All things Labour Party

CHAPEL END CHARLIE

Recommended Posts

I speak as a Conservative voter espousing the merits of a potential Labour Leader who might give us a better fight leading HM's Opposition, Gavyn. God knows whose views you represent from your London-centric ivory tower but just as a matter of interest, who would you choose?

Starmer - not sure he’s the long-term answer (ideologically he’s a black box and a bit dour/bloodless to the extent it matters to the electorate) but he would provide needed competence and credibility in the short-term.

Sir Keir Smarmy? You don't get it that failing to deliver Brexit wrecked Labour's chances any more than most of the Labour Party don't get it, and Starmer as Shadow Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union had his fingerprints all over the knife that dealt the fatal wound to the Labour Party.

Sometimes you crack me up, Gavyn, as does your old mate Adonis

People in decades, maybe centuries to come will look at the debate in the House of Commons today as they look at the debate on the Munich Agreement and marvel at our national folly

Not sure a foaming-at-the-mouth, one-track mind swivel like you is a good barometer of the national mood and why Labour lost, Les. But I'll keep your views in mind pal (like I do a jehovah's witness knocking on my door at dinner time)

His bullsh1t about maggots in OJ and rat hair in paprika was embarrassing. Even more telling was the chorus of approximately 5 half-hearted cheers when he finished his speech. The rest of the commons found that very amusing.

He needs to go now.

He needed to go years ago.

Full insult mood again, Gavyn. Well done. I know I've hit the mark when you go off on one like that. Not only did Labour lose, but you did too, and your little chum Adonis, losers all, lashing out like wounded beasts. What sport you all provide post election, Gavyn.

Yep, you and Gavyn sure are bad losers. As if you wouldn't have been rubbing it in big time if your lot had won the election. Hypocrite.

Lol. How do you know? That is just your projection as it is what you do. If I had been on the winning side I would have been quietly relieved and got on with life. This isn’t a game. This is about our future and our children’s future. My children all want to remain in the EU. They are gutted over the result and they are gutted that we will 5 more years of Johnson. Still, so long as you are happy...

are you not delighted that Labour/Corbyn actually 'won the argument'?

Can you really be a winner if you subtly change someones name to a 'comic' version like Lib Dumbs, Kier Smarmy only losers like Les Bender does this.

 I guess not. Just read a report about the doorstep abuse that candidates of all parties have received in this election. Aren’t we supposed to be a tolerant country. Seems that we are getting nastier by the day. Did you see Johnson yesterday? When caught out looking at his phone his reply was well say something interesting. Little wonder that basic decency goes out of the window when you have people like him and Trump behaving the way they do. Wes seems to be taking his lead from Boris.

And not a dicky bird about the insults bandied about by the likes of Gavyn. The hypocrisy and cant from certain posters on here is breathtaking.

If you get grief from one poster and want to give it back that is your choice. It doesn’t give you the right to hurl childish insults to everyone else who doesn’t agree to you. It is not hypocrisy and cant. If you behave like an arse you have to expect to get called on it.

That is literally the description of Shurlock when he is frequently 'found out'.

I'm sure you'll be happy to call him out on his childish name calling to show you aren't a hypocrite.

Oh you mean like how you throw around terms like far right at anyone who disagrees with your mad opinions?

I have called him out when he has had a pop at me, which he has done on a number of occasions. I am sure you and Wes are old enough to fight your own battles.

The electorate will never go for the left-wing government that Corbyn, McDonnell Red Len want. They have to become more moderate and move to the middle-ground. A leadership that includes Dan Jarvis and Stephen Kinnock would be a start.

Sadly, the left and the communists and marxists in Momentum won't let that happen.

This country doesn't generally do extreme governments. I asked a Labour supporting friend of mine when was the last time we had a real "Socialist" government and he said Clem Attlee's 1945 onwards lot. Completely dismissed the Blair/Wilson/Callaghan years. On the Right, Moseley's Black shirts were given short shrift.

You can’t call someone a hypocrite based on an assumption.

