trousers Posted 18 September, 2015 Posted 18 September, 2015 Bertrand back for Swansea according to Koeman. And will play 60 minutes in Monday's U21 game
Saint Rees Posted 18 September, 2015 Posted 18 September, 2015 And will play 60 minutes in Monday's U21 game Lets hope he doesn't do a Clasie!
VectisSaint Posted 18 September, 2015 Posted 18 September, 2015 Lets hope he doesn't do a Clasie! Clasie didn't do anything. A freak accident took Clasie out.
SuperSAINT Posted 22 September, 2015 Posted 22 September, 2015 Good to see him back. Southampton FC @SouthamptonFC Midfielder @JordyClasie was back training with the rest of his teammates for the first time this morning. #saintsfc
Pass the Dutchie Posted 22 September, 2015 Posted 22 September, 2015 Koeman: "Maybe he'll be fit for Swansea. If not, then for Chelsea."

sadoldgit Posted 22 September, 2015 Posted 22 September, 2015 Maybe a bit early for him even on the bench?
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 22 September, 2015 Posted 22 September, 2015 Maybe a bit early for him even on the bench? Yeah I think so. First week back in training so seems a bit much to be on the bench.
Batman Posted 22 September, 2015 Posted 22 September, 2015 Maybe a bit early for him even on the bench? why? he has played this season and had a pre season?
sadoldgit Posted 22 September, 2015 Posted 22 September, 2015 He hasn't played for a while though has he and if he is rushed back he could pick up another injury. He wasn't looking Premiership fit before his injury so it wouldn't hurt to give him more time to catch up. Bertrand was given a game with the under 21s. You would think he would have a run out with them before risked for the 1st team.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 22 September, 2015 Posted 22 September, 2015 Bet he can't wait to get back for his one game SWF write off
scotty Posted 22 September, 2015 Posted 22 September, 2015 Bet he can't wait to get back for his one game SWF write off I'd be disappointed if he even sees it.
a1ex2001 Posted 23 September, 2015 Posted 23 September, 2015 Bet he can't wait to get back for his one game SWF write off I thought he was already injury prone and not what we needed?
St Chalet Posted 23 September, 2015 Posted 23 September, 2015 Turned an ankle in an U21 game coming back from a hamstring strain from memory.
ProxyCentauri Posted 27 September, 2015 Posted 27 September, 2015 Hopefully some progress here too.. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CPw2tpvWsAAQtHU.jpg:large
SuperMikey Posted 27 September, 2015 Posted 27 September, 2015 Hopefully some progress here too.. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CPw2tpvWsAAQtHU.jpg:large Doesn't look like FF will be coming back any time soon - they amputated half of his leg
Convict Colony Posted 27 September, 2015 Posted 27 September, 2015 Turned an ankle in an U21 game coming back from a hamstring strain from memory. Man City were attacking our goal and at the edge of the box when their chap was tackled and from there stumbled into Clasie's ankle, complete freak accident, but Clasie did an awesome pass forward for our goal.
suewhistle Posted 27 September, 2015 Posted 27 September, 2015 That machine looks great for some pre-ski season training!
suewhistle Posted 28 September, 2015 Posted 28 September, 2015 Incidentally, was anyone else surprised that Bertrand played the full 90 minutes on Saturday? Does this mean we're not rushing players back until they really are ready? Back outside now to look at the lunar eclipse again..
Professor Posted 30 September, 2015 Posted 30 September, 2015 If Clasie has recovered enough and is match fit, if only for a place on the bench on Saturday, he could give our midfield an extra attacking bite that could easily provide an extra goal. Presumably we may get some indication from RK at the press conference tomorrow if Jordy is likely to be in the squad. Clasie and Bertrand coming back is like having over £20m of new signings coming into strengthen a team that has already been playing well anyway.

Leicestersaint Posted 30 September, 2015 Posted 30 September, 2015 is clasie even an attacking player? No - but he might score an occasional goal and thus infinitely more than JWP and davis.
Professor Posted 30 September, 2015 Posted 30 September, 2015 Holy Gadzooks Batman! Even defensive midfielders such as Wanyama and Schneiderlin have not only made chances for more forward players but have, occasionally, scored themselves. I believe that Clasie has more in his locker to be offensive, even if he is played as a DM. Use the equipment in the Bat Cave to check him out. BTW, even CBs score sometimes......
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 30 September, 2015 Posted 30 September, 2015 I don't think Clasie will have any expectations to score goals to be fair. It'll be interesting to see how he fits into the team. I always thought we looked best with two 'destroyers' in the holding midfield role and the player further ahead of them to be the one who stitches play between midfield and attack. But more recently Koeman has preferred Davis to Romeu which goes against that so maybe Clasie plays deeper even though a few on here have said he has been training to play in the advanced role for us. If he does play deeper it will be interesting to see who is preferred in the more advanced role - Davis or JWP.
VectisSaint Posted 30 September, 2015 Posted 30 September, 2015 No - but he might score an occasional goal and thus infinitely more than JWP and davis. How can he score infinitely more than Davis (6 goals for Saints) or even JWP (2 goals for Saints). I hope he does score, but I'm not expecting that from him, he is more defensively minded (though RK may be converting him into a more offensive role) and like Davis and JWP I expect him to be creating chances (note that does not mean assists) for others, an occassional goal would be a bonus.

