Good Afternoon chaps

I come in peace from The Everton Forum - I used to put pieces up on there and our news site where I'd ask questions about the coming opposition and their thoughts on us too. Looking forward to see what Southampton can do this season.

Thought I'd give it a whirl again.

Ok so...

1. What is your opinion on your manager Ronald Koeman? What are his good points and what are his bad points?

2. You have made 8 signings so far this summer, who are the ones to look out for?

3. Who will be the key threats to Everton at the weekend?

4. Where will be your weak points?

5. What are your season ambitions?

On to Everton

6. After a great first season under Martinez and disappointing second, how do you think Everton will do this season?

7. What do you make of our manager Roberto Martinez?

OK.

1. What is your opinion on your manager Ronald Koeman? What are his good points and what are his bad points? - Good - Excellent tactician and motivator. Bad - hardly anything to grumble about.

2. You have made 8 signings so far this summer, who are the ones to look out for? - Good keeper. Cedric will get forward lots, but too early to tell about the rest really.

3. Who will be the key threats to Everton at the weekend? - Mane. Quick and tricky, especially against inexperienced or older defenders. If he's on his game, most PL defenders have a real job on their hands. Pelle is strong and Tadic is good when on form. Big Vic will nail Barkley.

4. Where will be your weak points? - Defenders - missing Bertrand and it's a new-ish line up.

5. What are your season ambitions? - Realistic - Top 10, good cup run and good Europa League run past the group stage. Ambitious - Top 6, Cup win and SF of Europa.

On to Everton

6. After a great first season under Martinez and disappointing second, how do you think Everton will do this season? - Upper mid table. Fair to say you suffered with the EL last year and a few injuries. Kone and Lukaku should be a better strike force than they are. Mirallas is a good player but needs to stay fit. Small squad could hamper progress - a few injuries will be quite telling.

7. What do you make of our manager Roberto Martinez? - Comes across as a really good bloke. Formations seem a bit confusing. Everton seem a bit "stuck" at the moment. A few years ago you were nailed on 5th / 6th place, giving the big boys a real test, but now a few other teams are progressing at a pace Everton don't seem to want to keep up with. Good owner, but probably a bit too safe with the money.

8. Who do you see as the biggest threat to the Saints in the Everton side? - Always like watching Naismith. I think he's a really good player. Kone and Lukaku will be a handful, if they play together.

9. Where do you see our weaknesses? - Defensive injuries. Left back will be tested by Mane / Tadic and Soares.

Finally – Score predictions? - 3 - 2 Saints.

As a side note but i really like beating Everton. It all stems back from 1984 and Adrian f*****g Heath! Bastard!

Good Afternoon chaps

I come in peace from The Everton Forum - I used to put pieces up on there and our news site where I'd ask questions about the coming opposition and their thoughts on us too. Looking forward to see what Southampton can do this season.

Thought I'd give it a whirl again.

Ok so...

1.What is your opinion on your manager Ronald Koeman? What are his good points and what are his bad points?

He's a saints legend already and potentially the best manager we have ever had. Players respect him, he sets us up well and we performed better than anyone expected last season. Love him. Only possible downside is when things aren't going our way we sometimes leave substitutions until it is too late.

2.You have made 8 signings so far this summer, who are the ones to look out for?

It's early days so far. Soares looks great attacking but maybe needs to work on his defending a bit. I'm excited to see what Juanmi can do. Most of the signings look solid and as always with us it's about the team rather than any particular player.

3.Who will be the key threats to Everton at the weekend?

Mané. Yes he can be a bit unpredictable and throw himself to the floor sometimes but when he gets it right he is something special. Otherwise Pellè is in a good run of goalscoring form and Jay rod will be getting better every week with some minutes under his belt.

4.Where will be your weak points?

Defence and midfield at the moment. Yoshida has improved loads but still has an issue with clearing properly and last week our left side didn't look great. Bertrand is injured so our youngster Targett didn't have much cover and we looked vulnerable. We also gave Newcastle too much space in the middle as we still miss Schneiderlin. Will be interesting to see if we play any of our new signings on Saturday to correct that.

5.What are your season ambitions?

For me mid table and then go as far as we can in the cups and Europe. That would do for me.

On to Everton

6.After a great first season under Martinez and disappointing second, how do you think Everton will do this season?

I think probably better than last year. You had some unfortunate injuries but I expect all the teams below us last year to be stronger. You could do with keeping stones though.

7.What do you make of our manager Roberto Martinez?

I've always quite liked him. Tries to play football in the right way abd seems to be quite a likeable chap. Could do with setting his defence up better though...

8.Who do you see as the biggest threat to the Saints in the Everton side?

