Ward-Prowse and the media

I'm not sure what else he could say really......"we are relegation contenders now, our season is over, the managers heart is not really in it anymore and half the team want to leave because they want to be multi millionaires within 2 years".....believe me i'm as ****ed off as most at the terrible start we have had and my confidence as a fan is rock bottom.....but believe me i expect our highly paid team of muppets to at least talk the talk and give us fans some belief that things will change....I live in hope, which is a bit more than i did Thursday evening!

If he's asked for an interview and refuses, he will be in trouble for that. I want players to speak up and positively, to show belief when the fans are weakening. its hard to believe some peole on this site are supporters at all, just running down playersw and staff is no help to anyone. Besides its not the players who are staying who should get the stick, its the Board who have sold the starts who have to answer questions

Plenty of possible clichés to reel off:

Yes, they're disappointed but there's a lot of football to be played, that they're working hard everyday and are aware what needs to be done, that they're looking forward to welcoming players back etc.

NOT

that he thinks they were the dominant side on Thursday and unlucky to go out and get ahead of himself by saying that they can qualify for Europe all over again, when the side is searching for a first league win, never mind a decent performance.

Don't think you are obliged to be interviewed at all but Ward-Prowse is at it all the time and perhaps he needs to put in some decent on field performances before opening his mouth, especially when his words are so hollow.

He is being left behind. Best performances still come in age group football for Eng U21s. Physical constraints really hamper him compared to say Shelvey or Barkley who are miles ahead.

Shelvey is almost three years older than him, i.e. unfair comparison. Barkley is simply a better player, and there's no shame in that.

Reference interview participation, he's probably asked to do them/content is pulled from club interviews. I'm sure he'd rather spend his time doing anything else.

Wrong they are contractually obliged to be available for the media when the club asks them to be. I doubt after Thursday's shambles he would have been falling over himself to speak to the press - I am not sure exactly what else he could say.

Oh look! Another slagging off a 20 year old prem CM England u21 captain thread.

It's not JWP's fault he's in our team. Someone has to pick him....

How about we all just rate him when he's 23/24 as that would be fair.

He doesn't have to be amazing straight away?

All very true, but we need someone better right now.

He is a dud player; and will be when he's 23, 24 and 30. I'm not holding my breath thinking a "big" team are going to swoop for him one of these transfer windows. On the other hand he speaks well, is photogenic and is a good advertisement for the Academy.

He is only good enough, barely to be a reserve. About time he realised that his performances need to do his talking not pathetic sound bites.

Almost as if he was reading the criticism. A much improved display, good tempo, with some quick passes, hard work and god forbid some forward passes, A decent display from the lad.

Its what they do!

TBH - If Koemen is picking him then its because he thinks that he can do whatever role he is asking him to fulfil better than anyone else available. However, I am pleased to see him play with much more aggression today. That is what was missing from his game.

Look at this pathetic back tracking.

Its looks like all the forum idiots were caught out today, the Dell Days slags off Pelle and he gets us going and the bitter old fools Fitzhugh Fella and Derry slags JWP off and he turns in his best display.

We need one of them to start a Jay Rod is **** thread now and everything will be fine.

Time he (and others) did their talking on the pitch..... in my opinion.

Good to see his evil twin turned up today. I think he did his talking on the pitch, good performance. I found myself pinching myself how many times I applauded what he was doing during the game.

Too many sound bites come out after defeats, too much media training and not enough actual training! I detest some of the patronising comments! Also start telling the truth to us ie Victor stomach upset????????

Don't listen to/read the interviews? I mean, they're not broadcast directly into your brain, *you're* finding them

It really pi**es me off to hear the constant criticism of Targett and JWP by our so called fans. Two young lads who have been with the club since they were eight years old making their way in the game. They may or may not make the grade, that is not the point, but if we heap pressure on them by constantly moaning when the make a mistake they will start to play with fear, and that will be the end of them. At the ages they are they should be allowed to make mistakes, that is how they learn. It is the club philosophy to bring our own through and by that the club accepts the mistakes they will make. If we make it a fearful place for them to come into the team we will never bring anyone through. Even yesterday when both had good games you could still hear people groaning rather than supporting them.

