Right/centre back.

Koeman used that to justify the signing.

Maybe he can play left back as well, I've never seen him play.

I would assume the new guy would be cb cover freeing up Yoshida to cover Targett at RB

I wouldn't have thought so. He'll just add depth to the full back positions.

Would imagine it will be Targett at LB, and Cedric at RB.

so,

Fortser

Bertrand

Clyne

Toby

Morgan

not in the team

that is too big a miss for a club like us not to have a negative impact

Which was used to justify the need to sign this backup defender from Twente.

The video is five years old (so when he was 20 years old and under), but he is used as a left back in this...

You are a cheery soul arent you ?

One of those have already been replaced and we have bought in cover for two of them.

It was made quite clear from RK that the "Toby and Morgan situations" will decide our other transfer targets.

Great opportunity for Targett

Certainly is. Not 100% convinced by him though I don't feel anywhere near as confident as when Shaw was playing. Might be something to do with the fact he looks like a 13 year old adolescent.

Luckily we have a fairly kind looking start to the season, so Bertrand's replacement shouldn't get exposed (touch wood) too much.

Had surgery in both knees this summer, will be out for the next 5/6 weeks.

Almost certain to miss the start of the season.

1) How do you know and

2) Why has he needed surgery on both knees?

Koeman said in his presser, your username does you justice.

Psh, not sure I wouldn't rather have a tough start to the season with games we were going to lose anyway. Having a bad start to the season despite a relatively easy run of fixtures is what will put us in trouble.

momentum is a huge thing. would rather NOT be playing catch up after 6 games like we were a few years back

OUCH......a bit out of the blue, but with all the other transfer gossip - this seems to have slipped under the radar.

If ever Matt Targett needed a reason to perform, now he has the chance. We can't continue to see him just as " a former Academy lad made good ".

He has a long term pro. contract and despite the difference in age / experience (with Bertrand) now is his chance to show what he is capable of.

Koeman has said we need two players to cover each position, and Mattie's time has come.

I'm at work so I haven't been able to watch the presser.

I wasn't disbelieving him necessarily, I just wondered what his source was.

Excellent news. Anyone remember what his original projected return date was?

It was (I think) out for 4/5 weeks when it was 5 weeks till the Newcastle game.

Reckon he could be back in the side for the Norwich game

Yes, but he's changed it to him wearing a Liverpool shirt. The cheeky ****.

Chelsea shirt on twitter, Saints on instagram.

Koeman said originally that he would be back in training (starting his preseason) about the time of our first PL match, so was likely to be 2-3 weeks into the season before he was match fit, so maybe now a week or so earlier if he/we are lucky.
