bjk Posted 31 July, 2015 Share Posted 31 July, 2015 Need to settle an argument. Who was the first player Saints ever signed for £1m. Thanks.
Pancake Posted 31 July, 2015 Share Posted 31 July, 2015 You need Duncan here. Or MLG for some Duncan-lite-but-with-overly-aggressive-nerdish-put-downs if FF isn't about.

Secret Site Agent Posted 31 July, 2015 Share Posted 31 July, 2015 I don't know if it was big Al McLoughlin but my gut instinct is it might have been Alan McLoughlin. I would take a wild guess and say McLoughlin, Alan
PaulSaint Posted 31 July, 2015 Share Posted 31 July, 2015 I seem to remember Horne signing for £400k. Worth it just for "that" cup goal?
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 31 July, 2015 Share Posted 31 July, 2015 I seem to remember Horne signing for £400k. Worth it just for "that" cup goal? Thought Barry was our record signing for a while at £700k taking the title from Dave Armstrong at £600k, a few years before. Has anyone mentioned Alan McLoughlin was our first million pound signing though?
The Saint Posted 31 July, 2015 Share Posted 31 July, 2015 Both were ok, but not outstanding if I remember.

Sergei Gotsmanov Posted 31 July, 2015 Share Posted 31 July, 2015 Technically did we sign AM for £1m but only paid £750 because he did not play thirty games? Fuzzy memory but did Branfoot not play him because he would have played his thirtieth game and we would be subject to the remainder of the transfer fee. I am probably wrong! bender Posted 31 July, 2015 Share Posted 31 July, 2015 Mcloughlin it definitely was in the 89/90 season. Mcloughlin had played against the Saints earlier that season in a 4th round tie in the Rumbelows cup. Saints trailed 2 nil at half time in that game but Horne it was who got one back at the beginning of the 2nd half. Paul Rideout netted our equaliser 5 mins from the end and Le Tissier took over in extra time. Saints lost out in the next round to the cheating plastic pitchians Oldham Athletic and many years later McLoughlin dropped down a division to play for the Skates.