Magnanimity is so much more attractive than gloating, even when you can’t muster sincerity. Your hero Boris understands this, why hasn’t it filtered down to you, I wonder?

Tbf it would help if Corbynistas accepted some of the reasons for their losses. Many of them are still in denial about it now.

The term “far right” is hardly a childish insult and is used universally to describe the politics of people of that persuasion like Tommy Robinson and Katie Hopkins. You will find the term “far right” used by all of the major news agencies. I have yet to see the term LibDums used by anyone other than our resident Tory.

It's a pathetic lie when applied to people on here that you've used as an unsuccessful attempt to smear posters and discredit their valid opinions. It's actually worse than a childish insult because you're serious about it.

Perhaps you should give up the tedious stalking. If only for Christmas. You have a problem with people who support socialism. I have a problem of people who are supportive of the far right and racism. Let’s just agree to differ and leave it there.
What I will say is outside your posts I've never seen Tommy Robinson and Katie Hopkins names mentioned so much. I barely knew who Katie Hopkins was until you started going on about her. If I cared to look you must have mentioned her dozens of times in the past couple of years. Seems you're the one with the far right fixation.

It’s a pretty lacklustre field of candidates so far. Even the best, Keith Starmer is just ‘okay’. Would make a good minister but doesn’t have the presence to be an inspiring leader.
I'm not sure why there's a pretence of a contest. No one moderate is going to get in, Rebecca long Bailey has it sewn up already.

Moi? The one who is a member of the party with a thumping majority in the General Election? The more that you talk about far right in connection with the Conservative Party, the more far left you appear, Soggy. Of course the leftie news agencies like to demonise the Conservative Party as having moved to the right. Now all they have to do, and you, is accept that the electorate preferred that to the alternative.

You don’t had to be a “Lefty” to hate everything the Tories stand for and have done in the last 9 years Wes. I will give my vote to anyone prepared to reverse the policies of austerity and who is prepared to work for a fairer society.

Sorry but labour's "vision" has been resoundingly rejected. Soundly defeated by an electorate that hated what he was selling.

Voting for a party and being a so called “Lefty” can be two very different things.

We ought to remember also that 55% of the country voted against the Tory policies. As we are told time and again by the 52% of Brexiters, democratically, you lost. Johnson also fared little better than May’s last vote, so hardly a ringing endorsement there.

We are stuck with the arcane and unrespresentative first passed the post system, but let’s not pretend that everyone is behind Johnson. Yes he would still have won with PR, but there would have been no “landslide.”

Please, please, please let the Labour Party choose David Lammy. :D

hilarious.

I wonder what makes him think he can save the Labour Party? clearly, he is miles from what they need

Would be funny though...but as someone else has posted, pointless anyone else going for it as Corbyn and McDonnell are clearly staying on to ensure RLB gets the job..

We will then have 4+ years of Johnson/Tory's being called sexist when they shred her to bits at PMQs

But if you vote Conservative you're right wing?

Nice to see you're still comparing the binary choice of the referendum with the multitude of choices at the GE to try and prove your (non) point.

Using that logic, which government in British history has won with over 50% of the vote?

It depends on your views. I would say you and a few other posters here are right wing, wouldn’t you. Some may have voted against Labour because of Corbyn, but there are a few of you that are hard core Tories.

And yet not do long ago, if you had come on here and said that Trump would become POTUS and Johnson PM you would have been roundly laughed at.

Roundly laughed at by who? Johnson was always going to be PM at some point.

Pony. Most thought he had blown his chances in 2016 after Gove stabbed him in the back. Had May not called a GE in 2017 and/or not proceeded to run a terrible campaign, blowing a historic lead, she would have had the numbers to get her withdrawal agreement over the line and Johnson would have been history.

Alternatively she could have crossed her own redlines -like Johnson shamelessly has done- and put a regulatory and customs border in the Irish numbers, likely securing the support of the ERG. Or she could have worked with Parliament from the outset and secured cross-party support for a deal. In any of these circumstances, the case for Johnson would have been much weaker.
