Saints battling for Januzaj on loan?

And how does him starting in tonight's CL qualifier affect all that? Would he be allowed to play for another CL club or just an EL club?

I'm pretty sure that the registration window is open again for the group stages of both comps. So players can be re-registered across the comps if required.

Cant see LVG allowing it considering his love for Koeman.[/quote

Van Gal doesn't rate home because of his overal contribution - is that what we need ??? We already have one of those in Tadic - though I admit Januzaj would be an upgrade on him....!

On the other hand so would quite a few players be!

Would be interested to see how a Serb and a Kosovan get on in training.

More to the point he is a Belgian international. Belgians play for Spurs, not Saints.

Really can't see the attraction, doesn't appear to fit our system, why should we develop him for Man U? Think there are more interesting/useful young players out there, who maybe are not such "big names".

Ah, so I am the only one who picks Alps up on his negativity?

;)

Christ knows I wish you wouldn't bother. It's like repeatedly explaining to the forum what bears do in the woods.

It's not about developing him for Man U, if he is good enough to add something to our team at relatively low cost then it's a no brainer. I'm not really convinced by AJ yet but he does look better than Elia, Djuricic and JWP, which seems to be the bench mark for us.

Has there been mention of loan with option to buy? Haven't seen that. If not then its developing for Man U, can't see that he brings anything that we need to the team, not saying he won't turn into a fine player, but doesn't seem to fit our style and if we don't have an option to buy at end of loan is not really any great benefit, and probably just gets in the way of another academy player.

If he's a good player he's worth having, even on loan. It's like saying we were only developing Toby for Spurs, when actually he played a vital part in getting us into the Europa League. Just because he will go back to Man U potentially a better player doesn't mean he can't DAJFU.

Supposing I could guarantee he would come here and score 30 League goals, then go back to Man U. Would you still be against signing him? Obviously I can't but we shouldn't turn players down just because they're on loan. Think how much worse we'd have been in our first League 1 season without Waigo and Antonio.

Don't recall any reported issues when he and Vidic played together at Manure

You're probably right, got me thinking though, imagine if Yugoslav was still one unified country. They would have one heck of a team.

Begovic, Lovren, Srna, Rakitic, Modric, Pjanic, Mandzukic, Dzeko, Vidic, Corluka, Jovetic all in the same squad.

It is not rocket science. Put us both on ignore and enjoy your day.

Good shout. And we could probably have 3 less euro qualifying groups :)

So just collect players because they are alleged to be good players, even though they might not bring anything to our team and may block the progress of an existing player. It is about as far removed from saying we were only developing Toby for Spurs as it could possibly be, that is patently a completely daft comparison. With Toby we at least believed we had first option on buying him, and so were developing him for us, at worst we could have been accused of developing him for AM. Spurs were never even in the equation.

Bottom line is I don't see what this kid brings to Southampton, unless we have an option to buy clause in the loan. Van Gaal doesn't think he contributes (enough) at Man U, so why should we? Seems like Ronald agrees anyway, we are only looking for one more player, and that is a defender.

And yet there he is. The point stands; it doesn't matter who he might end up playing for next year, if a player is good enough to play for us now we'd be foolish not to take him on loan. If I told you a year ago that Spurs would sign Toby this summer after his loan, would you still have taken him?

Whether you think Januzaj is good enough or not is a separate issue. If that's the case then fair enough.

Could this come from the Mane story? They buy Mane and we take Januzaj on loan as cover for a year with option to buy hopefully?

I would think 'options to buy after a year' are a dead duck from Saints viewpoint after the Atletico Madrid saga.

An option to buy only works if:

a - The player actually wants to sign for us

b - We don't have some weird buy out clause which completely negates the point of an option to buy in the first place.

Neither of those was the case with Toby but we've used it in the past to our advantage with players like Chaplow, Rasiak and Saganowski.