Probably lukaku. A bit like Mané, wheb he gets it right he can be great.

9.Where do you see our weaknesses?

Defence really. I hope we can exploit that.

Finally – Score predictions?

I'm confident. 2-1 saints.

Good - calm and unflappable. Renowned figure in the game. Tactically quite flexible (the reverse of which is probably a valid criticism of Pochettino

Bad - renowned figure in the game; will no doubt get offers from some very big clubs if he continues to do well.

2. You have made 8 signings so far this summer, who are the ones to look out for?

In the long term, Classie and Juanmi are both highly rated young players but will probably need a certain "bedding in" period.

In the shorter term, Cedric is a very attacking right back. He looks exciting but the jury is out on how he copes with Premier League defending.

I'm pleased with the signing of Romeu - we've effectively signed Wanayama's replacement for when he leaves next summer.

Not strictly a new signing but, after missing a whole season, it will be interesting to see how Jay Rodriguez does this season. In terms of attributes, he has pretty much everything so let's hope he can back to top form.

3. Who will be the key threats to Everton at the weekend?

Mane and Pelle as goal threats and Tadic and Mane for assists/winning free-kicks in dangerous places. Watch out for the right back, Cedric, appearing in your six yard box several times!

Mane is a top class player who will probably get sold for £30million or so.

4. Where will be your weak points?

The midfield balance hasn't seemed quite right so far. It will be interesting to see if Romeu or Classie start on Saturday. Wanyama has been doing the job of Schneiderlin as well so far this season and, although we've had good results, that can't last.

Full-back is an interesting area. As mentioned, Cedric is thus far unproven defensively. On the left, Targett is a good young player but he doesn't have the dynamism of Bertrand (who is out for a few weeks).

We're weaker at centre back without Alderweireld but he missed quite a few games last season anyway.

5. What are your season ambitions?

Qualify for Europe again next season.

On to Everton

6. After a great first season under Martinez and disappointing second, how do you think Everton will do this season?

Roughly the same. I think you will struggle defensively but, on your day, can be one of the best teams going forwards.

7. What do you make of our manager Roberto Martinez?

Seems like a nice guy but the big question mark over him is whether his teams can defend at the highest level. In his first season at Everton that didn't seem a problem but maybe that was Moyes' legacy which is now faded....

8. Who do you see as the biggest threat to the Saints in the Everton side?

Hard to answer. I think you have a lot of inconsistent players (Barkeley, Lukaku) who could be a huge threat but could equally be pretty useless. Coleman usually does pretty well against Saints so he's probably actually the one that concerns me most. If you get a lot of attacking possession then I would expect Lukaku to give Yoshida a fairly tough time. It could even be worth us playing Caulker instead to provide a bit more muscle. If we can control the game though, it will be hard for you to play to his strengths.

9. Where do you see our weaknesses?

Defence.

Finally – Score predictions?

3-1 Saints.

1. What is your opinion on your manager Ronald Koeman? What are his good points and what are his bad points?

I think the bloke is bloody fantastic. I worried we had run out of steam a little at some points last year and that did make me question his man-management capability but on the whole excellent.... with the exception of his love of Mayonnaise, that sh*t is vile.

2. You have made 8 signings so far this summer, who are the ones to look out for?

Soares at RB looks to be a good attacking threat, Juanmi also could be tricky going forward. There is a lot of focus on Clasie as a Schneiderlin replacement and he will be key to our midfield shape should he play.

3. Who will be the key threats to Everton at the weekend?

Mané, our wonderfully rapid forward threat, he will be creating space for others to thrive whilst also being a massive threat in his own right.

4. Where will be your weak points?

Defence. We really miss Alderweireld and Morgan, without their presence we have looked a little less then water-tight.

5. What are your season ambitions?

I would bite your hands off for a cup final. I have no expectation on being top 7 again but would be disappointed to be outside of the top half.

On to Everton

6. After a great first season under Martinez and disappointing second, how do you think Everton will do this season?

I feel Everton are stagnating under Martinez, you will be in no danger but equally there will be little to shout about either.

7. What do you make of our manager Roberto Martinez?

A principled man is a good thing, a naive one quite another. I admire how he tries to play football but he seems to have hit his glass ceiling, an inferior Arsene Wenger.

8. Who do you see as the biggest threat to the Saints in the Everton side?

Barkley is obvious, Lukaku on form can bully Yoshida and Fonte. Also, Seamus Coleman for some reason seems to love playing against us.

9. Where do you see our weaknesses?

Central defence. Stones will be distracted with the Chelsea interest, I hope to see Pelle capitalise on that.

