Saint-Armstrong Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 (edited) @JackPittBrooke: Exclusive: Oriol Romeu close to joining Southampton from Chelsea on a permanent deal. More on @IndyFootball soon. @JackPittBrooke: Oriol Romeu is having a medical at Southampton today after a fee was agreed between the clubs. Saints hope to confirm the move later today. Former Barcelona, Chelsea and Valencia defensive midfielder. Still only 23. Edited 12 August, 2015 by Saint-Armstrong
pillock69 Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Adam Leitch confirms it too: Oriol Romeu to #saintsfc deal is on. Will be a permanent transfer from #CFC rather than a loan
Webby Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Never heard of him....which means he'll be brilliant.
Mattio Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Slightly odd move but still young, and played at huge clubs. Would be interesting to see how much we spend on him
trousers Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 (edited) Never heard of him....which means he'll be brilliant. This edit: he fits the profile of the kind of player we target though.... young, bags of potential, champions league appearances, plenty of 'Under xx' appearances for Spain, hungry , etc. Edited 12 August, 2015 by trousers
Saints foreva Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Come on then, get the YouTube footage up so people can claim they've seen him play plenty of times.
Saint Charlie Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Always thought he was quite decent when he played for Chelsea. Adds to midfield options and is a proper holding player which is good. Decent age and experience of English football at probably a low fee. Good deal.
Tommog Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Don't know much about Romeu, but I have to say I love the tactic of going after the "big clubs" young players. It actually uses our club's size as an advantage rather than a disadvantage. Gets so depressing hearing people say "of course we are going to lose our players we are a small club"... true, but where's the ambition? I dont want to see us just get pillaged and accept we are easy prey. But, by going after players that bigger clubs might want to hold on to for 2-3 years time we can offer them a fantastic development at a growing club and put the likes of Chelsea in an awkward position of either gambling he won't be a first team player in the future or cough up for someone that might never break through.
Trout-Tickler Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Hope the medical guys give his knees a good examination. According to Wiki he's had a couple of knee injuries!

saintgeorge8 Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Can Guan, K Billy or Monk confirm this? [emoji5]️
Pancake Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 This edit: he fits the profile of the kind of player we target though.... young, bags of potential, champions league appearances, plenty of 'Under xx' appearances for Spain, hungry , etc. How did he manage to play for both Spain and Hungary??
buctootim Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Signed for Barcelona, didn't play. Signed for Chelsea, didn't play. With a bit of luck he has realised what Bertrand did - theres more glamour and satisfaction in doing well for Saints than not appearing at a 'named' club.
ErwinK1961 Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Hope the medical guys give his knees a good examination. According to Wiki he's had a couple of knee injuries! Yeah just seen that myself.... interesting signing along similar lines to Bertrand. Hope he can have the same impact.
trousers Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 How did he manage to play for both Spain and Hungary?? Cosmopolitan grandparents and a secret identical twin
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 The Cork replacement. Plays like him in exactly the same way as far as I can see.
Pastor Patrón Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Sounds a quality signing, the squads looking pretty much complete if we get him and Van Dijk. I'd still like another big striker if I'm being fussy but other then that it'd be decent.
Saint Charlie Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Signed for Barcelona, didn't play. Signed for Chelsea, didn't play. With a bit of luck he has realised what Bertrand did - theres more glamour and satisfaction in doing well for Saints than not appearing at a 'named' club. To be fair, he did play when he first went to Chelsea and was good. He then got a nasty injury and when he recovered AVB who gave him a chance had long gone.
Pancake Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 The Cork replacement. Plays like him in exactly the same way as far as I can see. Sideways with a mouthy Dad on Twitter and a faf missus?
Wiggles31 Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Brilliant. Get in VVD and what a window. Didn't know he was only 23.
Dan Johnson Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Great pedigree for a young player, could be a shrewd.
SO16_Saint Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Wikipedia is already updated, quick work guys https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oriol_Romeu#Club_career
SuperSAINT Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 I mainly remember Romeu from FM. Seem to recall him joining from Barca and he was very highly rated. Surprised he's still there.
