Decent write up for the new season.

One question - Who the hell is Consortium11? and is he/she/it on here?

If Consortium 11 were here, you would know. The site's entire word count output would treble. It's amazing to see a single poster become an actual reason why people rush to the Guardian's Saints reports.

Decent preview of our season, they do at least realise our weaknesses, without making a big deal out of them. Of course the piece is a bit out of date, written before Caulker signed (but in the pipeline) and not knowing about Gardos. Pity we have to be subjected to the tedious Illingsworth again in the video, but hey-ho.

Jacob Steinberg seems to always preview us and is normally spot on.

Wasn't this 'airbrushed from history' though?

If there is one other cause for concern, it is perhaps the way Southampton’s results tailed off during the run-in: they won five and lost eight of their final 16 matches – and three of those wins came against the sides who went down.

Personally I found Consortium's comments overly verbose in some attempt to show how clever (s)he is, often irrelevant and if I'm honest, boring.

I couldn't read it all... it just went on and on and my eyes became very heavy. He/she has become a bit of a leg end on that site though.

That Consortium bloke's having a laugh. If Shakespeare were posting on football websites I wouldn't give him more than two short paragraphs, maybe a sonnet.

Article is pretty fair. One small quibble. I don't agree we lost matches towards the end of the season because we were found out. This seems a little inconsistent with recognition in the article that Koeman is tactically aware and flexible. I think it was more to do with small squad size/

Ah, Southampton. Everyone loves Southampton. With their successful youth system and their attacking football and their ability to replace big money leavers and remain successful on their terms and their extremely verbose but unfailingly polite posters on here. Sickeningly nice. Even I like them. Bastards.

I read all of consortium11's posts. It took me over an hour with interuptions, because my family wanted to know if I was still alive.

Anyway what I took away from it was that we need to be like Scipio Aftacanus and burn down Singapore to remove Manchester United's source of resources.

Louise Taylor in the Guardian again:

Five new signings to watch

Cuco Martina (Southampton)

The 25-year-old former Twente right-back has become the first Curaçao international to play for Southampton. Who knows, the Rotterdam-born Martina may well inspire his new public to visit the little-known but seemingly idyllic Dutch Caribbean Island. Highly versatile he is also capable of playing at left-back, centre-half and in a defensive midfield role. Indeed, despite being signed as a replacement for Nathaniel Clyne, Ryan Bertrand’s recent knee surgery dictates Martina has operated at left-back during pre-season. His acquisition was recommended by Erwin Koeman, Southampton’s assistant manager (and the brother of their manager, Ronald) who has coached Martina in the Netherlands.

The Times 'the Game extra' pre season guide notes, brilliantly, that Saints three key outs are "Clyne, Schneiderlin and Jos Hooiveld".

Also in The Times today:

'There are six teams, at most, who go into this season with hopes of mounting a title challenge. Throw in Southampton and you have seven who might consider challenging for the Champions League.'

That's nice :)