Score Prediction: Saints 2-1 Everton.

Welcome to the SWF. To answer your Qs:

1) Koeman has done a simply superb job, alongside his backroom team including his brother Erwin, who was a leading player himself and Sammy Lee (not a popular name with Evertonians I suspect). His strengths are his calmness - and boy we needed it last summer - and ability to make changes when he can see momentum shift in a game.

2) Our highest profile summer signing Jordi Clasie, the Dutch international midfielder, is looking unlikely to be fit for the Everton game but hopes are high for him. Romeu has just joined with a fine pedigree from Barca and Chelsea and may feature on Saturday. Juanmi joined from Malaga, recently capped by Spain as a striker/wide player and looks lively from the cameos so far. Caulker and Martina have been signed as back-up I suspect. We still look likely to make a couple more signings in the CM/CB areas. Rodriguez is almost like a new signing after 16 months out with an ACL.

3) Pelle's ability in the air - as demonstrated last Sunday. He's begun the season brightly, netting twice in Europe so far as well. Long is a livewire and ended last season well and has got a couple in the bag so far this term. Not prolific but quick and direct. J Rod will take time to get some match fitness under his belt but could be a devastating sub. Sadio Mane is another forward with rapid pace but has added unpredictability - if he continues to improve his finishing (should have scored a winner at SJP), he'll be our first £30m+ sale. Our drawback is a lack of goals from midfield.

4) As above really - Davis is a very consistent performer but not a good finisher e.g. Spurs home last year and JWP has shown promise to get forward but yet to deliver consistently from set pieces or making penetrating late runs. We've missed Morgan's defensive screen but Romeu should compensate for that along with Wanyama although hard to replace Morgan's to switch play.

5) Top 8 and a decent Europa campaign. Top 10 I wouldn't be disappointed by.

6) Hard to say, your manager has said you are probably 3-4 faces short and I'd agree although you should be top 10 even so. Baines being missing is a big blow for you but Lukaku is always a threat as is Mirallas. Barkley should improve after a noticeable dip last term. What Everton need is a better screen in front of the back 4 - the more open style worked a treat in Roberto's first season but teams starting working Everton out and Watford made late runs look easy last week. I'm not suggesting returning to the Moyes era but there is a balance between being attractive but harder to score against.

7) I like him and his approach to football but do think he could more pragmatic at times away from home.

8) Lukaku! Ripped us apart in the first season back in the PL on loan at WBA. He's always a handful. Barkley could be dangerous getting forward so we must close him down quickly from range as he seems to be getting his mojo back. Coleman can also let them go from range (e.g. 2013/14 at Goodison) and Kone is back after a horrible knee injury so hope for J Rod.

9) Jagielka is a well organised centre half but with our pace from deep lying areas, could be vulnerable on the counter. If Stones leaves and with Baines out, you could have to knit a new backline together quite quickly in the early part of the campaign which always involves a bit of risk, as we may find out with our new look midfield and our own injuries cost us at Newcastle.

Best of luck for the season apart from Saturday.

PS - Any chance of another OG?

1. What is your opinion on your manager Ronald Koeman? What are his good points and what are his bad points? Koeman has been great since he joined the club, will be good to see how we do in his second season but i am still optimistic. His good points are his ability to motivate our players and seems to have made us relatively solid defensively whilst still allowing us to play some exciting football. Weak points: Does seem to have a tendancy to sign players from Holland typically and we have stopped signing as many English players like we had been doing prior (Clyne, Rodriguez, Forster, etc). But that may well be down to the market in general with regards English talent not just him.

2. You have made 8 signings so far this summer, who are the ones to look out for? I would say if we are looking at the transfers in Juanmi could turn out to be an exciting one to watch. He has a lot of pace, and has been called up to the Spain team so can't be that bad! Also Romeu looks like he could be a shrewd bit of business.

3. Who will be the key threats to Everton at the weekend? Mane. If he is on form, he can grab a couple at least from almost out of nothing. Bigger clubs may come for him next summer.

4. Where will be your weak points? Without wanting to be too harsh on the lad, Matt Targett is probably a weak point. Depending on who your wingers are that day, they could get by him every now and again - He is still young though and only filling in for Bertrand so can't fault him too much like some others.

5. What are your season ambitions? Ideally if we can sign another CB (Van Djik) at least 8th again and i'd be pretty happy. That may not sound too ambitious but given a lot of teams are looking smart so far with transfers (Stoke in particular) it would be good if we could cement this spot and if we can push on higher - which i think is possible - then great.

