jawillwill Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 Does Alpine think we've blown it yet? FWIW I think we'll lose the series 3-1, but it might be quite entertaining.
hans gruber Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 3-0 Australia Rain to save England in two tests. Aussies batting is still a little brittle imo, and ALOT will depend on how Starc bowls. If Starc brings his A game, it will be no contest. Rate the non Englishman Stoke, and Root will have to bet very well. Captain Cook seems to have recaptured some form so who knows but imo Broad, Finn and Anderson will have to bowl very very well... Bell also seems to have been around since the 90's but still quality (mostly) and will need to bat well. Hopefully the Aussies dont play Siddle ... EVER. I hope this thread dosnt come back to haunt me... Go Aussies!
Hatch Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 3-1 Aussie win. Starc to take a hatfull of wickets. At least one Englander ( maybe Bell) to retire mid series. Michael Clarke to score a triple hundred
Sour Mash Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 Think we'll just lose the series, but it'll be bloody tight, hard fought contest. Can't wait.
Sour Mash Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 Pretty balanced day all told. I'd probably back a draw in this test now. What a player Joe Root is though.
Ex Lion Tamer Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 Pretty balanced day all told. I'd probably back a draw in this test now. What a player Joe Root is though. Given the variable bounce we've already seen on day one, this pitch will be tough to bat on in the fourth innings. Australia need to score big tomorrow and Friday to make the draw a possibility

Australia need to score big tomorrow and Friday to make the draw a possibility I didn't think we saw too much variable bounce. The Aussie attack couldn't get a huge amount of life out of the pitch and they're no mugs. I'd be very surprised to see us take 20 wickets on that pitch in quick time, but we'll have to wait and see.
holepuncture Posted 10 July, 2015 Posted 10 July, 2015 Nice to see a big Saints/England flag being prominently displayed behind the Australian bowling on SkySportsAshes The crest, 'Pride of Hampshire' & 'R&B' in the flag

the_emu Posted 11 July, 2015 Posted 11 July, 2015 If we survive the new ball in the morning session then you could be in trouble
hans gruber Posted 11 July, 2015 Posted 11 July, 2015 Well well well. Us Aussies bowled poorly, fielded poorly and batted poorly. Too cocky maybe. Anderson sure knows how to use that duke ball too. All the England bowlers looked good in fact. Any chance of 2 days rain starting in 10 minutes?
St Jim Posted 15 July, 2015 Posted 15 July, 2015 More Shane Watson p155takes (please Australia, don't drop him!!!) Wich I'd seen this one before the first test....... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5CvNwrhsbc
JoeShmoe Posted 16 July, 2015 Posted 16 July, 2015 Score looks like what the hants oppo usually get! In all seriousness this is a shocking pitch , turgid , my mum could get 50 on it with a stick of rhubarb :-)

Lets B Avenue Posted 16 July, 2015 Posted 16 July, 2015 But watch our batting collapse tomorrow. It will have cost me £100 for the privilege.
sadoldgit Posted 17 July, 2015 Posted 17 July, 2015 It will have cost me £100 for the privilege. Eek!! They will surely declare this afternoon don't you think? At 500 maybe?
simo Posted 17 July, 2015 Posted 17 July, 2015 Well I think the best we can hope for is to bat this out for a draw!
Pancake Posted 17 July, 2015 Posted 17 July, 2015 What an utter shambles. We should really be testing their bowlers better than that. Bell and Root need to watch their dismissals over and over.
simo Posted 17 July, 2015 Posted 17 July, 2015 Be lucky if it's not an innings defeat here our record at Lords against the Aussies is pants!
Lets B Avenue Posted 18 July, 2015 Posted 18 July, 2015 It will have cost me £100 for the privilege. I lied. It was £110. Great day though. Belch!!
OldNick Posted 19 July, 2015 Posted 19 July, 2015 What a bunch of fools. I can't imagine that the Aussies would prepare any pitches that would help the opposition.
badgerx16 Posted 19 July, 2015 Posted 19 July, 2015 What a bunch of fools. I can't imagine that the Aussies would prepare any pitches that would help the opposition. I don't think they did, I think they took a defensive position in relation to the series, and asked for a 'dead' pitch. Unfortunately the side batting first would always have the advantage on that sort of surface, and the Aussies were always going to improve on Cardiff. Once they had blown the England bowlers away on the first day it became 'headology', and the England side have reverted to type.

Having a pitch that nullifies our bowlers but help their faster bowlers is madness. Depressing to see us not standing up to them and now we look a sad bunch. I can't see us getting our confidence back and the Aussies who were down are now full of confidence for the next test
Batman Posted 19 July, 2015 Posted 19 July, 2015 now you watch KP smash a huge score where ever he is for all the fuss to start again
badgerx16 Posted 19 July, 2015 Posted 19 July, 2015 Having a pitch that nullifies our bowlers but help their faster bowlers is madness. All the experts are saying the pich has absolutely 'no pace'.
hans gruber Posted 19 July, 2015 Posted 19 July, 2015 All the experts are saying the pich has absolutely 'no pace'. Johnson looked very quick that second innings. Stokes FFs needs his arse kicked but it made no difference. Lythe. Lol rubbish. Ballance. Looks like he doesn't know which end of the bat to hold. You boys need to replace him. What's trott doing? Lol
Ex Lion Tamer Posted 19 July, 2015 Posted 19 July, 2015 Really hard to know what to do from here. Bairstow and Rashid could come in for two of Lyth, Ballance and Bell, but they're not really like for like replacements - we'd lack 'grinders'. Best I can come up with is Rashid in for Lyth to improve our bowling and to some degree the batting, Moeen opens with Cook, and Root takes over at number three to allow Ballance to drop down the order. In reality they will probably go for Bairstow as it's the more conventional choice

Leicestersaint Posted 19 July, 2015 Posted 19 July, 2015 I don't think Bell justifies his selection at present - watching him today was painful - he would have done better to try to get some runs.
sadoldgit Posted 21 July, 2015 Posted 21 July, 2015 The Aussies get into the players minds and out psyche them. We have to be mentally stronger but I cant see that happening anytime soon after the Lords debacle.
Ex Lion Tamer Posted 21 July, 2015 Posted 21 July, 2015 (edited) We're never that good at Lords. We'll come back stronger in the next one Edited 21 July, 2015 by Ex Lion Tamer
dinger Posted 29 July, 2015 Posted 29 July, 2015 We're never that good at Lords. We'll come back stronger in the next one Great start this morning. I didn't think we'd see Finn at this level again. Just a shame the rain came when it did, while they were rocking.
dinger Posted 29 July, 2015 Posted 29 July, 2015 Fair to say this has been England's day! Unbe-ruddy-lievable.
Toomer Posted 29 July, 2015 Posted 29 July, 2015 The crims 136 all out, Lyth out for 10 time to find another opening batsman.
Pancake Posted 29 July, 2015 Posted 29 July, 2015 Lyth is an odd one. Why keep playing shots like that when there is no need?
