Lewis isn't going to be close to the first team at the moment. Nor is Gazzaniga hopefully.
Dalek2003 Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 No.... stop being a tedious and insulting bell end. Can't sign a longer contract because of his age. **** me but you are a ***** at times. I think CB FRy was trying to be ironic. Strange really as he hardly ever recognises it in other peoples posts.
niceandfriendly Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 I reckon Saint86 was aware CB was trying to be ironic but was just utterly perplexed at how boring and pathetic his attempts at it are.
VectisSaint Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Excellent. And half Kelvin's age and some...
benjii Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Disappointed with this. They've done little of note since 1986 (although "It's Hip to be Square" is a classic).
Sour Mash Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 How many times has he played for their first team?
Matthew Le God Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 How many times has he played for their first team? None, he is only 17 years old and can still play for Saints under 18s this season.
SW5 SAINT Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Should have tied him down like we did Forecast. I don't suppose he cost us as much as Forecast did.............
Lighthouse Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 What point are you trying to make? Would you rather Saints didn't sign promising young players for the academy? Woooooosh
CB Fry Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Disappointed with this. They've done little of note since 1986 (although "It's Hip to be Square" is a classic). I'm so happy to be stuck with him.
Whitey Grandad Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 I think CB FRy was trying to be ironic. Strange really as he hardly ever recognises it in other peoples posts. I'm quite sure he was, but others may not have been aware of the regulations.
suewhistle Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Should have tied him down like we did Forecast. OI! You're a moderator, no unbecoming CBFry like posts from you, ferrchrisakes.;-)
Polaroid Saint Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 I'm quite sure he was, but others may not have been aware of the regulations. The regulations clearly state that any attempt at 'Irony' or 'Sarcasm'* should accompanied by a or a , possibly even a . *I would suspect that 'Sarcasm' is the (ever-so-slightly more) correct description of Darth Fry's effort here.
trousers Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/20150831-announcement-harry-lewis-southampton-shrewsbury-town-2659086.aspx He comes across really well in that interview. Sounds full of self confidence but not in a cocky way.
Saint-Armstrong Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Harry Lewis is 17 years old and Gazzaniga is 23, Lewis isn't going to be close to the first team at the moment. ...and that doesn't mean there's a chance Paulo could go on loan to, say, a L1 club in the right circumstances?
Micky Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Disappointed with this. They've done little of note since 1986 (although "It's Hip to be Square" is a classic). Harry you biff, bloody Harry... not Huey.... aahhh forget it. Sent from my Hudl 2 using Tapatalk
Matthew Le God Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 (edited) Gazza on his way out? My point was I don't think that the signing of a 17 year old would have a big influence on what happens with Gazzaniga this season. Edited 31 August, 2015 by Matthew Le God
norwaysaint Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Aren't saints a bit of a graveyard for promising young keepers? I can't think of one who's come to anything with us. Bialkowski, Smith, Blayney, Bevan, Poke, Gazza, Cropper, all failing to come to anything. Whereas our successes have all been mature keepers on arrival. Hope this guy bucks the trend.
trousers Posted 31 August, 2015 Posted 31 August, 2015 Disappointed with this. They've done little of note since 1986 (although "It's Hip to be Square" is a classic). They're still going strong. Saw them live in London a year or so ago. (And, yes, I know I'm showing my age and slightly dodgy taste in music somewhat.... )