On to Everton

6. After a great first season under Martinez and disappointing second, how do you think Everton will do this season? Not sure, I like Martinez but also can see that he benefited from the solid defensive organisation that Moyes left you behind in his 1st season. To then going back to a similar defensive shape and the issues that come with that from his time at Wigan - but at least you no longer have Alcaraz. Can see US and you lot fighting for similar spots within the top 10.

7. What do you make of our manager Roberto Martinez? As above, plays expansive football and a nice guy but perhaps defensively naive.

8. Who do you see as the biggest threat to the Saints in the Everton side? Lukaku. I remember when he played against us at St.Mary's for WBA and tore us a new one. I'm glad that player didnt turn up last season but there's always the chance he could destroy someone like Yoshida with their respective sizes.

9. Where do you see our weaknesses? Not sure I can say much about your weakness other than maybe being caught on the break by Mane-Long-Rodriguez-Juanmi, depends how you set up to play us. Plus without being disrespectful I don't think your CM's will have much fun against Wanyama at home especially now we have Romeu next to him

1. What is your opinion on your manager Ronald Koeman? What are his good points and what are his bad points?

Best manager we've had in my personal lifetime, also the most successful. Can't see him sticking here for too long but he's changed the club for the greater and seems to be an absolutely top bloke as well. Can't think of too many negatives either which is mental these days.

2. You have made 8 signings so far this summer, who are the ones to look out for?

I like Juanmi, he isn't a first choice player right now but he looks really good. Clasie and Cedric will be good signings for us and van Dijk if it comes off also.

3. Who will be the key threats to Everton at the weekend?

Sadio Mane

4. Where will be your weak points?

Maya Yoshida and Matt Targett (CB & LB)

5. What are your season ambitions?

8th/9th/10th in the league as well as progressing through the groups in the EL and maybe a little cup run.

On to Everton

6. After a great first season under Martinez and disappointing second, how do you think Everton will do this season?

You've got to do better, if he's not hitting top 8 this season then I think he has to go. Your first team is the best it's been in a long time and even though you definitely need 1/2 more you've done brilliant to tie McCarthy down.

7. What do you make of our manager Roberto Martinez?

He's alright. Last season was dreadful and I personally don't see how he can stick with Naismith so often.

8. Who do you see as the biggest threat to the Saints in the Everton side?

Nobody really, especially with us at home. I'm not overly worried by Lukaku and I have no idea if Kone will start given how he did the other day. If I had to choose somebody it'd be Mirallas, if he shows up it's always a problem.

9. Where do you see our weaknesses?

Tim Howard in goal as well as your second CDM.

8. Who do you see as the biggest threat to the Saints in the Everton side?

9. Where do you see our weaknesses?

Finally – Score predictions?

1. Love him, seems to have a good eye for a player and is a real straight shooter. Weakness, not really seen it yet for us but he has been sacked before so can't be perfect!

2. Cedric at RB will spend most of his time in the oppo half and has a good cross on him, Clasie looks like a very good long term prospect but, by all accounts, is not up to speed yet.

3. Key threats will be Mane - when given freedom can take teams apart on his day, Pelle - has started in good goal scoring form and, though not a goal threat, Wanayama has started the season looking imperious. Will put real pressure on Everton's midfield though McCarthy will give him a good battle!

4. Left back is weak. Targett is decent and has potential but is not there yet. Also our CM may lack creativity if Clasie is not fit.

5. Anywhere in the top half and a run in the euro cup would be fantastic though maintaining our place as the 'best of' the also rans ahead of yourselves, swansea etc would be great. As would finishing above Spurs and/or Liverhampton.

6. 8th. Everton have some real quality and underperformed last year but I fear you lack depth, particularly in defence.

7. Yet to be convinced. Seems to have good football ideas but has had issues organising a defence both with you and Wigan. Would be interesting to see if he could build with more resources at Everton - should Kenwright be able to find additional backing.

8. Lukaku. He has the ability to torment defences on his day. I also have a soft spot for Barkley, I can't help but see shades of Gazza in the young lad and his finish last week was special!

9. Mainly depth. The lad has a goal in him but Kone does not strike me as a top quality striker and Lukaku is yet to find consistency to match his ability.

Score prediction - scrappy 2-1 win for Saints.

Thanks and all the best!

1. What is your opinion on your manager Ronald Koeman? What are his good points and what are his bad points?

Absolutely love him. Great character who exudes calmness and authority and knows how to get us playing good football but can also change things up where things may not be working. I get the impression he is a good motivator, as at times last season in games we had been a bit off the pace in the first half, he had us playing better the second half. He also seems like a thoroughly decent man, which makes it easier to get behind him and support him as he's not an arrogant character like Rogers, Van Gaal, Mourinho etc.

