Well, someone's got to start this thread - can't believe it hasn't been started already. A chance to show off your skills, or a chance to be laughed at in 9 months time ...

So, premier league positions, and I suppose we should add in cup winners (league and fa), euro winners, where we will finish in the three cups, and who will win the sack race. I'm going for:

Premier league

Chelsea

Man City

Arsenal

Man U

Liverpool

Everton

Spurs

Stoke

Saints

Palace

Swansea

West Ham

Newcastle

West brom

Villa

Sunderland

Leicester

Bournemouth

Norwich

Watford

Fa cup Chelsea ( saints semi finals)

League cup Man U (saints round 3)

Champions league Barcelona

UEFA cup Man City (saints first knockout round)

Sack race ... Got to be Watford.

Stoke

Saints

Out of interest, why do you think Stoke will finish above us? From last season they've lost key players Begovic, N'Zonzi, Moses and Shawcross is injured. Perhaps their new signings will click like ours did, but I don't think they have enough quality to overtake us.

I just think the extra games in Europe will take their toll. I don't think for one second we will do a hull, but Everton last season might be a better indicator. Finished strongly but had a bad patch mid season as far as I remember.

Without Europe I'd think we could challenge for 6th, possibly 5 th. not that I'd rather we weren't in Europe before Turkish pipes up ...

its like suggesting that we would not finish above everton last season...as we lost all sorts.

Think this thread was started a few pages ago.

For me the league is too hard to predict, not even any dead certs for relegation. Top 4 will be same as last year, just in a different order - Chelsea, Arsenal, City, Utd - and bottom 3 will be Watford, Leicester and Norwich in any order.

Saints about 8th.

I think United to win the league. Chelsea, City and Arsenal to round out the top 4. Liverpool next, Spurs and then us / swansea / everton / stoke. palace maybe to sneak top 10 instead of stoke. Could see all three promoted teams getting relegated although would like to see any of villa, leicester or sunderland to go down

It doesn't feel like we've had a break at all this year, it's come around so quickly.

It's always funny looking back at these threads 10 months on, as you either look like a genius or a little silly!

I'll put my neck on the line and make a few calls.

I think Watford will struggle big style. Too many signings, too much change. Bournemouth will do better than them, but will ultimately fall short. Bit boring and standard, but I think Norwich will go down again as well. My 'surprise' call is for WHU to struggle all season, I just don't like the way they've done things this summer.

I fancy Chelsea to retain the league, just. I think Arsenal and Utd will give them a run for their money this year - but City will threaten to open the 4th place door wide open to a Liverpool or a Spurs.

We should do Top 10 I'd have thought. I think a lot is made of the extra games in Europe and a lot of managers use it as a convenient excuse a lot of the time. If we're still in Europe after Christmas and finish in the Top 10 of the PL then that will be an incredibly impressive season for me.

What are we actually playing for? in all seriousness? these big clubs splashing out hundreds of millions you might aswell hand them the title before even kicking a ball..... Tactics? Skill? no it's a case of which carlos kick a balls I can bring in with my ridiculous transfer kitty.

Premier league is like watching paint dry.... Why can't they mix it up a bit and put a limit on the amount big clubs can spend? and give the others an actual chance of breaking into the top 4?

Unless we throw stupid money at the squad then we can only hope for top 6 at best.......

And that's fine by me. That would mean I get to see my team winning a fair few games in the top league, and against some of the biggest teams in the world. We're simply not going to become one of the 'big' lot, so it's about accepting that and just enjoying the ride. I'd much rather be here than struggling to make the playoffs in the NPC.

Ah another enlightened soul. As I often say, while I love Saints, I hate football and this is why. The PL is ghastly. Having said that, there are slightly more "big" clubs in it than in other leagues in Europe, but that is to me offset by the obscene amounts of money. But then it seems everyone outside of the big boys is also shelling out huge amounts for very average players,

So I guess we are playing for the Europa League and the chance to be in it again next year. We could have done CL last year, but we didn't. Now, I just want to be entertained, which of course means winning (or a draw like vs Chelsea).

You so sometimes wonder what it is all about these days, more big business than sport. Just so that people on the other side of the world can jump up and down with excitement and identify with 'their" team (one of the big four) sweeping all before them.

The predictions bit is the easy part these days. Most people on here have got a pretty good idea of how the final table will look come next March, the only excitement maybe someone like Wham struggling.

I predict Chelsea to grind their way to the league title, I'd like to see Arsenal win it but they won't. The two Manchester clubs could go either way - both seem to me to be on the cusp of greatness or meltdown (meltdown meaning, well, finishing fifth). I don't like City but would be happy to see United win the league, especially now that they have Morgan.

