Indeed. I'm just mildly surprised he isn't being given maximum opportunity to forge as much 'match-play' rapport with the defence as possible. Just an observation.

When the defence he'd be playing behind isn't the defence he'll be playing behind, there's not much point to that, is there?

Saints media team on commentary say its Ward-Prowse, S.Davis, Rodriguez as the three behind Pelle in a 4-2-3-1.

They've said numerous times Reed and Clasie are sitting. I'm surprised you haven't started telling everyone it's a 4-3-3 to be honest. :)

...especially when they've got nothing to do.

I am amused by the "Post Quick Reply" button now, given the opposition. :D

Loving the attacking play. But aside from a fitness tick-over is there any point in playing Quick 20? Surely a more taxing (but not too tough) opponent would be better.

Cedric looks absolutely brilliant

I think I'd fancy my chances with the opposition defence.

He's been great since the first second he stepped onto a pitch for us. Great signing already, will be interesting to see how he copes in competitive matches and with the Prem.

We ARE playing Feyenoord in 2 days, you know. Mix and match opposition standard pre-season to get fitness up.

So far he looks a massive upgrade on clyne attacking wise (I thought clyne was fairly poor at crossing and passing), but he hasn't been tested defensively so he could be utter crap compare to clyne in that side of it.

Well, yes. :p. But still feel that it would be better to have a more taxing warm up, avoid any false confidence.

He looked sound defensively against Red Bull Salzburg when the rest of the back 4 weren't impressive. If you thought Clyne's crossing and passing was poor, I'm not sure why you think Cedric's is good, they're about the same - which is fine. :)

Don't think of it as an easy game. More of a tough training session ahead of the Feyenoord game.

Again, Feyenoord on Thursday. Not to mention already having done 45 against Valencia and RB Salzburg and 90 against Groningen.

The only thing I'll be complaining about is us putting anything other than a reserve team out against Espanyol!

That's a fair point sir. I still reserve the right to be slightly surprised that our first choice keeper does get a single minute of play in two consecutive preseason friendlies. Different opinions are available :)

i won't get too over excited as its a pub team level of opposition, but I can't wait to see Pelle and Jay Rod line up side by side next season if this games anything to go by.

Although the scoreline would indicate it's a stroll in the park, the players are all working very hard, lots of good closing down and running into space off the ball.

This after a full training session this morning as well.

Having those two, Mané and a fully fit Tadic all in the same team would be quite something. I'm quite excited to see Clasie, Soares and Juanmi next Thursday too.

Your the guy with the stats at the moment so correct me if I'm wrong but, from what I've seen of clyne (as a ST holder) his crossing is pretty poor with most of them drilled in low. Can't remember seeing many head height whipped in crosses in my opinion Cedric looks a lot better at crossing than clyne did.

They have a different style of attacking play - Cedric seems to get forward on the overlap a lot more whereas Clyne preferred to cross from a deeper position. A cross whipped in at speed from the byline often looks a lot more dangerous than it actually is, equally crosses lumped in from deeper areas can look quite tame when they're actually pretty dangerous so it can be deceptive!

Overall i've been impressed with what i've seen from Cedric so far though, if he replaces Clyney as seamlessly as he appears to be doing at this very early stage then full credit has to go to the scouting staff! Commentators on the stream earlier were saying how long we've been watching him for and how we knew he'd fit into the team so all that talk about getting the right characters in seems to have some credence to it..
