simo Posted 11 July, 2015 Posted 11 July, 2015 Lot of talk of Koeman seeing out his contract, should we be trying to tie him down to a new improved and longer term contract!?
pluto Posted 11 July, 2015 Posted 11 July, 2015 I would be surprised if he stayed any longer than his contract of 3 seasons. I imagine the two factors that would be in the mix on that front are the Barca and dutch jobs being available. Holland would be already in WC qualifiers in 2017, so it slightly shifts towards Barcelona and wether Enrique stays around. I think to improve chances of him staying longer we cant afford to lose anymore top players before the 16/17 season.

Think he is an honourable guy and will see out three years, but I don't expect more given the average tenure of a PL manager. Like Swansea, the structure of our club is built to cope when he leaves and the continuity of backroom staff and our football philosophy is what ultimately provides the stability. I think Eddie Howe will be our next manager personally.
Saint Charlie Posted 11 July, 2015 Posted 11 July, 2015 If he stays all three years then I reckon thats a great result for us, and would imagine then he would be keen to manage a top side once it expires.
Miltonaggro Posted 11 July, 2015 Posted 11 July, 2015 I think Koeman is a decent guy who will see out his Saints deal and move on. Seems well suited to the Prem, and would not be surprised to see him stay in England and manage the likes of Liverpool or Spurs.
Batman Posted 11 July, 2015 Posted 11 July, 2015 Probably go to Liverpool when Rogers is given the shove
simo Posted 11 July, 2015 Author Posted 11 July, 2015 I'd still like to see him at least offered a new contract, Let's him know he's valued, shows that "Ambition" we all crave and also if a big club does want him we won't be seeing him walk away for free ! People were moaning about us letting our players run their contracts down but seem consigned to let it happen with one of the best managers we've had?
Puddings and Monkeys Posted 11 July, 2015 Posted 11 July, 2015 Why are we "consigned" to do it again?

Not a cat in hell's chance of Ron extending his contract IMHO He won't want to stay at a mediocre mid table Prem team, only geared to being a Feeder Club to the Big Boys. SFC has very limited AMBITION, or can't anyone see that yet ?

Perhaps it would be better to see how we get on this coming season before we try to extend his contract. Giving him an extra year or years before we know how he will cope with second season syndrome would be foolish. In any case, a PL manager lasting 3 seasons is almost unheard of unless its Mr Grumpy Wenger.
Graffito Posted 11 July, 2015 Posted 11 July, 2015 Two things: 1. Koeman is an "honourable guy" if he were to see out his contract yet we complain about players doing the same. 2. Ferguson once let it be known that he was retiring and performances suffered. This will be a difficult one for the club to manage.
Guan 2.0 Posted 11 July, 2015 Posted 11 July, 2015 Too late. He just realised that pre-season is the be all and end all of football, and decided to quit after the final whistle. The club were hopeful of keeping him, but it turned out that RK was just stringing along Les Reed during the twelve seconds of Injury time.

ART Posted 11 July, 2015 Posted 11 July, 2015 When has Koeman ever stayed beyond 3 years? He's in the process of using our club and handing out favors to second rate Dutch players and old cronies. This is not a manager like Pochettino who's building for the future. If we sign the likes of Vaar I know which team I'll be supporting this season. Same old Pelle and Tadic and I won't be sitting around while Koeman keeps playing them both the entire season.

Yeah, building so much for the future that he was checking out other clubs in his last 6 months. If that isn't building for the future, I don't know what is. Enjoy supporting Arsenal/Man Utd next season, they're welcome to your looney tunes rants.

Fan The Flames Posted 11 July, 2015 Posted 11 July, 2015 So not nailing down RK is the new stick to beat the club with, what is wrong with you guys.

To be fair, if the club announced a one year extension of his contract, it would be a disaster because we are on the hook for way too much additional money if it doesn't work out or because it is too short an extension. I have no idea which way it would go.

I agree about the emphasis on Barcelona but if this does not appear likely to be availavble in 2017 then I suspect he might extend to 2018 as there is always a major managerial shuffle after the World Cup. You never know people might even be clamouring for him to weplace Woy, if he lasts that long (not that I expect RK to be interested in the job).

norwaysaint Posted 12 July, 2015 Posted 12 July, 2015 Is it right that, if Koeman finishes this season with us, he'll be the first saints manager to complete two seasons with us since Dave Jones?

Andy Durman Posted 12 July, 2015 Posted 12 July, 2015 So Koeman gets all his players into Southampton and then leaves them. Somehow I don't think he's like that.
