I don't know if I should be posting this as a separate thread, nor how reliable this is... nor do I understand why he has not posted this himself as I believe he is a regular poster on this forum(!!).. but I see that Connor Armstrong is reporting that we are in discussions with Atletico Madrid about the possibility of signing Mario Suarez: https://twitter.com/ConnorArmstrong/status/621086005232304128

I also see that this has also been reported on some dodgy looking rumour sites in Spain. For example, this one: http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=es&u=http://www.todomercadoweb.es/primer-plano/atletico-mario-suarez-cerca-del-southampton-133693&prev=search

Anyway, I thought I'd post it anyway. I will let Connor tell us more if there is any more to be known! :)

As I tweeted, it's being reported in Italy and Spain - by MediaSet, TuttoMercato and Sky Italia's chief reporter, Gianluca Di Marzio. Saw it flash up on the actual websites, but didn't see it tweeted by them at the time, so flagged the reports up.

I can't claim to know anything about this deal, although it seems pretty exciting on the face of it.

Dare I say, too late. Your pleas will fall on deaf ears. The dogs of war on here have been unleashed and smell blood.

I eagerly await the arrival. They haven't legalised that hunting thing with the pack of dogs and men on horses yet, have they? :scared:

As mouth watering as a midfield three of Wanyama, Clasie and Suarez sounds I can't see this one being a starter. Juanmi following him IMO is nothing but a coincidence and according to TMR his wage is around £55k a week. Even if we were to chase Suarez the media exposure on the deal would only end up with a champions league club swooping in and taking any deal to us off the cards. I'd love to be proven wrong though. :)

"Connor Armstrong is reporting"

I think you mean Connor Armstrong tweeted something he read elsewhere on Twitter.

Which, to be fair and pedantic in one, is almost the dictionary definition of "report".

By the sounds of it everything re Toby deal ended up very amicable between us and Atletico.

They will take our millions if a deal is on don't worry about that.

It was reported the the Toby situation was a smokescreen for Spurs wanting Suarez, perhaps it was also our smokescreen?

I like the conspiracy theory. Maybe, spurs actually signed suarez, and alderweireld is still at madrid?

Or maybe Athleti don't fancy paying the compensation they owe us, and would rather give us a player at a discount

From what I read Les had not problems with Athletico and it is only when the player himself decided to join Spurs instead that we had problems. He was very complimentary about them.

I read on one of the Spurs sites that he has a buyout clause of around £8m. I don't think the club are adverse to bringing in a blend of players, some of whom will not have a great resale value.

It's about getting the right player in the building at the right time for the right price... Correct?

That would a bargain!

Agreement with @acffiorentina for the transfer of @MarioSuarez4: http://ow.ly/PWCUn

^ Officially write him off the list.

Would have been great next to big Vic! Hope we get another big mid player as if Vic gets injured we will have a very lightweight midfield to say the least!