I'm saying City might just do the meltdown thing and finish fifth, with Liverpool taking fourth. Spurs sixth or seventh.

Everton and Newcastle will fight us for the top seventh/eighth spots. I think we'll struggle with too many fixtures and end up 9th.

Palace and Villa, I think, will nudge past Swansea and be in that solid mid table pack with Stoke and WBA. I'd like to see Palace finish top of that lot. Swansea won't be in that fight and will finish 14th, with lots of MOTD analysis about "what's gone wrong at Swansea?" all season.

WHU will have a sh it season but won't go down, Sunderland will have the same season again and will have some other chump manager saving them come March.

Down will be Leicester, probably in a three manager season, Watford and Bournemouth, who will have an archetypal "they were fourth in September, you know" cliche debut season.

Watford will sack a manager before Christmas and have a 16 point season of humiliation.

Manchester United will definitely win the FA Cup and Manchester United will definitely not win the league cup. Chelsea will.

Strange. You say you dont like all the "ghastly" money stuff, but you seem disappointed we didn't make it to the Champions League, the most "ghastly " money-centric football competition in the history of the world.

Not disappointed particularly, but it falls under my love Saints/hate football feeling. I am aware that Saints are fully involved with the money side of things, just on a lesser scale than some and more than others. But getting to CL is one of the aims of the league, the one below winning it. I find it difficult to get fully enthusiastic about being in a competition where 2, maybe 3, of the 20 participants have a chance of winning it. I am also realistic that we likely won't get CL, so I guess if I am still going to support Saints (rather than giving up football totally), then I guess I have to hope we get CL but more realistically EL as the lesser and more achievable goal.

You could be like me and believe that wishing to finish fourth in league to achieve the right to enter a qualification round of another competition we can't possibly win is not actually an "achievement".

It's only an achievement or in your words "one of the aims of the league" because of the money involved, which you said was ghastly.

I think you should get behind us trying to a) win the FA Cup b) win the League Cup c) win the Europa League.

Three things that actually are achievements. There's some "main aims" right there. Get on board.

Yes, Europa League is more "worthy" (worth being defined in this instance by whether you can win the competition you are in) than the PL. FA & League Cups have been devalued by too many teams not taking it seriously and playing U18s, including Saints under MP.

Devalued by who? Sky? Rich clubs controlled by money that say you don't like? You "hate" them/say they're ghastly but accept their agenda?

Well it is not devalued by me. I wanted us to win the FA Cup when I was 10 and I still do with exactly the same passion today. Not one once of devaluation from me.

Try it yourself.

Devaluation is in the eye of the beholder. Embrace achievement, success and silverware.

I predict a tight premier league with arsenal fading away in April, Man United running Chelsea close and Man City and Liverpool battling it out for fourth. Spurs will finish 6th never seriously threatening the top 4.

Saints will finish 10th, Make the group stages of Europa and have a decent run the league and FA cups. This forum will go into meltdown about February time blaming the Europa league for all our ills, but when our injuries and suspensions clear up and we hit form again in March those same people will be desperate to qualify again and blaming our failure to make a major signing in the January transfer window with the club showing a lack of ambition to push on.

Given the choice between an FA cup final and last day of the season, winner takes all, play off type game for a shot at 6th then I know which one I'd take all day long. A cup final is a nice day out but finishing 6th would take the club to the next level. Or something.

Ridiculous. How you see it and whether you think it devalued or not has absolutely nothing whatsoever to which team gets selected.

Sunderland away.

What's that got to do with anything? I was gutted at Sunderland away. I was more gutted at SUFC away as I was there, because I want us to win trophies. I think I mentioned that.

I hate the way football is all about money these days it makes me sick all the greed and it's nothing but a business these days and greed and money and oh I hate it but please please please for the love of god can we sneak into the richest competition in world football so we can have loads more money than the other teams below us and invest in fees and wages and fees and wages and have loads of fu cking money oh I wish we had loads more fuc king money.

Probably all horse s**t on my part but I reckon Arsenal will win the PL and we will finish disappointingly in the lower half - not in a relegation fight (at least hope not)! Think we overachieved last season, and have lost more quality than we have added (so far), and we are in more competitions this year. Not too worried about our squad, but rather our ability to cope with the Thurs / Sunday combination.

Will be more than delighted to be proven wrong however!

  • 9 months later...
Just come in from the garden on this beautiful August day and saw this thread. Now, my prediction for the coming season, and don't shoot me for it, is that Leicester will do really well this season. Great little manager and strong at the back. I reckon top four minimum, maybe even a title shot. Just a hunch.

Now, I am just going to eat an ice cream what with it being August. Does anyone think David Bowie is looking ill recently?

Blimey. Forgotten I'd posted this. Not bad.