2. You have made 8 signings so far this summer, who are the ones to look out for?

Van Dijk ;) I like the look of Cedric, Stekelenburg and Romeu. Clasie will be great when he has adapted to the league, too.

3. Who will be the key threats to Everton at the weekend?

Own goals. 3 in 2 games at St Mary's so hoping for a similar showing from him this time out!! Joking aside, Pelle is bang on form with 3 goals in 3 competitive games, Mané has the ability to hurt any team in the league when he wants. Wanyama will be vital in keeping Barkley quiet and moving the ball on to those in front who can cause damage.

4. Where will be your weak points?

Left Back. With Bertrand out injured, Targett (despite being very good) is not quite there yet and Rodriguez didn't help defensively enough against Newcastle so he was left a little exposed.

5. What are your season ambitions?

Maintain a top half finish and push on in Europe. I think we'll get to the group stages and then progression depends on who we're drawn with. I don't see us giving either cup a serious go this year, although the squad is arguably better prepared to challenge on multiple fronts than last year.

On to Everton

6. After a great first season under Martinez and disappointing second, how do you think Everton will do this season?

Top 10, maybe. If Martinez can get you playing as consistently well this time out as he did in his first season then I think you'll be around mid table but other teams, on the face of it, have strengthened more that you have this year so I think you'll be playing catch up a bit in the league.

7. What do you make of our manager Roberto Martinez?

I like him, although I don't think he'll ever go on to become a top, top manager. Has always done OK wherever he's been, and showed he could get a team to the right end of the league in his first season with you, but before that he's never set the world alight and only has a 40% win rate as a manager in 8 years of managing .

8. Who do you see as the biggest threat to the Saints in the Everton side?

Barkley, Coleman or Mirallas if he plays.

9. Where do you see our weaknesses?

Not having Baines (although you must be used to that by now!) might be a bit of a blow, maybe Stones? Speculation over a players future has been known to have an effect on their performance.

Finally – Score predictions?

3-1 Saints

1. What is your opinion on your manager Ronald Koeman? What are his good points and what are his bad points?

He's amazing, level headed, a perfect fit for the club, has a sense of humour, proven player and happiest I've been with a manager since Strachan. His bad points are that he won't retweet my photos of me eating chips with ketchup (not mayo) from Holland preseason. That's literally the only bad thing I have to say about him.

2. You have made 8 signings so far this summer, who are the ones to look out for?

Stekelenburg has been outstanding so far on the few occasions he's been troubled, behind a less than stellar defence still missing Alderweireld and Schneiderlin's influence. Cedric is already showing signs of being a more than adequate Clyne replacement and Romeu and Clasie might help with shoring up in front the previously strong defence. Juanmi might have an upside but hasn't played much yet, and Rodriguez, as the cliche goes, is like a new signing after 16 months out.

3. Who will be the key threats to Everton at the weekend?

Mane and Pelle - oh and your defence scoring own goals if the last two visits are anything to go by. Wanyama has been a monster the past few matches and has been everywhere just getting the ball back and using it well, stepping up his involvement nicely now Schneiderlin has left.

4. Where will be your weak points?

Targett's not as accomplished as Bertrand at left back so we lose something going forward from there, and the defence is still reshaping with Yoshida/Caulker alongside Fonte. There's a huge Schneiderlin-sized gap in midfield which I'm hopeful Romeu or Clasie can fill, but we're not the rock-solid unit we were for most of last year and Yoshida is usually good for one gift a match. Not conceding two goals would be nice, it's been happening a lot recently.

5. What are your season ambitions?

Last 16 of the Europa League and top 10 would be fine by me, though winning something or even just getting to Wembley (preferably twice) would be great too. Can't see us matching last year's league finish unless we sign someone superb to play CB, and even then the defensive midfield is likely not to be as good.

On to Everton

6. After a great first season under Martinez and disappointing second, how do you think Everton will do this season?

The lack of European football should make things a bit easier, top half, in and around Saints, Palace, Swansea and Stoke for the places not taken by the usual suspects. Injury problems will need to go away soon to challenge the top 6.

7. What do you make of our manager Roberto Martinez?

Honest, considered manager with his systems and a pile of planning, you seem like a good fit provided he doesn't see your goals as the same as the ones Wigan had.

8. Who do you see as the biggest threat to the Saints in the Everton side?

Lukaku, more on reputation than ability in the past year though. Deulofeu looked decent when he was on loan before so could be a problem if he gets up to speed quickly.

9. Where do you see our weaknesses?

Can't say I've been paying too much attention, but losing Baines has got to hurt, and the kid you've plugged in there will probably be tested.

Finally – Score predictions? 2-1 Saints.