It was also noticeable that two players who appeared most gutted by our exit on Thursday was Targett and Prowsey. They care, give them a break and support them.

that free kick at the start was a very good effort. great save to be fair

It was, but I think keepers get a bit of a head start with his free kicks these days - I'm struggling to think of an occasion where he's not attempted to put the ball over the wall (to the left corner when the ball is left-of-centre, and the right corner when the ball is to the right), so the keeper can effectively "cheat" the set piece by taking a starting step or two behind the wall in anticipation.

I'd like to see him go with a bit more power to the other side every now and then - he'll probably look a bit silly if it just drops straight into the keeper's hands, but it at least maintains a bit of mystery as to where he's trying to put the ball.

The reaction of Fonte after his free kick in the second half suggests he thought the same.

He didn't get the credit he deserves for his part in our first goal. The way he won the all and turned was brilliant. Had it been one of the fans favourites there would be threads about it. Perhaps at long last he has seen a chance to cement a place in the team

He did very well there. But if he messed that pass up he would of been slated. It was an easy pass. Mane takes the credit for that goal. Went exactly where it needed to go. JWP played well but so did everyone in my opinion. When it was 11 vs 11 it was not as great.

I agree with you, I think Targett's criticism to be unfair especially as he is not recognised as our number one choice and I rate him despite his slightly rocky last few games. As for J WP I agree his effort is beyond reproach but if he is going to be interviewed I just wish he kept the platitudes to a minimum. Saying we could qualify for Europe this season 24 hours after the shambles in Denmark just fans flames.

I just can't understand how so-called fans can slag off a good young player like this ... And he IS a good young player.

......with the emphasis on.... YOUNG !

An interesting comment from Roy Hodgson was replying to a question about selecting youngsters who are playing well (Sterling and Kane at that time)

..he said that (in his experience).....they might often play very well for 4-5 games, but in the long term they lacked consistancy. He is right.

Our most experienced players in recent years; Lambert, Steve Davis and Fonte as examples - always put in a shift - and rarely disappointed.

But they're not 20....and have a lot of games under their belt. A look at the great names of yesteryear shows that even Shearer and MLT took time to come good.

I've watched many Prem. games on the Net, and often felt that Sterling blew hot and cold - brilliant in one game and almost invisible in the next.

In the light of that .....I'm not surprised at the non-showing of Harry Kane since the start of the season. Great last year ... but what of the future this season ?

Neither JWP or Targett has had a real run of games - obviously they are up against better talents in the squad - but you must take your chance when it comes.

Had Nathaniel Clyne not been injured pre-season 2013-14, Chambers might still be in the U21 set-up....likewise Targett may have problems when Bertrand is fit again.

They've both had first team game time, and I'd be less worried to see their names on the team sheet in future knowing that they know which way we're kicking.

Good post!

JWP is nearly exactly 5 years younger than Morgan Schneiderlin, at his age Morgan Schneiderlin was embarking on his second year in the 3rd tier of english football. How would he of fared if he was in the top division at the same age? Impossible to know for sure but I would bet he would nowhere near the level he was the last 3 years for us. JWP being weak in the tackle as so many have put it reminds me of when Morgan first came here and Pardew told him he had to toughen up, hopefully he will improve this area in his game along with other weak areas. Some posters consistently slagging him off before saturday seem to forget that 20 years old for a CM (the most demanding postion) in the premier is extremely young, you'd be hard pressed to find a younger player in a premier league team in his position this season. The attitude towards him by some of the posters on here is incredible you'd think he was a skate! Oh yeah he was...

Hmm. Good youth team player, good A levels, fairly unglamorous as a player, has to work harder than others... surely that's got future manager written all over it? In 30 years we'll see a return investment, I'm sure.

I want to see him do well but I definitely do not want to see passengers, especially with the points we've dropped so far.

Played in the deeper role against Norwich.

Difficult to totally asses his performance due to the oppo and the RC. But had his best game in a saints shirt for some time. He played far more positive (forward) balls. Receiving the ball deep from the back 4 and/or Romeu increased his time on the ball, giving him time to hit more incisive passes. Perhaps this is his prefered position?

Can he be the next spider? Undoubtedly a better player than spider was at a comparable age. He’s certainly tidy on the ball and capable of linking defence and attack and can cover the ground. So far he’s just never developed into an effective advanced midfielder, so we all doubt him somewhat.

Certainly worth another look at him in that position I think. But long term he needs to hit the steroids and the gym….. And sort out his haircut. For an acceptable DCM style he need not look further than Romeu and classie.
