Mallagroth Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 not meaning any offense to the lad but we might as well be playing without a left back
Batman Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 although the result matters little. we were terrible defensively in the 2nd half. just terrible. outside of that Soares, Juanmi both look like good players. hard to judge but they both played well when on the pitch. Juanmi looks v. quick also. be nice when.... JWP Fonte Targett Yoshida Wanyama Davis Pelle Tadic Mane are in the mix
trousers Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 soares is quality Keep your voice down. We don't want the meltdown brigade on here realising we may have bought another gem for a third of the price we sold the player they replaced...
S-Clarke Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 Jay has looked sharp as hell. Him and Soares the stand-outs in the 2nd half.
Mallagroth Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 lovely cross Cedric, made it first under pressure, right onto his head good pace
Matthew Le God Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 soares is quality soares....excellent again So you think we'll cope without Clyne then?

Hamilton Saint Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 Good header from a cross into the box from the right.
shurlock Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 Jay has looked sharp as hell. Him and Soares the stand-outs in the 2nd half. To be fair, jrod has been pretty anonymous (as much due to our absent midfield). Two well-taken goals though.
Hamilton Saint Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 Thanks for the link. Fun to watch a game live from Austria!
Batman Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 Chances of us playing the under 21s back four in front of Kelvin in a real game are (hopefully) extremely small. I would expect bettwer organisation from the U21s really. as said, the result matters not just something that stood out like a sore thumb
Mallagroth Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 To be fair, jrod has been pretty anonymous (as much due to our absent midfield). Two well-taken goals though. No supply either to be fair to him.
Hamilton Saint Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 Two good goals from Rodriguez. That's encouraging.
Saint_clark Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 I would expect bettwer organisation from the U21s really. as said, the result matters not just something that stood out like a sore thumb Kids against professionals, doesn't always work.
Verbal Kint Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 Was Jay playing as the central striker? I'm interested in how RK plans to use him this season
Batman Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 Kids against professionals, doesn't always work. are our players not professionals? someone posted up the ages of their side. not a great deal difference.
alpine_saint Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 morgan just walked across the pitch checking his phone every 2 seconds..
Mallagroth Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 Was Jay playing as the central striker? I'm interested in how RK plans to use him this season He was playing left
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 Hard to really to take too much from that game, but for what it is worth: 1. Great to see Jay Rod back 2. Soares looks like a really nice player 3. I'd back Stevie Wonder to successfully navigate an oil tanker through our defence
DuncanRG Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 Jay looks like he's put on a lot of bulk: (I hope it's bulk...)
Sour Mash Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 To be fair, jrod has been pretty anonymous - two well-taken goals though. That's what I thought, he hardly touched the ball. Good for him to get the run out though. And to be fair we hardly got on the ball and created much in the 2nd half, midfield were overrun. Thought Juanmi and Soares both looked good, positive there.
SuperSAINT Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 Left work when it was half-time at 1-1. Just got home and checked score (!)
Saint_Ash Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 That's what I thought, he hardly touched the ball. Good for him to get the run out though. And to be fair we hardly got on the ball and created much in the 2nd half, midfield were overrun. Thought Juanmi and Soares both looked good, positive there. Which is great news as I would expect them to be straight into the starting eleven. It's all about match fitness for Jrod so a decent run about with a couple of goals for confidence.
stevegrant Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 Gloriously mental second half, mainly thanks to us not being able to defend. Presumably we'll see more of the senior defenders on Saturday in Salzburg. Some obvious positives, Juanmi, Rodriguez and Soares. With all these diminutive midfielders we've got, we need to go into every game with a bit of steel, really, as we got bullied at times there. There was also a noticeable difference in terms of the confidence to play a passing game in those conditions, RBL showed no difference in attitude than you would expect from them in good conditions, whereas we didn't look confident taking a touch in tight areas, instead resorting to going a bit too long.

Interesting point re the size of the midfielders, especially as we may replace Morgan with Clasie who is also tiny. With powderpuff JWP and Davis who is relatively lightweight it does make me wonder if Clasie might be a great player but maybe not at this moment for us and perhaps we need more of a physical presence to replace Morgan?

buctootim Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 Aside from defenders, so many of the Academy lads are tiny. I guess thats one of the downsides of taking them from aged 8 - little idea of physical size at 18.
Window Cleaner Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 I guess thats one of the downsides of taking them from aged 8 - little idea of physical size at 18. Perhaps we need to ramp up the raw meat rations at the Academy refectory. Oh and stop cutting the crusts off of the sandwiches.
trousers Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 morgan just walked across the pitch checking his phone every 2 seconds.. Checking for over reactions on the Saints Web Forum I would guess
Window Cleaner Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 Checking for over reactions on the Saints Web Forum I would guess Poor bloke probably has the IATA timetable from Austria and surrounding places to North West England memorised.

Window Cleaner Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 How is players growing curly hair going to help matters? Well it worked for Fellaini. Big and curly haired.
mcjwills Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 To be fair, jrod has been pretty anonymous (as much due to our absent midfield). Two well-taken goals though. He can be down the pub with a couple of pints smoking a pack of 20 if he gets 2 goals a game as far as I am concerned.
suewhistle Posted 8 July, 2015 Posted 8 July, 2015 A useful exercise and learning experience, and a difficult first game against a team 2 weeks ahead of us in their preparation: we normally start off with pretty minor teams as our warm up games. The midfield did look lightweight in a physical sense although McQueen looks solid enough. Good to see J-Rod scoring, particularly the movement for the second. Defensively the lack of experience showed, and nobody really took control. Plenty of material for the video analysts..