Saint IQ Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Some Chelsea fans saying he deserved more of a chance and they prefer him to Mikel. Hopefully proves to be a shrewd signing.
Saint IQ Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 I've never been that impressed with him TBH but haven't seen much of him and trust Koeman/Reeds judgement over mine
notnowcato Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Very happy if this is true, perfect fit for us.
saintray Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 With the risk of being crucified have just had a text from a chelsea source that he is having a medical today. Normally very reliable Sent from my GT-I9515 using Tapatalk
Saint Pete Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Looks like a decent signing, should be keen to prove what he can do.
SuperSAINT Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/oriol-romeu-to-southampton-chelsea-midfielder-closing-in-on-st-marys-move-10451602.html
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Sideways with a mouthy Dad on Twitter and a faf missus? Tall but not overly strong, uses his body well to protect and win the ball, not quick but uses ball well, very one footed. It's like he is almost a carbon copy.

He seems reliable https://twitter.com/JackPittBrooke
alpine_saint Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Interesting move. Get him and VVD in and I would declare myself satisfied.
Saint-Armstrong Posted 12 August, 2015 Author Posted 12 August, 2015 Just spoken to my mate, who has been a Chelsea STH for yonks. - Very physically strong - Very consistent - Don't expect an attacking threat, but solid defensively - He'd prefer Romeu to Mikel in their side - Looked good under AVB and Benitez, got injured - no chance from Mourinho - Can be a little bit slow on the ball at times, but that may change with more playing time - Likes to anchor the midfield and content to let others charge upfield and 'hold the fort'
Saint IQ Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Interesting move. Get him and VVD in and I would declare myself satisfied. Praise the Lord!
CB Saint Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 I give him thirty minutes in his first game before people on here write him off.
BotleySaint Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Interesting move. Get him and VVD in and I would declare myself satisfied. Agreed!
saint_stevo Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 i always liked what i saw when given a chance at Chelsea. Used the ball intelligently and a decent size for a DMF. for a decent fee would be a good signing for us
alpine_saint Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Praise the Lord! F**k me, should I carry on complaining then ?
Jimmy_D Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 So, does this mean Chelsea are our feeder club now?
SuperMikey Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Ticks all the boxes for me - can play DM and CB, physical so can step in for Vic when needed, good pedigree at bigger clubs and still young enough to improve. Would be happy with this one!
Pilchards Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 [h=2][/h]Posted this a few days ago and maybe this guy I spoke too did have something from inside: Latest snippet I've heard, Celtic are trying to get a Scandinavian CB in so that Van Dijk can leave. We are after a loan signing plus a top midfielder with premiership experience. Pinch of salt job from me. IMHO this guy from Chelsea could be the permanent signing so we are after a loan one still?
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Romeu, Romeu, wherefore art thou Romeu?
alpine_saint Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Ticks all the boxes for me - can play DM and CB, physical so can step in for Vic when needed, good pedigree at bigger clubs and still young enough to improve. Would be happy with this one! Could this infer we have given up on VVD ? Lets not forget we already signed Caulker
Mr Saints Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Excellent, much needed strength in holding midfield. Vic has been doing the job of 2 men in the 3 competitive games so far.
buctootim Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Romeu' date=' Romeu, wherefore art thou Romeu?[/quote'] Having a medical apparently
Leo_ARG Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Excellent, much needed strength in holding midfield. Vic has been doing the job of 2 men in the 3 competitive games so far. Exactly, sir. So happy to see this. I was getting worried, we needed this type of player badly.
doddisalegend Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 If we are taking this guy can we get Chelsea's doctor as well appears she has incurred the wrath of the special one. Always think the medical team is very important at any club and she looks good..........................at her ermmm job
verlaine1979 Posted 12 August, 2015 Posted 12 August, 2015 Could this infer we have given up on VVD ? Lets not forget we already signed Caulker Doubt it - Mascherano is pretty much the only DM I can think of who has successfully converted to a regular CB.