He's gone against that at home against sides we're expecting to beat (e.g. Norwich, Swansea, though not United). Fully expect VW and Romeu to start at Chelsea; what will be interesting is whether we play them away at the likes of Norwich and Swansea (we only went with VW at WBA). Like you, hard to say who gets the nod -Davis or JWP, though push come to shove, I'd go with Davis. Edited 30 September, 2015 by shurlock
Pass the Dutchie Posted 3 October, 2015 Posted 3 October, 2015 Any news on Clasie? He'll have some time to get back into it now.
trousers Posted 3 October, 2015 Posted 3 October, 2015 Any news on Clasie? He'll have some time to get back into it now. He was on the cusp of being in today's squad so will defo be back for the next game.
SO16_Saint Posted 11 October, 2015 Posted 11 October, 2015 Shane Long down in the Ireland game and doesn't look good Edit: taken off on stretcher
Saint Charlie Posted 11 October, 2015 Posted 11 October, 2015 Looked pretty innocuous to me. Hopefully just a knock.
Harry_SFC Posted 11 October, 2015 Posted 11 October, 2015 Fonte also seemed to hobble off at the end of the Portugal game. Hopefully it's nothing serious and he'll be fit for Saturday.
Matthew Le God Posted 12 October, 2015 Posted 12 October, 2015 What news on Clasie? He has been back in training for weeks and played in the friendly against Ajax last Thursday.
Saint Charlie Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 Nothing from Fonte on Instagram since the game which is unusual for him...
Georgie Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 Nothing from Fonte on Instagram since the game which is unusual for him... Has now posted on Instagram about qualifying. Nothing about any injury so hopefully wasn't that bad.
david in sweden Posted 13 October, 2015 Posted 13 October, 2015 " Injury " ...can sometimes mean ... " lack of match fitness ", through illness or other reasons. We now know that Tadic had an " injury " problem last season and often looked " off the boil ", whereas now he is back to the same standard he was a year ago. Some people seem to think that because someone is " back training with the first team squad " a favourite phrase I've noted, that he'll be in the start 11 next game. Although JayRod is back playing, he still doesn't look a patch of his performances of 18 months ago. I never forget the old quote from Alan Shearer..." there is a lot of difference between being match-fit, and being fit enough to play ".

I never forget the old quote from Alan Shearer..." there is a lot of difference between being match-fit, and being fit enough to play ". Rodriguez's match fitness 2 seasons ago came from being a starter in every match, at the moment he's in and out competing for a start in AM with on-form Mane, Tadic and Davis (and Long and Juanmi to get on from the bench). Plus when Lambert was up top Rodriguez's role was often to go past the front man and get into the box, he's not being asked to do that as much from LM, so it's not a surprise that he's scoring less OR that he's not quite as sharp - though tell that to MK.
Batman Posted 14 October, 2015 Posted 14 October, 2015 (edited) On top of big misses for Bournemouth in Gradel, Mings and Wilson, their skipper is now out for at least 10 weeks they have a horrible run of fixtures coming up now. their next 8 games or so are pretty nasty as is their run-in hard luck Edited 14 October, 2015 by Batman
Pass the Dutchie Posted 14 October, 2015 Posted 14 October, 2015 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/20151014-jordy-clasie-southampton-leicester-city-2743050.aspx
the saint in winchester Posted 14 October, 2015 Posted 14 October, 2015 Not very often you get a new signing 10 games into the season. It'll feel like that if Clasie comes in.
warsash saint Posted 15 October, 2015 Posted 15 October, 2015 So what is the extent of Long's injury?
trousers Posted 15 October, 2015 Posted 15 October, 2015 So what is the extent of Long's injury? Koeman: "Ankle ligaments. 2 - 4 weeks"
Whitey Grandad Posted 15 October, 2015 Posted 15 October, 2015 Koeman: "Ankle ligaments. 2 - 4 weeks" So... misses Leicester, Liverpool and may be on the bench for Bournemouth?
Window Cleaner Posted 15 October, 2015 Posted 15 October, 2015 And yet the BEEB says he's doubtful for the Euro play-offs mid November.
Matthew Le God Posted 15 October, 2015 Posted 15 October, 2015 Koeman: "Ankle ligaments. 2 - 4 weeks" And yet the BEEB says he's doubtful for the Euro play-offs mid November. 4 weeks from now takes us to mid November.
VectisSaint Posted 15 October, 2015 Posted 15 October, 2015 So... misses Leicester, Liverpool and may be on the bench for Bournemouth? More likely he will not be available for Sunderland either. It is usually best to use the longer date, the short date is very optimistic. Even if he was only out for 2 weeks from now, he would need a week or so training to get back to full fitness. He must be a doubt for the Euro play-offs as they are 4 weeks away. If he has not played before them I doubt that Saints would release him or would strongly advise Ireland not to play him.
