Batman Posted 29 July, 2015 Posted 29 July, 2015 Lyth is an odd one. Why keep playing shots like that when there is no need? 50-odd runs in 5 innings for him in this ashes series shyte
Wade Garrett Posted 29 July, 2015 Posted 29 July, 2015 (edited) Ian Bell back in business! ? Well done! Lyth is garbage. Edited 29 July, 2015 by Wade Garrett Average spelling of names
dinger Posted 29 July, 2015 Posted 29 July, 2015 50-odd runs in 5 innings for him in this ashes series shyte He keeps going fishing for that same ball, doesn't he? I personally think he's got the talent, but I don't know how much patience the selectors will (or should) show. I'd give him the next test as I don't really know who you bring in fresh to open for England at the business end of an Ashes series, but he's a weak link atm, no question.
St Lej Posted 29 July, 2015 Posted 29 July, 2015 Lyth is an odd one. Why keep playing shots like that when there is no need? He is blatantly out of his depth. You can tell when a player is genuinely at a test level ability but is struggling (Ballance, Bell), compared to simply not at the level required (Lyth). He's 27 already and his FC average is a relatively modest 42, which dozens of players who have never been selected for their country achieve. Ballance was dropped after making scores of 61,0,23,14.....way more runs than Lyth has made so far. I guess we are just short of quality openers to replace him at the moment.
angelman Posted 30 July, 2015 Posted 30 July, 2015 well, we seem not to be pressing home our advantage this morning!!! Root gone now!
Toomer Posted 30 July, 2015 Posted 30 July, 2015 This could be a three day test as this rate it will be all over by tea tomorrow.
Hatch Posted 30 July, 2015 Posted 30 July, 2015 This could be a three day test as this rate it will be all over by tea tomorrow. could be over tonight! Bad luck for those with day 3 tickets
sadoldgit Posted 31 July, 2015 Posted 31 July, 2015 Brilliant come back after the horrible game at Lords. Onwards and upwards!!!
St Jim Posted 1 August, 2015 Posted 1 August, 2015 I'm going to enjoy heading into work on Monday. Will have to perfect my smug face. Bell rode his luck with being dropped by Clarke and Lyth just doesn't look up to it (not sure who's best placed to push Lyth for an opening spot. Personally I'd like to see Carberry). Will be interesting to see who they replace Anderson with. Surely they'll have to replace like for like, a tidy tight bowler with the ability to swing the ball both ways. I've heard about Craig Overton, can anyone tell me if he's a good prospect?
angelman Posted 6 August, 2015 Posted 6 August, 2015 Clarke, lucky to still be there, isn't looking confident (so I guess he'll make a century).
sadoldgit Posted 6 August, 2015 Posted 6 August, 2015 At this rate we will be batting before lunch!!!
trousers Posted 6 August, 2015 Posted 6 August, 2015 Test match records being broken left right and centre
Lighthouse Posted 6 August, 2015 Posted 6 August, 2015 I've lost 5 a side games by similar score lines.
Pancake Posted 6 August, 2015 Posted 6 August, 2015 Reckon Johnson will be their top scorer. Or "Extras". [emoji23]
angelman Posted 6 August, 2015 Posted 6 August, 2015 Or "Extras". [emoji23] LOL - you may be right. Extras are currently 13 so in the lead.
angelman Posted 6 August, 2015 Posted 6 August, 2015 Am I really listening to this happening now? Surreal Yup - can't believe that we haven't had a wicket in 3 overs. Bizarre.
Whitey Grandad Posted 6 August, 2015 Posted 6 August, 2015 From the BBC: In the crowd, an Australia fan sits with his head on his hand. "I saved for years for this. The trip of a lifetime, hoping to see us win the Ashes in England for the first time in 14 years. They can't even bat until lunch."
Pancake Posted 6 August, 2015 Posted 6 August, 2015 Or "Extras". [emoji23] Called it. Extras with 14 is Australia's top scorer in an Ashes first innings. Wow.
Jimmy_D Posted 6 August, 2015 Posted 6 August, 2015 Every ball of the Aussie innings (and a description) fits into one tweet
sadoldgit Posted 6 August, 2015 Posted 6 August, 2015 Now we just have to make sure that we bat well...
saint_jas Posted 6 August, 2015 Posted 6 August, 2015 Hope we now bat well, really want to be at Trent Bridge on Saturday to see some cricket.
Batman Posted 6 August, 2015 Posted 6 August, 2015 Oh Lyth. Can't see him playing in the 5th Test. has been awful this series
Pancake Posted 6 August, 2015 Posted 6 August, 2015 has been awful this series Hopefully we won't need him in the 5th so we can try out someone else.
