Lallana's Left Peg Posted 3 September, 2015 Share Posted 3 September, 2015 "...after a proposed move...fell through on transfer deadline day". Dont worry about the facts, just keep on making it up. To be fair Tottenham proposed the move. Their only issue was that we didn't.
pluto Posted 3 September, 2015 Share Posted 3 September, 2015 Maybe someone can email Paul Mcgoohan and ask him why the club he supports has linked journalists talking about a player from another club. A public listed email here and genuine do ask why, no silly threats. paul.mcgoohan@btinternet.com
DuncanRG Posted 3 September, 2015 Share Posted 3 September, 2015 I do think there needs to be an FA enquiry into the conduct of teams unsettling players to achieve possible transfers In an ideal world, perhaps, but the FA can't stop people talking to the press and it would be an incredibly regressive move if they did. alpine_saint Posted 3 September, 2015 Share Posted 3 September, 2015 Well, whether Big Vic really is deep-down very bothered or not, that interview transcript suggests he is trying to make the right noises, and hopefully put this mess behind him. Can only be good for us.

Bucks Saint Posted 4 September, 2015 Share Posted 4 September, 2015 To be fair Tottenham proposed the move. Their only issue was that we didn't. Ok but the proposed move "fell through" a few weeks ago when we said we get stuffed and that was it. Only the media / spurs leaks continued to make out there was a chance of anything still happening up to transfer deadline day.

angelman Posted 7 September, 2015 Share Posted 7 September, 2015 They are not then interested in selling those players to clubs, including Tottenham, who they regard as direct competitors. Every significant Southampton sale over the last three transfer windows has been to Manchester United, Arsenal or Liverpool. So Liverpool aren't seen as rivals. Or maybe they are but are just mugs. Matthew Le God Posted 7 September, 2015 Share Posted 7 September, 2015 So Liverpool aren't seen as rivals. Perhaps they are now; but at the time Lambert, Lallana and Lovren were sold, Liverpool had just finished 2nd. Things may be viewed differently now as at the time of Spurs interest in Wanyama this summer, Saints had recently finished only 2 points behind Liverpool and only 4 points behind Spurs. VectisSaint Posted 7 September, 2015 Share Posted 7 September, 2015 Perhaps they are now; but at the time Lambert, Lallana and Lovren were sold, Liverpool had just finished 2nd. Selling them Lovren helped turn them into rivals. All part of Uncle Les' cunning plan.
Santa Posted 7 September, 2015 Share Posted 7 September, 2015 If we had to let Wanyama go, we should give him to WBA in exchange for Berahino (it is a joke, not sure I would want us to have Berahino, but it could be an interesting solution to a certain club chasing both players)
Saintmike5 Posted 7 September, 2015 Share Posted 7 September, 2015 Wow, Wilson really is part of the Saints PR machine now isn't he! Not saying it's a bad thing by any means, it's nice to have one of the main 'broadsheet' journalists on-side and pushing our point of view. I know from his previous articles he's got a soft spot for us and is not a fan of Levy, but a lot of that could have been written by old uncle Les himself! Enjoyable read though - anything that helps further undermine that tight-fisted slimy bald snake is OK by me.

Matthew Le God Posted 7 September, 2015 Share Posted 7 September, 2015 (edited) They aren't. hypochondriac Posted 7 September, 2015 Share Posted 7 September, 2015 liverpool are not rivals really we won our league, they finished bottom..... Exactly. They operate with a different set of rules. We will always lose players to them, they will always be miles bigger and be able to offer players better wages and pay more.
Matthew Le God Posted 7 September, 2015 Share Posted 7 September, 2015 liverpool are not rivals really we won our league, they finished bottom..... There was a 2 point gap separating the two teams. We were competing for a league place with them and Spurs, not with QPR or Burnley as Dalek2003 and alpine_saint would have have you believe. Saint-Armstrong Posted 7 September, 2015 Share Posted 7 September, 2015 Our 'rivals' are Spurs, Everton, Swansea - maybe Palace and Stoke - and Villa have mixed it in the top flight in the past decade or so. But currently: Spurs, Everton, Swansea. Possibly Stoke. Newcastle and West Ham if their house is in order. Palace might make the step up.

Saint-Armstrong Posted 7 September, 2015 Share Posted 7 September, 2015 why possibly stoke? i'd say, very much stoke Because they haven't won in four PL games and if you get near to four games without a win then you're obviously **** and going down and the sky's falling in, etc.
NickG Posted 7 September, 2015 Share Posted 7 September, 2015 Well Clyne and Wanyama clearly don't think so. Think there is a difference between rivals and clubs that pay same wages. Clearly last season Liverpool and Spurs were our closest rivals - they were only clubs we were directly competing against for a Europa place They , therefore are likely to be our clubs rivals this season as we are ambitious It doesn't mean we have more history, bigger club or whatever silly comparison is used. In sporting terms, we are rivals They may pay a lot more, attract our/better players and we may not be able to compete in the future, and our rivals maybe lower - perhaps the way to stop that is not to sell to our rivals like Spurs? (Hate all the 'bigger' club stuff, nobody knows how you measure it and it counts for nothing (Leeds) league standing is what counts, it is asport after all not a who has biggest sponsorships competition etc )

Minsk Posted 8 September, 2015 Share Posted 8 September, 2015 Hmmm, that didn't cut and paste too well. Let's do it the long way then: Rival noun - a person or thing competing with another for the same objective or for superiority in the same field of activity. - a football who competes against another in the same division/competition verb - be or seem to be equal or comparable to - well, even Batman has been comparing Saints with Spurs and Liverpool, so I guess that would make us rivals then?
